One question about my new Nokia N900: Slowdown after installing apps?
Hey there. I bought a little used nokia n900 for couple of days ago and it was alot of stuff on it when i had it but everything worked fine and the browser was doing a great job. I restored my phone to original mode and after that i put 10 gb of music, i installed debian and openoffice aps and i packed my desktop with some shortcuts and of course downloaded some apps and now it is a bit slower. For example in the begining i could watch live stream football match on my browser and it worked fine but now it lagges and are really slow.
How can i fix this? |
Re: one question about my new nokia n900
Well, if you are confident enough with technology and Linux you can try over-clocking. If you aren't, remove some programs you don't need.

Sounds like a memory leak caused by one of your apps/widgets. Try the top command in Xterminal (or download Conky) to see what your highest CPU usage is coming from. Alternatively, remove widgets/apps one by one until you find the culprit.

The top-command shows what your most resource-consuming processes are. If there is some program that is consuming too much CPU or RAM you should remove the application or ask for help with it.

Re: One question about my new Nokia N900: Slowdown after installing apps?
In my experience, nothing should take up more than 5% of your CPU in idle (except for that damn modest client :P) I forgot about Htop too -- I find it to be useful for this purpose.
Btw people, don't forget the thanks button :) |
Re: One question about my new Nokia N900: Slowdown after installing apps?
one more question, for example i have none application open and then i go to xterminal and see some application running, how can i close them through xterminal?, and is safe to close most of the applications/servers like for example Xorg or hildon-desktop? I really appreciate your quick answer i´m really happy with my nokia n900 and the maemo community to help me to get deep into it ;)

audio has been mint only ocasionally stuttering but video streams are always poor :( if i was tbh it never has been good and hoped that a update would improve it, lol still hoping lol but reading other threads some people have good streams others don't, no industry standard

there is a link in the front page that says "update the tablet firmware" the wiki is really pretty good, so if you have a little clue what you are looking for (doesn't apply fully to this situation), use it! |
