Camera settings problem
Hello.
What to know if someone else got his problem. If I combinde Exposure +0.5, +1, +1.5 and +2 with any ISO 100, 200 and 400 the pictures get totaly black. But Minus Exposure works fine. Also if I force flash on it works. And if I set ISO to Auto it also works fine. conclusion: Plus Exposure combined with Manual ISO does not work. Plus Exposure combined with Manual ISO and Flash Always On works. Minus Exposure combined with Manual ISO does work. Plus Exposure combined with any other setting works. This happend since PR 1.2, anyone else got this problem? |
Re: Camera settings problem
tried the settings you mentioned and got the same results. but, i don't really play with those settings or where to use them
|
Re: Camera settings problem
Its not actually black. In 1.2 playing with the iso settings directly affects the preview image. Whats happening is that there is not enough ambient light for the image to show with that iso setting etc.

Re: Camera settings problem
Naa, the pictures get black in sunny daylight also.
Recorded the scenario. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P821VMXGFY4 |
Re: Camera settings problem
I see this has been raised as a bug (10842).
|
Re: Camera settings problem
The Bug number for this is Bug 10384 and BUG 10842 (which is a dublicated one).
From my pont of view there is not enough official response to this serious bug which disables the advanced abilities of the camera. So please (to all officials) response to this and tell the users what are the plans to fix this bug. The best would be to meanwhile fast relaease a patch which fixes the bug. |
Re: Camera settings problem
BTW (as I noted in the bug description): I tried again some days ago and I noticed a similar linked bug when underexposing:
It should be correctly that way that at ISO 100, 200 or 400 the picture is expected to appear slightly darker step by step when the exposure correction is set to -0,5, -1,0, -1,5, -2,0 (underexpose). But this is not working correctly as well: At ISO 100, 200 or 400 the picture changes to a very dark exposure (almost black) when exposure correction it set to -0,5, -1,0, -1,5, -2,0 (underexpose). This linked bug wasn't noticed before because it is not easy to notice that the darkening of the picture is much to overdone instead of going darker slightly step by step. |
Re: Camera settings problem
have that too

Re: Camera settings problem
+1 to that

Re: Camera settings problem
Please vote for this bug in the maemo bugzilla.
There is already an entry about this. |

Have anyone experience any jaggid edge with photo taken by N900 when viewing in full size image?
Any straight line that is not horizontal become jagged. I think N900 camera setting is too sharp and causing it to create jagged edge on straight object. |
Re: Camera settings problem
Sorry that I try to insist.
But the summer is nearly over now and I am very angry that I cannot use this good camera in my N900 to shoot good photos! Currently automatic exposure is the only way to make photos which is not working well in many exposure cases! It seems that nothing is going on in this case - there is no feedback and no workaround! Please at least offer a package in the repositories to set the camera back to the last firmware status where this bug didn't appear! And please respond here to tell what is planned to solve the problem! |
Re: Camera settings problem
Does someone know a way to set the camera application status back to the program files used before PR 1.2.
It's really disappointing to use the camera in without the possibility to make proper camera setting to get a good exposure. Please someone of the core programmers help in this case! I think that only a few of us will use the N900 still in the next summer. The camera application was ruined with this PR 1.2 bug right before the summer began. What a pity - it's like stealing all candles right before xmas! |

Re: Camera settings problem
The OSS commuunity can maybe can fix this using fcam api and replace the old closed crap camapp :-)
Any developer who has some time over ;) |
Re: Camera settings problem
fcam refuses installing on my N900 because of the former installed Powerkernel.

remove blessn900 if it is installed... Install Titans fcam-drivers first - then fcam, lowlight and hdrcapture see http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=108 |
Re: Camera settings problem
Thanx for the help anders_gud.
My Application manager is now asking me to update these drivers - I guess I shall not do this - correct? |

Re: Camera settings problem
Nevertheless It's important for Nokia to repair this Bug 10384 in the internal N900 camera application very soon!

Re: Camera settings problem
After the last updated Linux Power kernel now Fcam and the associated apps are not working anymore (no preview is shown anymore when taking a picture, pictures are not stored).
So I uninstalled the Fcam, HDRcapture, LowLight and the fcam_driver and reinstalled the fcam-drivers_1.0.5-1_armel.deb again. But no success - Fcam refuses to be installed again. |
Re: Camera settings problem
I deinstalled the powerkernel and all fcam compnents (drivers and linked apps), then rebooted and reninstalled everything again 1) powerkernel 2) special driver 3) fcam and 4) linked apps (HDR and lowlight).
Now it's all up and running again. Other question: Does someone have an application (both for Linux on the PC and on the N900) to view and process the DNG raw files made by Fcam? Currently I can only use Evince ducument viewer to see the picts, but's that not very handy and not a real processing of a camera raw. |
