Cracked Screen :-(

Hi,

My screen cracked on me last night. The touch screen is not effected, it is the LCD itself. It is bust and needs to goto Nokia or Vodafone for repair. However i did a UK firmware flash on it as I wanted the latest features rather than wait several months for Vodafone to catch up. Is the vodafone firmware avaliable for download and is it possible to apply this on a phone already on PR1.2? I do not want any excuses for them to not do this under warranty.

I am gutted by the way as the phone was great under PR1.2 and now I feel lost without it.

Cheers

Octavius

my suggestion is somewhat wait for PR1.2 from Vodafone or may be just reflash it with the old vodafone firmware. Though the sim card won't be in the device and they can't check if your phone has been downgraded. But i think there is a slim chance that you'll have to pay for the repair since it's not the hardware faulty. It's accidentally.

So either way, PR1.2 won't makes any difference in warranty lol. Just hope they don't check the firmware version! but what's the difference between vodafone and nokia?

Nokias warranty does not cover cracked screen as it is caused by rough handling.

I found a replacement N900 LCD screen on ebay for 34.99p free p&p and it is a UK seller from Berkshire, looks a good deal and to fit it yourself is an absolute doddle.
Hope this might be usefull.

Yes, I think this is going to cost me a pretty penny. I will go to a service centre on Monday to see what they can do for me. Very annoyed as I was not rough with it at all, just went on me.

Hi abiil,

It is the LCD screen. There is no damage to the touch screen at all and infact it still works perfectly. Unfortunatly the LCD damage means I can only see the bottom 3rd of the screen. So your link is not what i am after, but thanks for finding it for me.

Just found another... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-NOKIA-N900...item2a07b1ec7e
This one is 44.99p buy it now from Lanc's.
This will give you a a price at least to replace yourself if Nokia want to charge the earth.

Re: Cracked Screen :-(

That is bad luck you know if the touch screen is undamaged but i guess it will bend enough to enable the LCD to crack.
The second link certainly looks like the LCD screen you have cracked but please take a look as it will be a reference if nothing else.

Re: Cracked Screen :-(

Hi Everyone,

Well thanks for the help and advice. I had my screen repaired yesterday at Nokia Care Centre. Cost was £50 fitted and all is well again.

I had the broken screen for 5 days and I could only see less than a quater on the right hand side. However I managed to get by making calls etc as I knew where my usual numbers were on the desktop. It was an interesting experience using a crippled N900 and made me more appreciative of the device when it was up and running again.

For one of 5 days I borrowed a Blackberry Bold 9700. Awful, awful device and I was glad to be rid of it!!

Cheers

Octavius
