Someone PLEASE HELP!!!!!
:(
Basically, last night I had a blinking update sign on my N900. I clicked to update as I normally do. The update was 100% successful (Before this, my last update was on 20th April 2010). As the phone re-booted itself I checked my messages and found that all my new messages have vanished from my Conversations & recently added contacts between 20th April - 28th May (last night)!!! ;0( I contacted Nokia and they said there is a way to retrieve these but when I took it to a Nokia Centre (in Carphone Warehouse) they said they will need to reboot the whole thing and everything will be deleted! Can anybody PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help??!! THANK YOU |

If they need to delete everything, go and backup all your data. (Use the backup application, then copy everything you need from MyDocs off to your computer. Make sure you get the "backups" folder.) |
Re: Someone PLEASE HELP!!!!!
So is there no way possible I can retrieve my messages back? I have now backed up on the PC but am more concerned about what has been deleted. I called Vodafone and they assured me the NOKIA can solve this problem?!

Re: Someone PLEASE HELP!!!!!
Also...my Backup reads as follows:
Backup4 29/05/10 This is backup Carphone Warehouse tried (but took me back to settings as Backup 2) Backup3 28/05/10 This is the backup which lost my messages - 4.3MB Backup2 03/04/10 Previous backup (the stage where my phone is now) - 3.4MB Backup1 22/03/10 Backup 30/01/10 |
Re: Someone PLEASE HELP!!!!!
WOW this is indeed an interesting one.

Re: Someone PLEASE HELP!!!!!
What was the update you got?
When you do a backup did you leave all the boxes ticked? if so then you have all your messages in the backup file. |
Re: Someone PLEASE HELP!!!!!
I've done this back up & restore a few times. Providing I had everything ticked on back up and restore it worked fine.
Communication & Calender, Settings and Applications all restored with no hiccup. By the time it had restored all the applications....grrrrrrrrrr....the restore command took longer (up to an hour) than the several minutes for flasher 3.5 reflash to PR1.2 One've your back up's should contain the convo's you appear to have lost. Maybe several restores until you find the one that contains them ?? If non do then i suspect you didnt have everything (namely communication & calender) ticked whilst backing up. Fingers crossed for you. |
Re: Someone PLEASE HELP!!!!!
this happened to me too, good thing i have a 20min old back-up before
i update. now my question, is there a way for the back to be scheduled and run by itself on a set time? |

Re: Someone PLEASE HELP!!!!!
I'm quite happy doing a manual back up every week or so. It's no chore navigating to the back up application plus it saves having an applicaton process running in the background for something that very quick & easy to do manually.
Unless of course your want to back up on a daily basis or even more frequent. Would be wise to consider the amount of back up files your device might end up carrying. Maybe the app could be configured to remove older back ups each time it completes a new one. Currently my back up is 35MB per file. Reduced from 70ish MB afer removing many many applictions that in reality i've never used much beyond initial installation. |
Re: Someone PLEASE HELP!!!!!
Sorry by not having a solution for the problem but only another question:
Am I right that the normal backup does NOT include Contacts ? I can only find Conversations, Calendar, Bookmarks, Settings and Applications That's the reason why I exported all my Contacts via the Contact-Applikation to a vCard-Folder - just to make sure nothing gets lost. CU - M_99 |
Re: Someone PLEASE HELP!!!!!
Dont think it includes contacts. However all my contacts are stored & read from the SIM not the phone memory. So when i reflashed & restored they we're not touched.
Note that i flashed the PR1.2 Firmware and NOT the EMMC area. Flashing the latter wipes the main memory area i believe. |

Re: Someone PLEASE HELP!!!!!
for some reason, i dont see any options in saving contacts, so in theory, they are automatically saved in the sim card and their e-mails are saved in your back up emails and their social network accounts are saved on the voip settings.

Re: Someone PLEASE HELP!!!!!
Sim cards can only store a certain amount of contact so I doubt the contacts are saved there

Re: Someone PLEASE HELP!!!!!
The threads "HELP...Firmware update gone wrong!!!" and "HELP...Update gone wrong!!!" have been merged into this thread. Sukhi101, DO NOT open duplicate threads. Also, titling your thread with something descriptive of the actual problem would have been useful and probably attracted more help.

Re: Someone PLEASE HELP!!!!!
Hi everyone,
Im just wondering whether anyone can help me...I have a Nokia n900 which is a great phone (too complicated for me!) but i cannot seem to get the much anticipated firmware update which was released last week. Would it possibly be as simple as Restoring Factory settings, or deleting some apps.. i really dont know and it would be great if somebody could help. Thanks |

Graphical Walkthrough for Windows: http://www.maemofanatics.com/how-to-...ur-nokia-n900/ Text Walkthrough: http://thenokiablog.com/2010/05/25/h...900-maemo-1-2/ Wiki Page: http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_firmware I recommend you look over all of them, to give you a good understanding of the procedure. Good luck. (That was taken from one of my previous posts.) |

3 things to keep in mind before you do the OTA update: 1. Be sure to do a backup first. 2. You must have at least 45mb free space in your rootfs (root file system). Check by opening a terminal and typing 'df -h'. You may need to uninstall some apps, particularly those from the devel catalog. 3. If you're on Vodaphone the update is not available OTA, so I understand. Once you have those three things covered, open the App Manger, tap 'Update' and when it completes refreshing you should have the update available. Click to install it and after downloading, installation and a reboot everything should be intact just as before - apps, settings, contacts. etc. If it still fails, post back her with more info or just follow the manual instructions xomm gave. |

Re: Someone PLEASE HELP!!!!!
Hi
Yes I most defiantly had all four boxes checked for sure. Iv'e called few Nokia care points and they all tell me something a little different. Some are sure NOKIA will be able to retrieve them back (apparently 2 other customers have had this done) and some are saying there's no way to get them back! But the thing is I never physically deleted anything at all! Iv got a string of hope as the N900 is more of a computer then a phone, most likely a specialist nokia engineer should be able to search in there?!! |
