[Announce] Irreco Widget

We are pleased to announce a Irreco Widget, which allows users to control various devices (TV etc) directly from their home screen. Main idea is to create a simpler and more easy-to-use version of the full (Qt)Irreco application. We are hoping to release first version in next week, and develop it further based on user comments. So if you have some great ideas what this kind of widget would need, please post them here and we'll consider them. Contributions also would very welcome!

Irreco widget is now released and should be installable via Application Manager if extras-devel repository is enabled!

Will try it now ;)

Re: [Announce] Irreco Widget

Excuse my n00biness but the widget still requires the (Qt)Irreco application right?

I installed the widget << >> but I can't find it ... I tried to find it in the menu and when I click "add widget" at the desktop

I already have qtirreco installed :??:

One word: Reboot :D

e: @Zokier i downloaded the remote for my telly and the volume + and - works, the off button works but won't turn it on, the channel + and - works but will only change one channel down or up and then nothing, ifi wait some time it will change one channel in the same direction again, but in that way it will take several min. to get through 20 channels.
I can see the telly reacts on the press on the channel changing buttons.
Is it a bug or just the remote the way it's set up from phillips?
Have had qtirreco installed and that worked fine with the same remote, no delay or not reacting ;)

Re: [Announce] Irreco Widget

is it universal or should we download the qtirecco software too and download remotes alone?

zokier 2010-06-03 11:44

Re: [Announce] Irreco Widget

Oops. Missed lirc as dependency. Should be fixed now in version 0.1-4. Nokia7Linux, please update, and if it still doesn't appear to your desktop or add widget menu, reboot. Sorry for the inconvenience.

The widget is completely independent of QtIrreco, although as both use lirc using both simultaneously is not advised. Irreco Widget currently overwrites /etc/lircd.conf which QtIrreco also uses, so some problems may arise.

edit: Dousan, thanks for the report. Will look into the channel change delays.

You download it through the widget, just tap and hold on the desktop and there will be a wrench on the widget. Press that and there you go on setting it up ;)

Good to hear that it worked. At here with our test television (philips), it works at 5 feet distance.

Distance depends mostly on the sensitivity of the receiving device.

Re: [Announce] Irreco Widget

@Zokier do you know why i can only change one channel and then have to wait like 5-10 seconds to change again? I can change one up and then only down again without waiting, but not zapp through the channels quick.

Havn't testet the distance yet.

We have bit trouble reproducing the issue here as our TV isn't tuned in for any channels. What model do you have?

Some philips 42" plasma flat screen (atleast 5 years old), the remote that works with the widget it's 15PF4121. The right one for the tv is RC1683701/01, but it's not in the download section under philips.

I've run into something else, everytime i use it, it wants me to connect to the internet, if i don't it will ask me every time i press a button on the widget?

Re: [Announce] Irreco Widget

One question: this widget starts and let it running the lirc daemon all the time?

Qtirreco starts and stop it to save battery: can this daemon do the same?

vinz486 2010-06-03 17:21

Re: [Announce] Irreco Widget

Ok, lircd running all time...

And... when i press a button, the connection dialog pop up.

Maybe that socket connection to lirc daemon is made via hostname instead of 127.0.0.1 ?

zokier 2010-06-03 18:33

Re: [Announce] Irreco Widget

The connection dialog popup is a known problem, although it is not clear why it appears. We connect to QHostAddress::LocalHost so basically I'd blame Qt for being silly, but maybe we need to create some kind of workaround.

There would be some overhead starting and stopping lircd for each button press, but maybe some kind of idle timeout could be devised. We'll take that into consideration.

edit: there seems to be long standing bug in maemo that causes the connection popup: https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1767

The xbox_360 remote should work right?

Or does my xbox need to search for it?

Version 0.1-5 has now an idle timeout mechanism that stops lirc daemon after a time of inactivity. The time is 300 seconds by default, and configurable via "idleTimeout" variable

I looked at Microsoft_Xbox360 remote, and it seems like it could work with a bit of configuration, which may be tricky to do. Basically you would need to match the commands bound to each button to correct command in lircd.conf. You can configure the commands bound to buttons in advanced settings dialog.

That said, the remote database is currently very much work in progress, and we are excepting to create something more userfriendly. Currently we use remote database from LIRC but it is way too messy to be used in a plug'n'play fashion.

We could either begin cleaning it up, but it requires a lot of manual work, so we'd prefer not to (there are over 3000 remotes currently, and we would need to go through each one and make it uniform with the others). Other option could be starting from a clean slate and begin collecting our own database based on user submissions. That would require some code to support a way to submit remotes etc, and an active userbase.

Re: [Announce] Irreco Widget

Another thing, scrolling is a bit buggy

Re: [Announce] Irreco Widget

I also had a trouble with my PCI Winfast DTV 1000 card. I had to change the config from (CH+, CH-, VOL+, VOL-) to (UP, DOWN, RIGHT, LEFT). Now its working great.
Scrolling is buggy and also editing the settings is really hard sometimes (very small area to click on).

Any chance to control more devices in next releases ? I need to control my TV and sound system (Genius SW 5.1, which is supported btw).

Re: [Announce] Irreco Widget

Can someone please create a remote for JVC RM-C1014 ? I tried using a different one JVC_RM-C1100.

If someone could even explain how I can go about creating one and perhaps updating it then I'd try it out myself.

Thanks in advance.

Re: [Announce] Irreco Widget

I installed it, I rebooted and my N900 screen was messed up.
As I was scrolling up/down there were several lines and particles changing on the screen.
I rebooted several times, I removed widget from the screen but the problem was still there.
I had to uninstall it.
I am on PR1.2
if you like I can re-install it and upload a youtube video to see exactly what I mean.http://img143.imageshack.us/img143/7...0060623032.png

Re: [Announce] Irreco Widget

That is ... interesting. We have no idea why that would happen. You wouldn't happen to be running custom kernel or overclocking or something that could be related, as that looks quite low level error in the rendering.

Re: [Announce] Irreco Widget

I don't use custom kernel, overclocking or anything related.
It's very strange

Re: [Announce] Irreco Widget

I installed it and me too couldn't see anything in menu, then i reboot it and still nothing. after few hours I noticed i have the widget on one of my desktops :)
And I uninstall it but the widget was still there but without working or being able to edit it's settings, then i removed the widget and it gone.

Works Amazingly and had to installing issues as well. I can not find remotes for Bravia such as mine RM - GA015, I installed one starting with KV-32LS35E. It works but i can not get the channel flipping buttons to work. The volume, mute and power works fine.

works great with our LG TV! thanks a lot! I just wish I could change the icon instead of a Mute to an A/V mode button. Keep up the good work.

Wow nice effects :D

It would be great if this can be done intentionally though :D despite the "text" area got smudged

Actually, there is a way to change the icons: open configuration file ~/.config/irwi/irwi.conf in a text editor and add "buttonIcon5=/path/to/your/icon.png" (without the quotes) to the end. Restart the widget and your icon should appear.

Note: this is untested functionality, and thats why we didn't want to expose it in the GUI.
