World Cup?
Isn't that a little gay, running around and kicking a ball for 90 minutes? Real men play American football, where they score dozens of points in a game, not just a couple. Or baseball, where most players might do at least 4 minutes of strenuous activity during each game. Baseball and American football players...those are real athletes because they look like real Americans, who eat Big Macs from McD's and Double Down sandwiches from KFC. Soccer players aren't athletes. An athlete is someone who can drive a car around an oval track a few hundred times at a leisurely pace. Someone talked me into going to a soccer game once, but I was like "F*** that!" when the security guys tried to tell me I couldn't take my cooler full of Busch Light and fried bologna sandwiches into the stadium.
If Americans aren't the best players, then it's not a sport.

Superb post. +5 funny.

France is in a tricky situation. The government is trying to push everyone to be supportive, but everyone hates the team (and more specifically the coach). The players feel so "hated" that they have their own hotel, isolated from everyone and everything in SA.

To give you an idea, some companies are selling HDTVs and giving a guarantee to the customer: if France wins the world cup, we'll reimburse the price of the TV. It'll be 100% free.

Imagine having a World Series where only two countries take part......how about that for audacity!

Now Rugby........there's a real tough game. And none of this silly, girly padding to protect yourself from some crunching hits.

Two countries. That would be the US and Dominican Republic?

It's not a sport without the insecurity and blind nationalism in the form of chanting the Star-Spangled Banner prior to EVERY game. Right? You had better stand and put your hand on your heart, or else Baby Jesus will strike you down in your seat!

I gotta say American Football is a real sport. There is no other game with as much strategy, tactics, and straight up physical action as it.

I'm a baseball fan myself though, and I've never cared much for soccer.

I am going to laugh, though, and perhaps watch if USA beats England.

Spoken like a true white trash american kid, who's never heard of other sports than baseball and american football :P. Rugby has at least equal amounts of strategy, tactics and physical action. Australian football (that I find helplessly stupid) is probably even more aggressive in terms of "physical action". Cricket is also a very strategic game, and requires physical endurance that most people can only dream of (go on and play for 5 days straight in blistering sun).

It's called football. It's in a completely different league than gridiron, so please keep the subject on-topic. This is a thread about the Fifa World Cup.

You should bet. USA winning versus England is rated at 6-to-1.

I didn't watch the games yesterday, but I heard it was plenty boring. France sucked, as usual, and didn't manage to score a flimsy goal. South Africa seems to have a good team, but a draw against Mexico doesn't bade very good for them. I'm quite scared of their (SA's) goalie, as he had to be saved by one of his defendants just 2 minutes into the game. Shame for SA that they couldn't hold their advantage after being in the lead for over half an hour.

Looking forward to seeing how Argentina plays, and also how Germany plays. England seems very hopeful, as always, because they haven't won the World Cup since the infamous Ghost Goal and Geoff Hurst, the only player to ever score three goals in a world cup final, in 1966.

IN REAL FOOTBALL

We actually do use feet to play
We don't stop play every six seconds
We are not covering head to toe in pads
We don't suck oxygen on the sidelines
We play more than one game a week
And have a real WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
.................................................. .....................
So if you can't handle that go play that sorry excuse for a sport they call Football..

:D

is just me or this world cup is being a totally crazy thing? the vast majority of powerful nations and favourite teams loose their matchs (spain loose against switzerland, england draw two matchs with awful gameplay style, the actual subchampion is virtually out, today germany fails a penalty and loose the match against serbia, and much more) what's wrong with all of these guys? it's the annyoning sound of the vuvuzelas or what? c'mon! i don't want to see a final match between slovenia and chile! (with all respect for this countries)

I'm with you.

It is beyond prediction.

some top teams seem make mistakes and can not make score. I am so disappointed when Spain and Germany lost.

Of course I cheer for the Netherlands :)

Netherlands - Japan: 1 - 0. In my opinion, the Dutch team did not give their best today, but in the end it is the score that counts.
