maemo Games: Zen Bound for N900

As we already know from the Secret Exit (the developers from Zen Bound) thread, Zen Bound was released some hours ago.
It is available for 4,99€ (in Germany) at the Ovi Store.
The team of meetmeego.com got a copy and made a video.
A more detailed, written review will be released soon.

You can watch the video here:

This has been thoroughly discussed in this thread. The browser is silent when it's downloading the game data. Be patient and the App Manager will eventually show up.

Yeah don't panic. The device becomes buggy as hell when downloading. Leave it there for a couple minutes, and it'll work ! :)

Re: maemo Games: Zen Bound for N900

Well there are a few hypotheses for this situation.....

1. You guys have played with your phones to much and perhaps move or altered folders files etc on the phone and now it wont install properly.

2. Nokia didnt fully test this game when it was submitted to the ovi store, so now they are going to get hammered with bad customer service.

the MicroB will show blank page as if it has stopped responding but if you can go to Options > Download.

it will show the download progress.

For all of you , who are facing problem with the installation .
JUST BE PATIENT. When you press the dowload button , it takes some time about 2 or 3 minutes , for the application manager to open .
And most of you (and me also ) thought that the download doesnot work , so you press download again again , with regard to multidownload the file ,and finaly have problem with free space.
SO just press only one time the download button and just wait .
In order to check that the download has started, just open conky and check if the rootfs space is reducing. (close and open conky in order to see the difference , because the changes to rootfs , are not real time)

Great game. I remember seeing screenshots briefly and thinking it was gonna be a good'un, and it is!

Quite happy to pay the $6.60AUD it costs over here for it.

By default the sections are not sorted by date.

Or just open menu -> downloads and you see the progress of the download.

Re: maemo Games: Zen Bound for N900

That means that MicroB is handling the download, not Application Manager... And the reason it is not using the MyDocs cache... Interesting approach.

Re: maemo Games: Zen Bound for N900

i just managed to download it two times. god dammit with this sht. is there any bug report aboout this download window not popping up for downloads?

.edit
And yes it said on second time that rootfs is too full so again nokia has manage to fck this up on too many levels. btw. is it really so that i can't change my credit card details only then when i choose to buy something?

Now i try to enjoy this game. We can just wait and see how new angry users start to come here asking why they can install this. oh my dear.

I went to Games and then sorted by Best Sellers, and it shows 2 games. Angry Birds Level Pack 1, and Zen Bound

Interesting approach? IMHO it's yet ANOTHER failure of OVI and the Maemo team. I've tried to stick with Maemo for so long now, made it to the top community members page by trying to give so much to the community, and have to encounter Nokia major failures again and again. Are these guys a bunch of incompetents? Freakish engineers with zero interest in end-user experience? I'm willing to buy these games (got Angy Birds Level 1, love it), but they make me fail again and again

The OVI store:
  • Is many months too late
  • Deceived everybody when it stopped paid apps earlier in the year
  • Has a confusing and mainly unusable navigation
  • Stopped accepting my registered credit card that worked well months ago and only accepts it after registering it with the same exact data again.
  • Has no way to properly handle large downloads such as Zen bound - I got the same error as the ones posted above, about /var/tmp being full. App manager never came up.

At work, I've done iPhone/iPad development during the last two months. While I still don't like the closed, paternal approach of Apple at all, at least they get the technical things and user experience done right. Nokia, WAKE UP!

It's probably not put in the repository because of how insecure the Ovi repository is. I'm not joking: It took me 10 seconds to make HAM show packages from the Ovi store (I didn't even need to build my own version for this) because I closed my Ovi account due to the My Nokia **** and the arrogance of their "it'd be in your best interests" fill-this-survey-in email I recieved.

Still... I'm not sure the deb approach is any better... as has been said before, debs are easy to redistribute and HAM will at least clean up the cache after install.

Re: maemo Games: Zen Bound for N900

The problem is that the file is being downloaded to rootfs. Who doesn't have 46MB free will not be able to download it.

** Editted because this might be used for piracy.

Bundyo 2010-06-17 08:06

Re: maemo Games: Zen Bound for N900

Both things are a problem, not detecting the same download on second click is at least one more. Not presenting any visual clue to the user while downloading is major usability fail.

Re: maemo Games: Zen Bound for N900

Just purchased Zen Bound

Great game and I hope there are more to come from Secret Exit and other developers.

Just remember when you purchase and hit the download button on ovi, it does take a while to download in the background before going to the application manager. So dont think it didnt work.

This is a very good marketing opportunity for any developer also because even though the N900 isnt the most popular device out there, there is a large number of people using the device and the N900 market is virtually untouched by official developers.

Also another thing to mention is that if you do get any error messages or problems when installing the game. Please just try it again, I got an error message on my first try after pressing the download button about 4 times yet when I tryied it again it installed with no problems.

Great Stuff, please keep it coming.

Purchased it the moment the announcement came up on the Secret Exit sticky thread. Keep it coming, SE guys and gals.

No Ovi Store credit troubles, somebody sure did something right this time over at Ovi Maemo HQ.

After the Ovi store 'fun' of it not succeeding the payment on my card, I got it downloaded and installed, very good work SE! Its a very polished game :D

Good game, Ovi store is woeful though. Any body who is having problems I suggest you just persevere, it will download eventually.....maybe.

Re: maemo Games: Zen Bound for N900

Purchased, clicked once and waited for the download, works well, despite the dodgy install UX.
Quite loud over headphones for me though.
Enjoyed the demoscene Zen Bondage on PC ages ago - happy to support their endeavours with a purchase, even if £4 in Ovi is a bit steep compared to $3 for the iPhone version.

Can't believe they are charging £4 for this rubbish rope tie puzzle game! what a rip off!
Graphics look good but for gameplay and value for money it is a waste! I would pay £1 at the most for this lol
They need to release jurrassic 3D rollercoaster already! that would be a sh*t hot game to play
