Apples Markerting is amazing -
Apples marketing is amazing. After reading about the release of the iphone 4 on the front page of a news website it got me thinking. Nokia has a lot to learn. Nokia seems like it couldn’t sell gold to rich people while apple can sell poo
Apple could release most features on the iphones we had a long time ago but they wont. they ease it in slowley. They are kinda making everyone getting used to one feature at a time. I never met anyone who owned a N95 and knew how to update firmware, install apps, hack the phone and multitask. Only untill the iphone came alone most of the worlds apple owner I believe have become techier (maybe not yet but when the iphone can do it all). now the iphone has Video calls and you wait and see how many sheep will be using it like its new tech, but its a good thing. if only it was nokia or something open source :( just a thought. its a good marketing concept. Go to hand it to apple on that sense. |

Re: Apples Markerting is amazing -
the multi-tasking of the iPhone 4 is just like on symbian (minimized).
well to tell ya all, i like the iPhone, (except from the fact that "if you want internet browsing you must only use Safari, coz that's the Apple Law!" -tehkseven, but wait! there Opera Mini) but men, when the iPhone came in, everyone has iPhone. :D |
Re: Apples Markerting is amazing -
Sorta sad that your own verbiage is being used to sell more of their product. Too bad that's been done over and over in the past.

Re: Apples Markerting is amazing -
They didn't use "Connecting people" as a slogan like Nokia does; they used it in a sentence... a marketing sentence nonetheless, but just a sentence.
I'll be damned if I pay Nokia royalties each time I've said that. |

It's like a class full of chatters. They miss out on some of the important stuffs because they're too busy talking/bickering among themselves.
I know the 'learn from *****' analogy would be appalling to y'all, but you've to face the facts that one camp has a MUCH better marketing tactics than the other. |

The way they promote years old technology and say that it's theirs is just disgusting... I mean - Video calling: seriously? It's been around from 2004. - LED backlight: no comment on this one - Folders for apps: oh nooo... it's been in Symbian, like, from the beginning...? - Multitasking: looks exactly as it was in S60 back in 2007. At that time, Apple said that multitasking is an unnecessary feature and it's too difficult to use... - All the messaging from multiple contacts in a unified interface: huh, sounds familiar, isn't it? - 5 MP camera: huh, big deal! It's also been around from 2007. - 720p video recording: well that's from 2009. - LED Flash: again, back to 2007 - Font smoothing: Microsoft has it since 2001. I don't want to comment on the rest, either. The way they say "connecting people" just disgusts me further. BTW, yes, their marketing people are great! Still, the product is bloatware. Nokia needs to man up, pump some life to its marketing team, and start to think seriously about the marketing of the N8 and the next Maemo device VERY SERIOUSLY. |

how stupid and ignorant apple can get. video calling has been there for like 6 years. on thier web site they are saying that they make it a reality! bunch of losers. people should sue them
|
Re: Apples Markerting is amazing -
worst part, people hated symbian for folders. now suddeny its the best way to organise. A4 is nothing new. it is not developed by apple either. they way they talk on the video is kinda sad. we should pity them coz they are introduced to technology in 2010.

On the other hand, Apple is doing a great job of making high-end features more accesible for the mass market. Stuff like video calling have been possible for a while, but apparently it takes Apple to sell the feature to the public. I mean something must be wrong if you introduced something 10 years ago and people still don't know about it. Sounds like very bad marketing! So I think that yes, it's profoundly irritating what Apple is doing. At the same time, companies like Nokia have only themselves to blame for not selling these features to the public, and instead waiting to see what will take off with the public. This is a business after all! |

Re: Apples Markerting is amazing -
I despise Apple, and I despise the need for human beings to follow, but I am also a marketer and I have to say, Apple are way ahead - they don't need to worry about whether it has been done before or not. They have created such a cult brand with Steve Jobs as the god-like figurehead that if they said 'Steve Jobs is the first human being to take a leak in a urinal' they would all clap and cheer.
Nokia, on the other hand, does jack all. if you put posters up all over London (as Apple does) creating some kind of geek-chic around the N900 it would work, but whoever does their marketing has kind of totally missed out on how people consume advertising in modern times. Word of mouth is one thing but it is only one channel that needs to be supported by others. And lets face it, developers and e.g. Adobe will look at products based on how much coverage/cash they themselves get from it. Apple are vile, but their marketing strategy really is one are where all brands, not just Nokia, should watch and learn. Although clearly they should stop short of being dictatorial, humourless, totally-money-grabbing b*stards of the highest order. |

I just refuse to accept that this is the "watch and learn" role model you want other companies to follow. I don't wantg to live in a world where all companies only cater this one market segment: uneducated people. I'd like to have some more variety. Let Apple cater Apple-followers, they want it that way. But don't wish for other companies to go for the same market segment. You'll wake up in a world full of iPhones. |

No Wayyy!!! There are things like folders now???? Oh how technology moves so fast! I am soo buying an iPhone just cuz I can make folders!!!

