browser double tap not working
 

Has anyone noticed that since PR1.2 the browser's double tap hasn't been working correctly? Maybe it's just me, but now double tap zooms out, or zooms into the wrong area, or scrolls up or down the page! One really has to try to get the text zoomed-in correctly. As I don't like the "whirl-to-zoom" effect, double tap is key in additiona to being quicker. Any similar experiences?

I found this related post: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=45225 , but doesn't really answer the problem, only tries to expalin it away. In fact, I've noticed double tap on the iPhone or Palm pre working significanly better.

+1 for that. It always zooms out and the text gets unreadable, instead that zooming in at the column's width.

+1 yep it has been unreliable and frustrating. End up having to swirl zoom. Guess we can't do much about this.

I though i just wasn't double tapping correctly and was missing the preferred coulomb. Glad to see I am not the only one.

is there a bug for this?

One thing I noticed is if you double tap in a blank area of the page (i.e. away from any text/content) it will full zoom. Kind of useful, albeit inconsistent.

+1 for this bug.

Double tap used to work perfectly, now it's an annoyance. I do web design as a hobby so I've got a decent working sense of underlying web page structure, and tap to zoom has always made logical sense in its behaviour, but now it's fairly unintuitive.

I've noticed swirl-zoom seems easier to use now but I've never been a fan of it.

I'm not afraid to dig around the guts of this system, anyone have any idea if this behaviour could be changed via a config file or if it's hard coded into MicroB?

Not sure if it's the placebo effect or not, but after making a change in the config double tap seems to be working again...

Can someone try this and let me know what result they get?

Open MicroB and type about:config, then find block-zoom.block-zoom-enabled and set it to true (highlight it and hit enter).

Anyone wanna try this and see if it helps?

That was it!

It now works for me much better. Like it did before PR1.2 :)

Excellent! Thanks....being bugging me forever!.....for the iphone there is an 'app for that' to fix things....for the N900....there is a simple setting you can change and make your phone better....I prefer the settings :)

And my off topic comment is:

This is why it is important to me that mods are cleaning up repetive and sometimes useless threads.

This problem affcted us all but wasn't adressed until someone who proposed a working solution saw this thread.

Big thanks also from me :) My n900 is now my primary browsing device and that quirky behavior of double-tap really ruined the experience...

This only happens i Microb if the "enable rotation" is enabled.

Still failing on some pages though, zooming out instead that zooming in.
