Set up a folder named Private.
This will be private and not show up in general use.

i don't know if it applies to maemo, but in linux all files/folders starting with "." are hidden, for example ".foo"

As always, details are important.

What do you want to hide? How much do you want to hide it, as in, how hard must someone look to find it?

A password protected zip file might be ok to just keep people from looking at your pictures (or other data). Another way would be to use encryption. There is at least one thread about encrypted file systems here.

hmmm, i dont know if there is a gui for it but it seems liek the kinda thing that xterminal would support. i will post back with my findings. i know there has gotta be a command to do something like make a file or folder hidden

Just use homunculus file manager and create a folder starting with . and it will be hidden, then in homunculus press show hidden and it will show.
