N900 support coming in Ovi Suite 2.2 (was: Nokia is beginning to abandon Maemo 5)

1 Attachment(s)
The PC-suite requested me to update to Ovi suite 2.1. However, when I tried to connect my N900 with it this is what happened:

I hope that itīll be fixed. If not, we have been abandoned...

Isn't ovi suite a qt app? Why can't you port it to Linux?

My 2 trolling cents

Does anyone know of a way to only sync one way using Ovi Suite (from the N900 to the PC)?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: N900 support coming in Ovi Suite 2.2 (was: Nokia is beginning to abandon Maemo 5)

I love it when people say "it works in the beta", it's like I tell my testers "strange, it worked on MY computer..."

Anyway, the question is not when will 2.2 go live. The question whether after it we will be in sync with other Nokia users, and won't need to forever for the Ovi stuff to be ready for the N900, like we need to wait almost a year from the release of the phone till it gets the "common" Nokia software (Ovi Suite)...

Re: Nokia is beginning to abandon Maemo 5

Until OVI 2.2 is out, you can always use PC Suite to sync with your PC. It can sync the contacts and/or calendar with it's own tool set, or with Outlook. Not the best solution, but it works (and has since the device launched).

You can do exactly that in PC Sync in the settings area. You can also tell it to sync both ways, but if there's a conflict you can force the phone to always be right. :) Since people using OVI Suite 2.2 are still beta (and shouldn't be talking about it publicly), if there IS a way to do it, it should be documented.

Re: N900 support coming in Ovi Suite 2.2 (was: Nokia is beginning to abandon Maemo 5)

The Ovi beta is only supposed to be discussed at the official site per the NDA.

Please don't post about it here. That puts us in a very awkward position.

Man you are in breached of the term and condition of beta lab now. We testers agreed not to bring this up in third party site, please post it on official beta lab site instead. One thing i can confirmed is N900 is included in v2.2 but still not fully support.

This is all i can say! so please close this thread.

This forum is not about Nokia at all, it is about the software and a select few devices Nokia have released with a Debian GNU/Linux based operating system.

If this forum seems to be "ALL ABOUT NOKIA" it's becuase since the N900 we've all had to suffer a bunch of whiney kids that didn't really make a particulalry informed purchase.

Now, that aside, we do like to support each other, and even though we all find it very frustrating having to put up with the certain types that moan and *****, constantly, abouut Nokia here. We still try to help them.

So please forgive some of us if we appear short tempered, and, if you have issue with Nokia, go to the Nokia support forum. (which abill_uk is not here ...)

Hang on I take offense to that. I have yet to spot a non Nokia device supported by this forum so to separate Nokia issues out and sya they should be addressed on the Nokia support forum is just stupid.

I bought this understanding it was work in progress, but i did still think that there would be non beta version of ovi suite and ovi store within 6 months. I don't think that is unreasonable. I alsobought into a fledgling OS of which developement would not be abandoned within 12 months.

This is not a forum ALL about Nokia but the manner in which Nokia treats its customers of late it is bound to get critisim and moans on a forum that supports development and applications for the OS it uses?

Okay, sure you can take offence to that, now, should I start complaining about all my issues with the N96 I had? We're not Nokia, if you want to vent, go complain to a friend, you want Nokia's attension, go to their support forum.

We don't care about your moaning here, it's not what this forum was intended for and it just provokes people.

And you think you should come here and moan to enthusiasts and hobby programmers because you feel you wasted your money. boo-hoo ...

Personally, I should feel insulted that you think that's okay, but I actually couldn't care less :)

This guy has proved time again he has an attitude problem and this post just adds to it.
He lives in his own world along with ysss am afraid to say and neither are nice poeple at times so best to just ignore !!.

This is indeed a Nokia support forum and the best Nokia support forum i might add thanks to the very helpful members it has so i have nothing but praise for the help everyone gets on here.

The reason it is a NOKIA SUPPORT FORUM is quite simple... ANY problem for ANY NOKIA device can be discussed on here and usually lots of help and advice is given, so what is that if it is not support huh.

