Go command-line. I'm only telling you this for your own good. Ok ok, and because I'm a Unix systems engineer and that's how we do it.

NSU seems to be rife with issues. I don't know why people persist in using it.

Admittedly I did it through a Linux VM (VirtualBox) but had no real issues when using the command line flasher updating to PR1.2.

Yes, it's v2.5.2. It's just hang there whenever i opened. It says "Starting application..."

I can't update if it ain't start
I heard flashing for Wins 7 64-bit is not working. Beside, i don't want flash....flash is for people that have screwed up their device...there is nothing wrong w/ my device. It's the software that ain't loading up. Nokia sucks.

I can't get OTA even though i have 61mb of rootf (i heard people can install it even with less than 61mb, go figure!)

Re: One last time before i slam this phone with a hammer

Flasher 3.5 on a Mac from the command-line was flawless. Couldn't be easier.

Flashing is the easiest way to get what you want on your device, not just "for people that have screwed up their device". Your right Nokia should make NSU work properly, but it doesn't so use Flasher 3.5 which does work. If you do take a hammer to your N900 in a fit of pique, I hope it makes you happy blaming the phone for NSU's and the not entiely blameless Microsoft's shortcomings.

Or maybe smash the phone because the computer is not working.

[sarcasm]I know how you feel. The fuel pump wouldn't work so I smashed my car with a brick... [/sarcasm]

Seriously look at this wiki before smashing anything: http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_firmware

will it blend?

FYI Ubuntu is free and if you have professional or ultimate win 7 what's the problems with installing it?

Did you try to reinstall it?

you have compatability mode so you could revert back to xp. I run win7 64bit with no issues.

Is it complaining that you don't have enough space? There are a few rouge apps that have caused the device to not accept OTA. If you have any of them installed, try removing them first. :)

Try a search.. there are dozens of threads on fixing issues like this around PR1.2

Re: One last time before i slam this phone with a hammer

right click over the nokia software updater ...select troubleshoot compatability and change it to xp sp2

neboja 2010-05-27 19:42

Re: One last time before i slam this phone with a hammer

like i sad in a previous post: turn off ISC service! right click, and then "STOP"
and you can do another thing: make it run in some other compatibility mode (i was running my in XP+SP2) and also as ADMIN!
to these steps, and i think that you get your update ;)
cheers!

@romaniausa
When you say it fails to install the OTA update, tap the Application Manager menu and select Log.

Paste what you find there. If that's failing there's a -reason-.

Flash the device.

If you just flash the PR1.2 you wont lose your contacts, music etc. Example when i flashed yesterday to PR1.2 my gpodder app was gone like all the other applications, but when i installed the app again i had all my podcasts there and settings.

I flashed my device 3 times just yesterday. It's a different thing to flash the vanilla Maemo 5 and lose all from the device.

Ask around if you decide to go that way.

ISC service is not even running...so there is nothing to "STOP."
I run in Vista sp2 under admin...no go.
Vista sp1 no go ...did all of these last night.

I'll try XP sp2 later....when iam home. At work now.

Re: One last time before i slam this phone with a hammer

I use Win7 64-bit and had no problems with NSU.
I saw the 1.2 update in the App manager, i selected it and it prepared the installation. Then it told me to connect the phone to a PC and start the NSU. Because i didn't have it, i installed it and then connected the phone to my PC. After that the NSU downloaded the firmware and installed it. When it was done the phone restarted and i had 1.2.
No problems whatsoever. I can't believe all the problems people have been writing about over this.

My NSU is version 2.5.2en. The update only cleared the RootFS. Everything in /home and MyDocs remained intact.

Did you have Nokia Suite running too? I disable it..enable it...reinstall both all over again....enable firewall for the two .exe program that people suggest....STOP the whatever service someone suggest...run it under admin...run it under vista sp2...and it still hang. The program just won't open. It keeps saying "Starting application."

No, the only Nokia software i had installed was NSU. I don't use Nokia PC Suite cause it's useless and i transfer all files over mass storage mode. I didn't have to disable my firewall, or stop any services, or run as admin, although Windows UAC did ask me for confirmation on running NSU. Everything went fine and it took about 10 min.
Sorry i can't help you but please be gentle with the hammering :)

Do you have antiviurs or firewall enabled? also check Nokia connectivity drivers ,

Re: One last time before i slam this phone with a hammer

Romanian,

Try these in order of preference,

1. Make a new user account in Windows 7 and log into that and try running the Nokia Updater

2. If not, try it on a friends pc.

3. Use the Ubuntu FREE Live CD, instructions below.

This is a 700mb download from
http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/download

Doing this though will Flash the device.

Anyways, after you download it, burn it, and pop it into your CD drive. Boot it and use the "Try" options, this will take quite a while to load.

After that you can use the Flasher as per the instructions for ubuntu.
