help please!!!
this is a call to all those out there who know a damn sight more about maemo and the n900 than I do.....
there's a load of talk about the new 1.2 firmware but I don't know how to get it??? I've had no exclamation mark appear in notifications and when I go into the app manager and run check for updates it tells me theres no updates available. I've had the n900 for nearly 5 months now and never had an update of any sort. what am I doing wrong? is it just a simple change to settings? please help thanks jc (in the uk........who clearly knows jack about phones) |
Re: help please!!!
Look in Settings - select About Product and post the version number here.
Might also help if you let us know your PC's operating system as that will help us [point you at the right FAQ. Edit: And try to avoid raising multiple threads about the same subject - it's sometime easier to search than to ask the same question many times. |
Re: help please!!!
Who is your mobile provider i.e. orange, vodafone etc. If you have bought directly from Vodafone, I understand they do not update the firmware. This would mean you have to manually flash. Very easy to do and nothing to be too scared of, just have some guidance the first time.
If you bought from a company such as MPD (mobile phones direct) then you should have received the update by now. You can go into application catalogs and check for updates. Let me know how you get on. |
Re: help please!!!
Check your version of Maemo from the settings to find out whether any kernel mods have messed your system up.
If you still havenīt tried flashing the device from your computer without the PC-suite, you better try it now. Nearly all the problems of PR1.2 are due to not using the flasher... |

TAKE A BACKUP FIRST USING THE BUILT IN APP!!!!! 1) Go into settings->about product... make a note of the version: if your with vodafone it should end with something like 205.1 2) Download the latest UK vodafone firmware http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/nokia_N900.php Note: you will need your IMEA to get the file 3) you need a windows xp machine (can be a vmware image), make sure its SP3 as SP2 has issues. 4) Download and install the flasher tool from here http://wiki.maemo.org/Documentation/..._documentation 5) Move the firmware into the installation folder for the flasher app. 6) open command prompt and make sure the path is the flash app folder were you moved the firmware to. 7) power off your mobile 8) type: flasher-3.5.exe -F <enter firmware here> -f -R 9) connect phone with usb, hold down 'u' key 10) once phone reboots your done. RESTORE BACKUP TO GET ALL YOUR APPS, SETTINGS, CONTACTS etc back. If you are unsure of any of these steps DO NOT PROCEED! Ask first. |

@n900faniam:
Assuming you do have the 'Nokia System Software Updates catalog enabled in App Manager, if you're on Vodaphone and they're not pushing PR1.2 OTA to your phone, you problem is with Vodaphone, NOT Nokia. Vent to them. If Updates isn't enabled and you don't know how to enable it plenty of people here will be glad to help. |