Like folders, and videocalling, is your camera too good!?" "well now you can go back to basics and buy the iPhone "classic" where we have re-invented the way you use your phone!!!" :D |

I'm thinking Flash 10.1 here - if N900 was plastered all over the place even half as much as a HTC handset then they would have no option but to upgrade it. As it stands, they look on these forums and think it's an insignificant number of Linux geeks and semi-tech early adopters who complain among themselves, so nobody gives a stuff about it. Pee off the Apple fanboys, and there would be hordes gathering in Sicilcon Valley to beg Lord Jobs to overturn his decision. If the world ran on decisions based on merit rather than profitability it would be a much better place. Sadly, it doesn't. As far as I'm concerned, it's about using your brain to use the system to your ends without becoming a part of the machine. |
Re: Apples Markerting is amazing -
The 'retina display' which is a marketing gimmick is rather misleading as it suggests new technology. However they are the first product with it so they can claim it like Everest.

I'm starting to think the angst towards Apple's marketing is misplaced. People should be more upset with Nokia's lack of marketing in North ans South America as well as Japan.

Re: Apples Markerting is amazing -
iphone 4 is great device, don't try compare yet A4 processor not just a word. remember iphone foundation strong then what nokia got. in-term of software, customer service, programming, analysis skill apple better then nokia alot.
n96 - how long does n96 survive? less then a month become junk devices... n97 - plenty of bugs n900 - uncompleted device n8 - soli for that first meego - how does nokia did to consumer? WONTFIX is their answer how much they sell? even n8 how great, can beat iphone 4? no way. meego? no way either. nokia dunno how to develop software and customer support |
Re: Apples Markerting is amazing -
Im with gerbick. Nakia are seriously dragging their heels. If they were smart they would bring out and advertising campaign directly aimed at Apples advertising. As Venemo stated below this would be a brillant add campaign
- Video calling: seriously? It's been around from 2004. --- NAME Nokia phone - LED backlight: no comment on this one - Folders for apps: oh nooo... it's been in Symbian, like, from the beginning...? ---- NAME multiple Nokia phones - Multitasking: looks exactly as it was in S60 back in 2007. At that time, Apple said that multitasking is an unnecessary feature and it's too difficult to use... ---Actually state this and then Name Nokia phone - All the messaging from multiple contacts in a unified interface: huh, sounds familiar, isn't it? ----Name Nokia phone, hell name all the competition as well that has had this for ages - 5 MP camera: huh, big deal! It's also been around from 2007 - Name Nokia phone - 720p video recording: well that's from 2009 _Name Nokia Phone - LED Flash: again, back to 2007 - Font smoothing: Microsoft has it since 2001. I actually really like the new iphone look but until i get my hands on it i cant say whether i would get one. That said every time i speak to an iphone user about the new phone i point out all the above and you should see there jaw drop. No one realises all this stuff has been out for ages |
Re: Apples Markerting is amazing -
The thing that really twists my nips about Apple is all the free promotion they get on national TV. Here in the UK, we're constantly bombarded with 'news' about the latest products from Apple, or being shown a new 'App' on an iPhone like it's a revolution or something.
I don't recall the BBC news channel doing a feature on any other mobile phone launched by any other manufacturer in the last five years, and just look at all the fuss made by them about iPad. I accept that Maemo and N900 is pretty much chicken feed for geeks, but Android is fairly mainstream now, with much more reasonably priced handsets. I don't recall any 'wow look!' features on our news service about the HTC Desire, for example. I don't see any stories on BBC news bigging up the release of the N8 either, building up to fever pitch as the launch date approaches... The free publicity Apple get from the media is sickening and biased. If the news channels aren't showing stories in equal measures featuring other brands, they should stop advertising Apple products. What are they, BBC or QVC? |

Re: Apples Markerting is amazing -
Personally im not a fan of apple, when I see an iphone i just picture another sheep going into the slaughter. (but hey thats my opinion).
But when it come to marketing Apple sure does take the cake. As Nokia seems to push out a product every week or so and flood the market with their phones, Apple does the opposite (and it really works) they seems to take their time, do alot of market research, product research and really take their time testing out the device before it goes onto the shelves for consumers to purchase. Now im sure that Nokia does this also but nowhere to the extent that Apple has (I mean just look at the outcome of many of Nokia`s products). This is one of the main reasons why Apple is always talked about, always the leader and always in the news. It is also another reason why Apple only needs to bring out one product, because it seems so refined to the market. Dont think the Iphone4 was made overnight also, they had this baby planned pretty much since the first generation of Iphones came out. But I still dont feel the Iphone fever. |
