This device has caught my attention. What do you think of it? Personally I think it's a good alternative from the android camp, especially if the price won't be crazy like the Archoses. • Qualcomm Snapdragon 8250/8650, ARM cortx A8 1GHZ/768MHZ • RAM 256MB • 4G flash, up2 32G TF card • 7“ WVGA 800x480 touch screen • Sim card slot, supporting HSPA/UMTS • WiFi 11b/g/n • Bluetooth 2.1 • Hi-Fi speaker • MIC • MINI USB OTG 2.0 • 3.5mm stereo audio jack • Micro SD slot • Gravity sensor • Light sensor • 2 Megapixel camera • Li-ION 3.7V 2200mAh Code:
Operating System Android 2.1 Apparently it can be preordered at expansys uk for 300 pounds. http://www.ubergizmo.com/tags/huawei-s7 http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/03/h...-a-champ-at-c/ etc. |
Re: Huawei S7, 7" android tablet
I'll buy a tablet that has a cortex a9 dualcore 2ghz with 1gb ram.
It would be interesting to see if current a9 chips clocked at 1ghz can scale to 2ghz, like the a8 in the n900 doubling in speed when overclocked. |
Re: Huawei S7, 7" android tablet
why do you need an arm that quick??? Do you hate batteries?
That does look awesome, and makes me worry that my SmartQ V7 I have on order won't last long until replacement! The price point I'll believe when I see it though, phones of that spec and competitor's tablets with that spec have been rumoured to cost more... |
Re: Huawei S7, 7" android tablet
hmm, price is ok, tho i am unsure if i trust expansys after they sold me a US 770.
with 2.1 that thing may actually get marketplace. |
Re: Huawei S7, 7" android tablet
I don't know. I don't think the price is right. For that price, I'll want a full OS.
|
Re: Huawei S7, 7" android tablet
no worse then the n800 sold for, iirc.
and what makes a os "full" these days? |
Re: Huawei S7, 7" android tablet
ok now that's pushing the hold it to your head phone form factor a little too far!!
looks good tho, and dock with remote... |
Re: Huawei S7, 7" android tablet
So... it's arriving July 2nd, and the price is still 300 pounds.
Hm. Hmmmm. :) |
Re: Huawei S7, 7" android tablet
Could be a great on-the-go surfing tablet, its a shame the resolution wasn't higher(1024x600 or something like that).
|
Re: Huawei S7, 7" android tablet
that looks real nice, if the price was cheap i'd buy that in a heartbeat as a tablet.
wifi only and i'd pick that up over a dell streak. |
Re: Huawei S7, 7" android tablet
This is now available at Best Buy in USA. Has anyone been able to put MeeGo/Maemo on it and still keep the 3G/WiFi working?

Also, were you able to keep Android on the device or at least back it up to restore later? |
Re: Huawei S7, 7" android tablet
As I understand it, it is not yet possible to do a recovery image on the S7. Although it is being worked on.
I haven't seen anywhere that anyone has claimed to have booted anything other than Huawei images. From my S7 |
Re: Huawei S7, 7" android tablet
I don't trust anything made by Huawei.

Re: Huawei S7, 7" android tablet
Ahhh, I have read that thread, but it seems a little dicey to me. Besides I have no real interest in running MeeGo on anything right now. I'm not a developer, and MeeGo is still a developers' toy.
That said, I am quite happy with my S7 (another reason I have no interest in MeeGo on it). The battery could have been bigger. The resistive screen is fine, it got 512MB memory (not 256 as op says), can be o/c'd to 1GHz. Thanks to the folks at androidtablets, I have apps2sd hacked on, so there's plenty of room for apps. I have ADW with widgets, and have removed the stock Hauwei launcher. Replaced the wpa_supplicant file so it can see the ad-hoc connection from my N900. It works well for what I wanted, in fact I use it more than my N900 now. As you've noticed, plenty of good info on androidtablets, and they're pretty helpful as well. |
