Look at this
About locking phone files
And now, try putting it on a private folder or ".name" folder.
Cheers

You could edit file permissions in xterm.

For that you must gain root privileges. This has been covered here: http://wiki.maemo.org/Root_access

Presumably you could create a new directory with the sticky bit set and then put all the files you want to protect in there.

I wonder how many Linux users use folders with the sticky bit set to store their pr0n... God, the irony...

Anyway: The File Manager won't display files prefixed with a '.' and http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=54921 may help

You want to hide your files or prevent them to be changed/deleted ?

An application called "tracker cfg" allows you to exclude some directories from the attention of the tracker daemon. This way, the files from those directories won't appear in photos, videos or music.

To hide the images, you can very simply add a "." in front of the image name. Etc "people.jpg" to ".people.jpg". That will prevent it being shown in image browser.
To find it via terminal, you do "ls -a" (you have to do the -a part)

@Andrew85: simply open the app, scroll until you see the button "nowatchdirectory", push it, push add, select the directory you want to keep unread.
Maybe you could need to reboot.
I use it for music I don't want to be indexed in the media player, and it works well.

EDIT: the program from its menu offers also to "rebuild databases" and this should allow you to refrain from rebooting.
