Question about moderator use of infraction feature

I want everyone to go to the thread titled Overclock the N900? and read the last 3 or 4 pages.
It speaks for itself.
Who is this moderator called Flandry? who is Matan? are they personal friends?
What is Reggie allowing to happen on this forum?.

please find another thread or better another forum for trolling.
the S/N ratio is already quite low here.
If you don't know how to show the necessary respect for other people you should practise some social interaction in the real world before you come back.
Assuming we're just a bunch of clueless kids playing with fire and waiting for the self-proclaimed superguru of electronics to arrive is just plain arrogant and therefore stupid.

Who is Titan?
What is going on on this forum since new moderators have been chosen?

It looks like someone was taking the initiative to clean up Titan's thread per his wishes.

On the other hand you seem to see it fit to flood it with seven posts in a row ranting about moderators citing you for abusing others and spamming with useless post after useless post. I suspect that any "wrongdoing" is merely your twisted perception of reality. And yes, you need to learn to use the "edit" link on your posts.

abill_uk, as much as i understand how it can be very frustrating.... in most cases the mods will get their way. There are ways to report moderator problems, and the best is to do it quietly and politely. Unfortunately by making a fuss it will probably just make things worse.

Moderators do not always get things right, and i'm sure they can admit to that. But they are volunteers.

If that is your opinion after i trieds to show an answer to overclocking in a safe a way as possible without damaging the N900 then you also are as bad as this Flandry for even agreeing with him and what has happened.

Whoosh.

I was talking about your misspell of the word serious.

Now. What I don't get is that you do know that you can edit one post and append to it without having to post 7-10 straight, one sentence posts, right?

Also... you are sorta spamming the site man. Slow down.

So you went on a thread about overclocking and started bashing their efforts.

It. Is. Not. Your. n900.

Will people please just take a look at this for themselves because it explains itself.

If you don't want to overclock your n900, why would you intrude?

Like sometimes I don't get you. They own the devices and they CHOOSE to overclock it

You've become more annoying that most people are willing to put up with? You've overstayed your welcome? You don't play well with others?

The thing is... you're creating a situation where people will largely ignore you due to your actions.

Re: Serioud breach of moderating on this forum.

I put some serious input about protecting the N900 against overheating and i did it in a fair way giving my opinion as an engineer.
What is wrong with that?.
Read ALL the issue here before making judgement.

Ok you lot get on with it but i know many many many people are going to start realising this forum as a complete sham as far as its moderating is concerned.

But they do not care

They know the risks and choose to proceed. I'm very sure someone mentioned the risks at the start of the thread. Nokia has released their official statement on it.

They can do whatever they like with their device. This is like telling a user not to watch pr0n on his computer because some pr0n sites have malware. The user is aware and chooses to continue. Let it go and quit creating a sh*tstorm

Ahem. Allow me to step in here and participate, if you will allow:
abill_uk. Dude. Chill. No, seriously! Chill.

They're moderators. This is their forum, and only our forum for as much as they allow it to be our forum. When you are in someone's house, you politely suggest and ask for things. You don't just open the front door, wander past them and start adjusting their furniture and eating their food without permission.

I complain a LOT. A lot. hehe.. a loooot these days. I'm certain that I'm a pain in the ***--but whatever a moderator tells me or wants, I figure it's their home and I'm obliged to either listen or go somewhere else.

I suggest you settle down and politely let them know about something and then have the patience to either let them handle it or else accept that they feel like leaving it that way. Alternatively, you can go find other places to hang out or even start your own. If you think you know better how to run a forum, I'm sure you'll do a bang-up job.. otherwise, just exercise a little politeness and patience.

God knows I have little patience but knowing it's their site helps. :)

Ok i am going to sit back and wait to see what Reggie does about this situation.
Nosa i cannot agree with you i am sorry to say so i will just let everyone now go to the thread concerned and read it all for themselves.
All i was doing was trying to help the overclocking in a safe way that would allow the device to handle such heat.
OK that is all i am prepared to say.

Lets leave it at that - as this could get out of hand.

But that's all you had to do. Just put that out there as a helpful warning and suggestion and then stand back and watch the magic as people, one by one, idiotically burn their devices. It gives you the opportunity to smile and say, 'I told you so.'

No need to wage a war over it. You said your peace and even suggested something useful. Let it be, lad.

Re: Serioud breach of moderating on this forum.

OK, guys, let's cool this a bit so I can inject some reason.

1. abill_uk, you would do well to listen to what posters here are telling you, and take responsibility for the consequences of your actions. Being a spamming pain can be as bad as or worse than cussing or attacking people.

2. Flandry is a good moderator who innocently used a warning/escalation feature that has not been officially supported yet.

3. Now that this has erupted, we are currently discussing going ahead with full and regular use of the infraction system. Odds are it will be adopted.

Everyone can relax now. No conspiracy.

EDIT: I have also made the title more appropriate. Flame away.

Re: Question about moderator use of infraction feature

Here's the thing, abill_uk, you keep on making personal attacks even if you have been warned several times by different moderators. Flandry gave you a 10 point infraction to document your behavior.

If you attack other members, they will probably attack back. We moderators and admins usually blame the one who started the attacks and guess who got blamed?

Regarding the infractions feature, right now it does nothing but lets everyone see how many infraction points a misbehaving member has. It helps us moderators see who gave an infraction and when a member received the infraction, and decide what to do if the member keeps misbehaving.

We are all talking about how to implement the infraction system. When we're ready, we will start a thread to introduce the infraction system so everyone can comment on it.

Thanks.

EDIT: btw, I deleted your off-topic posts in the Overclocking thread since they are not related to the original thread and you have started this thread already.

geneven 2010-06-03 21:25

Re: Question about moderator use of infraction feature

The new title makes my post off-topic. I thought this thread was about the disruption of the Overclocking thread.
