N900 Location Widget
What is it?
Mine never works, always says unable to download map data. Have tried this stood out in the middle of the road on a clear day and still no joy. I am assuming correctly that it works via the GPS? |
Re: N900 Location Widget
Same for me. Anyone got any ideas?

Re: N900 Location Widget
Same here as well, that's why I don't use it...which is a shame anyway!

Re: N900 Location Widget
mine locks within seconds all thoe i use supl.google, not nokia one

Re: N900 Location Widget
I don't have a problem getting a GPS lock - just a few seconds to get good accuracy.
It's the Location Widget that doesn't work. Takes a minute (time-out I guess) to give the message 'Unable to download map data' |

Re: N900 Location Widget
Maybe I'm being dumb, but what's supl.google got to do with the widget getting map data?

Re: N900 Location Widget
i am not 100 % sure but that has something to do with location, when i was using supl.nokia , had problems also

Re: N900 Location Widget
All the supl addresses do is to store a consistently refreshed cache of the current positions of the satellites, so your phone does not need to chew through tons of calculations to determine the positions of the satellites, which makes it much more speedier.
Widget works for me, though. |

Re: N900 Location Widget
I only made a short test. Mine is working, when I have a Internet connection. I tried it in my garden, were I have been connected to the wifi at my house.
I think it is not able to work with maps, that you stored local on your N900, it wants to load always the maps from the web. So I decided this application is nice, but not useful for me. T. |
Re: N900 Location Widget
Ok, just tried it with both supl.google.com and supl.google.com:7276.
Definitely seems to lock quicker than with the Nokia server, but may have had a cached GPS location anyway. Unfortunately, doesn't make any difference to the widget. It has worked very occasionally in the past (when I first got the phone) then stopped altogether. Thought I'd try it out again after PR1.2, but no joy. |
