[Announce] MyPaint 0.8.2-1 for Fremantle in extras-testing

MyPaint 0.8.2-1 for Fremantle/N900 is now in extras-testing.

http://maemo.org/packages/package_in....8.2-1maemo19/

* It is one package (<10M to /opt/mypaint) containing mypaint and mypaint-data (package mypaint-data is not needed or used anymore, you should remove it, if you have previous version installed)

* It has one additional brush kit from CreativeTone.

* It uses ~/.mypaint for default directory for scraps.

* Some of menus are hildonized by anders_gud. If you prefer original menus more, just make empty file named gtk_menu to default directory
(e.g. on the shell touch ~/.mypaint/gtk_menu) and remove it if you want use hildonized menus again.

* Old thread about porting/packaging mypaint: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=41807

Did you read this? I guess that it wont work before you remove that package.

Hi!
I Just cleaned mine Brush Library..

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
And I wish that Aapo could replace mine brushes with these?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

http://lpt.fi/~kasutoni/mypaint_n900..._v1_020610.png

These are now named and organized.. and there is no
so many nonsense brushes.

This is now quite clean set.. useful brushes ( 60 ).

Especially pencil and ink tools are improved...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
EDIT: V2 set coming soon.. plus "new" global pressure mapping.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks!

Tone

I second the new brush set from Tone in the next update and good to hear that it finally made it to testing. Keep up the good work Aapo :D

@Tone nice to hear that you improved your brushes, specially the pencil and ink wich is what i use the most ;)

Sorry to go a bit off topic here, but judging from the fact that tone's post was made at 3:50 AM and his heroic efforts, coupled with looking at the avatar, I suspect that tone may in fact be Batman.

Thanks for the great work, tone!

Thanks to everyone else, also!

Cool, thx Tone! Especially since you've been working hard, it ncie you took the time.

Truthfully, with all the brushes to choose from now I'm a bit over whelmed. So your update will help for sure, at some point I hope to take the time to create my own set from all the sets that's easier for me to find the brushes or grouping that I want.

I have a question about the layer manager. ATM you can't see what each layer contains. Is it possible to get a little thumbnail preview of each layer?

Theres a possibility to rename the layers in the manager. Just doubble tap on the layer. For me it was a bit tricky to find the right doubble tap timing, but it's doable and in that way you can manage your layers though it would be nice with thumpnails ;)

@Aapo
Tnx for the great app. I love it!

However, I have a small issue. When I run it for the first time it always crashes on startup. The second time it works without problems.

@Tone
Great brush set!

Hi!

Mine "Tone" Brush set V2 is almost ready... and
global pressure mapping were improved a lot.

I try to post these "V2" tweaks a soon..

PS. If V1 brushes were good ... this "NEW" V2 Brush set
will be amazing :) mainly because of

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"NEW" tweaked Global Pressure Mapping..

... btw. this were taken lot of my time... extreme difficult task.
... almost impossible :( (any coders here to make this easier task?)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

this also means that all other brushes work much better..
like Ramón, Tanda, Ico-dY, deevad...
...very much like my Desktop workstation with MyPaint and Wacom Cintiq 12WX.

It's so cool you're still working on improving the pressure mapping and yor brush set, thank you Tone :D

Hopefully Aapo will pick it up in an future update when you have released it here on the forum ;)

Anders_gud, aapo and tone you've done so much for this app - thanks alot guys :D

Re: [Announce] MyPaint 0.8.2-1 for Fremantle in extras-testing

Good Morning.. :)

Brush set V2 is now ready... but I still tweaking it.
also NEW Global Pressure Mapping is here.

BUT NOTICE ... this Brush set V2 and Global Pressure Mapping
were made for "my style". Some brushes will work effectively only in quite hard pressure. "Use your fingers also... or something bigger than small stylus tip/nib"

But all Ink brush variants in MyPaint and Nokia N900 with these settings... achieve much more cleaner and more beautiful lines than mine Wacom Cintiq 12wx and MyPaint (desktop).

Now I wish that somebody correct that "pressure sensitivity" bug.

Thanks!

Tone

Aapo: You can take these brushes and settings.conf and again...
replace mine so "old" set.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks!

Tone

i've tried overwriting my brushes folder in /home/usr/.mypaint with the instructions you've given in this post

http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=104

but somehow even though all your new brushes are there, they are in the default brushes subcategory, and are all jumbled up randomly. how can i get them all into a new "tone's" brushes category?

great work btw, i like your new pressure settings a lot, i just had to edit it slightly so i don't have to press too hard ... i don't have a screen protector :)

Yes, it is possible to make those thumbnails bigger..
they really are 128x128px... but this can be controlled by..

Code:

/home/opt/mypaint/share/mypaint/gui/
brushselectionwindow.py (line 57)

You find those magic numbers there,
i prefer myself 73x73px.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have done lot of new "great useful" brushes for MyPaint... and

Remember that there is coming NEW Global Pressure Mapping
settings... which gives unreal pressure sensitivity :D

My V2 Brush set coming soon, I hope..
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
EDIT: V2 includes now.. 91 Great Brushes for play.. but it will grow :)
I try to slow down ... so you do not have to wait too long..

My installed ver of MyPaint (N900) continually fails/refuses to update, even though the server repeatedly offers to update it for me. What's up? This has been going on for a week or more.

I think the brushes are included (though not under the header 'Tone'), but the global pressur mapping settings weren't updated, at least on my device, I had to do it manually.

Aapo,

I don't know if you have seen this (probably have), but is there a way you can make the volume rockers be useful in Mypaint?

Saw these in another post:

http://wiki.maemo.org/Documentation/...me.2Fzoom_keys

http://wiki.maemo.org/Documentation/..._Zoom_Out_keys

THough I haven't actually been drawing lately, but I'm trying to fix that bug also... ;)

Sorry if this has been asked already I did a search but didn't see anything.

I currently am using latest build of MyPaint however do not have a save option for JPG or PNG files. Currently it will only allow me to save in .ORA.

Just curious if I am overlooking something or forgot to remove something from my 0.7 install.

Hmm I did that however the file image is corrupted when either uploading it or opening via Photoshop CS5.

I guess I will have another go at it later, far to sick to be thinking about it.

Thanks for the help Silent Tim,

Re: [Announce] MyPaint 0.8.2-1 for Fremantle in extras-testing

Still doesn't work.

No Save option for PNG or JPG and renaming results in a unreadable format to anything other than MyPaint.

Just adding .JPG does nothing as the base image information is still .ORA.

If you would like a new thread for this issue I will be more than happy to start, just don't want to fill this thread with something which may or may not be related.

ed00 2010-08-25 02:16

Re: [Announce] MyPaint 0.8.2-1 for Fremantle in extras-testing

replacing .ora with .jpg during saving file works fine and can see it as an image with a rest of pictures in All Images .

Re: [Announce] MyPaint 0.8.2-1 for Fremantle in extras-testing

Yeah got it working, come to find out my one config file was really screwed up so a quick redo of the config file and everything is back to normal.

I really should have checked that before hand, my mistake really.

thanks regardless.

I haven't installed any mypaint packages yet and i'm itching to install it and get sketching,

Is there anything special i need to do to install it or is it straight forward from the repo's?

I have looked through the threads and all i can see is delete this and replace with that.

Thanks in advance :)

AFAIK it's an install straight from the repo. Nothing special needed to get it running, except it does take a while to start up and looks like it's crashed back to desktop.
Another niggle is the speed of some of the brushes when you draw with them (baring in mind we have only got a 600Mhz CPU) and some of the brushes tend to hang my phone.

But it's entirely up to you. I'd say it's worth a try.