Why oh why do some people talk absolute rubbish i will never know but we helpful ones just have to grin and bear i guess.

You really know how to win friends ;) If you have a look through my posts you will find that I am very supportive to developers, profeesional or hobyists. N96 is symbian  and plenty of moaning about it on the all about Symbian forums too.

I agree this forum is not a Nokia moan shop but to castigate people who do have a moan at them, and a justified one at that, about programs they are still developing is just a tad odd. This is after all a thread about Nokia OVI suite and it is still in beta.

Anyway forums are all about communities. There will be moaning, praise, support and sometimes even the odd bit of humour, (or is that a bit of of odd humour), to deny a moan is to deny a very basic human need :D

You might feel abandonned, but I don't and I'll tell you why ....

I have a relationship with Nokia similar to my family, we don't talk every day, but when something goes wrong they'll assist me. They don't send me care packages or updates weekly, but every now and again, I get neat birthday presents and stuff.

3 months, PR1.2 was out last month, so really they've not supported you for a month. So now I'm going to offset all your future posts with a -300% reality distortion field. :)

I don't belive we get full ovi support with a new OVI version.
Or has OVI no SMS import and export function anymore?

A bug is blocking this since PR1.0 - and the target is (if any) set to Harmattan by Post #11 at Bug #7512.
So no chance to get this for the N900!

sygys 2010-06-15 12:41

Re: N900 support coming in Ovi Suite 2.2 (was: Nokia is beginning to abandon Maemo 5)

2.2 beta after 2 internal updates still supports only half of the functions on the n900. So there is still a long way to go before it will be released.

The program gives the message that the software on the n900 is not ready to sync sms. so we need PR1.3 atleast to get it going.

Why cant we discuss? the program is still the same nothing has changed really

u mean ignore me, bcs im crying about my lost money?

its not clear to me,

in hungary this little lie what nokia do/did is a consumer protection item.
i will search some lawyer, and will start a petition, about this deception. If the newer mobile will come out before a fully supported software to the highest nokia phone (most expensive). what we are waiting here like 3-4 months or more, then what is the question?

i dont have rights to write here to MAEMO.org if i have MAEMO op.system at my NOKIA phone?

and this meego op.system, i think everyone want it to n900, and u know why? bcs the developers will write more programs to meego and not for maemo.(this is my opinion) but this is the smaller problem.

thats why im loose faith about nokia

thanks for understanding.

peace

p.s. I think he has a point. I have not even seen a n96 post before. But that's just me...

As far as ovi 2.2. beta. The people who signed up for it (including me) agreed not to discuss it outside the nokia special forum. So. Someone posting on here a complaint is in violation of that agreement. Do I care? no. BUT. If something is in Beta with a NDA attached to it, and someone comes and complains/looking for answers, INSTEAD of posting on the appropriate forums....then I say, tar n feather . :)

In any case, I will remove myself from this conversation...

To be honest, other than possibly being phrased a little differently that post wasn't too off mark.

I've been trolling these forums since January before I got my hands on my N900 (so I knew exactly what I was getting into) and I have seen a lot of people coming here complaining about Nokia and when people disagree with them they go apesh*t so I agree, some of the "DOWN WITH NOKIA" posts cause pointless flamefests.

If I have a complaint about a Nokia device I will either call Nokia, send them an email directly or post on their offiial support forums, why people come here to complain about it I will never understand (I can understand if people come here with a problem and ask for advice, that is fine, but complaining endlessly about Nokia and how terrible the support is and how Apple support is amazing it just pointless).

Again: different forums. Different goals. Different purposes.

I realize that may seem to be semantics to some, but the distinction is very real. Any support you find here is 100% voluntary and neither officially supported nor sanctioned by Nokia. The company has specific forums for that, as has been stated here repeatedly.

And in general to all thread participants: do NOT discuss the Ovi 2.2 beta here. That is a violation of your agreement if you are a participant. You can debate the philosophy of that all you like, but it's really pointless to do so here. If anyone has complaints about Nokia's beta policies, take them up directly with Nokia. NOT HERE.

Thanks. Back on topic.
