i understand how you feel, when basic functionality that you were probably used to on earlier phones is broken...

i have had the same feelings as you, but i keep seing light at the end of the tunel, pr 1.2 seems to have some things for me...

in particular the camera and internet radio were 2 areas which were turning me off the n900.

i would stay away from apple if i was you, android is the way to go, imo.

i personally will hold on a bit longer as there are quite of lot of projects ongoing... so we might see some interesting tools soon.

would be nice to also see android 2.2 on the n900

I aggree with you, I hate nokia in so many ways but I love it in so many ways too. I've made a complement for myself as well a 2nd hand android phone which is inferior still to the n900.

If you really are going to buy an iphone, right now would be the most stupid time to buy one. Isn't the new one coming quite soon (2-3 weeks) so you can get your 3gs even cheaper when 4g is released.

If this was a legit thread, it would have a price offering, list of accessories, where you would be willing to ship too, etc. It's obvious you had no intention of doing so and wanted to provoke a response like the many other similar threads.

i am not trying to provoke a response, i am in the uk and would be willing to trade within the uk, i would rather trade than sell but i guess i would accept about £250 for my phone. it comes with everything that was in the box as well as an aluminium pdair case an 5 spare screen protectors. i am completely serious about trading

I feel your pain man, i really do.....i went through it too.

Get a 3gs mate, you simply wont regret it, the new 4gs is to be launched soon so maybe hold off a few weeks tbh.

I have N900 and 3gs

There is *no* comparison whatsoever....totally none, the 3gs wipes the floor with the n900 in *every* regard with Loads of high quality free apps.

and for all the posters on here that laud the uber "open platform", let me tell you the N900 is not an open platform, what with nokia closed binaries, and Nokias totally closed development. Until Nokia opens up, the N900 is *NOT* an open platform.

As I said in another post (although some disagree) it is software applications that drive a platform. The N900 has no killer apps (although plenty of apps that kill the phone !), now the platform is in terminal decline, *very few* developers will be inclined to develop on it, instead moving to other platforms (my money is on android), so effectively what you have is what you get.

Just look at the thread on here for PR1.2 bugs........my 3gs has never crashed once.

And before people flame me, only do so if you have used a 3gs and not just basing comments on hearsay and propaganda.

Good Luck anyway with selling it, i was reckoning if I got £250 for mine (boxed as new lightly used) I would be happy tbh

You're right and I have been saying that for months but nobody seems to understand that - especially Nokia.

However, I bought my n900 because I wanted something I can tinker with and the n900 is perfect for my needs.

I can program it with Python and make pretty apps with Qt too - all on the device itself.

MeeGo is developing well - the n900 will have a lot of use ahead of it.

I never wanted the "Disney" experience of an iPhone - that just creeps me out.

I want to control the stuff I buy - I don't need a corporate dictator telling me what to do.

I like to think I am responsible enough to own an n900 and not too stupid to make my own decisions.

But if people want to buy an iPhone then that is fine. Most people who are scared or intimidated by technology usually buys one - that's fine too.

There's room for many type of devices in the marketplace which means choice and buying a device that suits you.

even multitasking with the 4g is a joke..

the only advantage the iphone has are the apps thats about it. never had any crash with my n900, really dont know what some folks are doing, probably a lot to do with the unofficial apps being downloaded..

how many of you have the n900 as your first internet tablet? because it seems to me that the OVI store is filled with crap and little to nothing where as if you look in thekapp manager you will find cool stuff...

in near perfect condition (i cant see anything wrong with it) it has an unbranded screen protector off of ebay and i have 5 spare screen protectors, it also has an aluminium pdair case for maximum protection

Alterntively if you've landed a dud device not fit for purpose on the manufacturers claims i'm sure you'll qualify for a full refund.

I am amongst that group.
Wanted to buy the iPhone 3G long time ago but its specs on paper could not match my expectations. An E71 did. batterij, multitaking, bluetooth stereo, VPN, keyboard, exchange support, nav software of choice... some other things.

Then I notice I do more surfing than normal on the stupid screen of E71 so I decide to buy an internet dedicated telephone.
After some research you end up where? N900 :D (dirt cheap, same price I paid for my first wap capable phone)

Do you really think I would need any of those programs in ovi store even if they ported all thousands of iphone apps and android apps together there? :rolleyes:
If you are a playful person that likes to find creative ways how to have more fun using a telephone by downloading an app every hour, the other phones are for you
If you like to mess around with linux without dual booting your gaming er office windows platform, the N900 is it. :cool:

Different user profiles - no need to try to convince anybody about the apps suport making a better platform

The top ten are all games apart from a twitter app, the next 10 are some security tool, more ridiculous games and facebook. Seriously if someone is trying to get me to switch to iPhone based on that list they must be kidding. I have an ipod touch 2g and like some of the apps but it basically is a music player sitting docked on my stereo all the time.

opps what i said was ten From that list as AN EXAMPLE

for me my 10 most used apss are trivial, but ever so useful to me

Currency convertor - one click and I have my fav currencies the UK£ will buy me, great as i travel alot

Trapster - with 3 penalty points already, this is great for extra help spooting sneaky revenue collectors, sorry meant traffic cops :D

Weather - met office data for my location for n days, simple and effective again great when travelling.

Sky sports news, great when im watching spurs playing, to keep an eye on other results with the live commentry, team line up etc

Sky News ......quick grab of the headlines

calendar - one calendar, synced on mt desktop, ubuntu laptop, to me invaluable of keeping track. Sadly for mee biggest ommision on N900 no calendar sync.

camera - never really used camera before i got 3gs, simple and powerful, take a snap, and a couple of taps send it via MMS or email. Not as good as N900 camera in all honesy though, I would descibe N900 camera as its best feature - quality is awesome in fairness.

Barcode Scanner - awesome, when shopping scan any item, get its details and all price comparisons.

Compass...hehe used this last week to align my freeview aerial in the general direction before tuning, couldnt see the mas (it was 37 miles away :D)

Amiga Emulator - coming soon :D....can't wait, i can replay all my own 68k assembler demos I wrote years ago.............(Created ADF's of my own disks)....but in reality I doubt if apple will let users run their own ADF images.
