i just want to know, will we expect updates for OVI Maps from Nokia or should wait PR 1.3?

PR 1.3 brings Qt Mobility. That's the only confirmed thing

just anecdotally, it seems the ovi maps is kind of separate from the maemo or even symbian stuff.

in other words, i dont think it will be necessary for a new release to get new maps. really maps is just an application.

btw, it is a good bit better now with the little turn indicators and arrows to progress through route.

Totally agree with this. It a total waste of application if we can't even do an offline search. For example, going oversea and wanted to browse for a place and you don't have the bloody internet data plan or what ever.

Having had a GPS that can't do a quick offline search is worthless. That is in my opinion.

This question needs to be answered.

Nokia promised offline voice-guided OVI maps navigation to all nokia smartphones. Free. FOREVER. post-advertising, I think nokia has confirmed that the N900 is one of the devices for this feature, and it should because of the premium price we paid for.

it's time to stop all this mystery and for nokia to tell us when we are getting free voice guided navigation.

7 months after release is NOT a reasonable time to wait for offline navigation.

Um... to be precise it is only just 6months and 15days lol. The announced date doesn't count toward this.

we talk here about Ovi Maps, that map app provided as built in with our n900 and should be full free navigation as Nokia promised, just like Ovi 3 on other nokia devices not more.

nokia doesnt promise ****. Unless they have it scheduled specifically in a release, their word means nothing.

If you expect turn by turn navigation, either BUY the sygnic software or SELL your n900 and BUY a phone that provides turn by turn.

So pay extra for turn by turn OR sell your phone and buy another.

Your choice.

Anything else is a waste of time.

NOKIA advertise ALL smartphones come with turn by turn navigation...so the N900 is not a nokia smartphone?? im confused...

Or install a free N900 application that does support it, like Mappero. Granted, I haven't actually tested/needed it yet. But I trust the word of a developer over that of a PR dude who's only paid to tell you what you want to hear.

My point is to Nokia their "word" means nothing. They advertise full flash too but now from what quole is saying flash 10.1 aint coming to the n900.

Unless the change is explicitly scheduled in a release (i.e. Qt). Assume it is NOT coming regardless of what Nokia has "promised".

As many have said here, if you are not happy with the n900 NOW, SELL it and buy another phone because you cannot assume Nokia will provide ANY future support. Their pattern of past behaviour has proved this is the case.

If I am not happy with the N900, but it is still the best device for me right now, am I allowed to keep it? And point to its flaws on these forums? And use these forums to try to improve it?

the point just about nokia support for n900, really its too weak, no basics like real map app, too long time to get few updates,

i think nokia will never get real software updates for n900, almost nokia will release new Ovi with turn by turn but for new device that's comes next the n900, maybe with meego

they in nokia play with software features (maps, mms, real 3G support ..etc) to enable - disable as a marketing strategy to release more devices and get more sales.

flash 10.1 is very important, but with nokia maybe you will need got new device to get flash 10.1 :mad:

i am not a Nokia fan or attempting to stop you expressing your opinion.

My point is dont expect support from Nokia - as pointed out by many here Nokia does NOT officially read these forums, so your attempt to make things "better" by pointing this shortcoming to Nokia falls on deaf ears.

My point is if you want to do something about this situation which you are NOT satisfied with, you only have a few options, either SELL your n900 and get something else, BUY sygnic or as another user pointed out, contribute to or use the open community substitute (which may not be in a ready state atm). Posting here to Nokia is a waste of time.

Forget Nokia Support, thats an oxy*****.

this for me is making the maps application unusable while roaming.
btw, in case you didn't know, maps transfers about 400kb when you start it (regardless of settings or a-gps)

thank you so much...for pointing that out

i lost a lot of money in roaming charges due to this stupid bug. why is maps downloading data at all if all mapdata IS already on the device ??

and who should fix that ??? Nokia ?
