Help! Bluetooth will no longer transmit call audio.
The Symptoms:
After successfully pairing the N900 with a headset device, or my car's Bluetooth, I am able to initiate and receive calls, however any of the audio from the call is not transmitted to the paired device. This used to work up until yesterday... I have not installed nor updated any software in the past week. The only thing I have done differently is I tried streaming music from the N900 over Bluetooth to my car's stereo system. This worked perfectly, and still works, I am able to hear that audio without problem, but I believe that since I did so, the audio from calls no longer works. I've tried rebooting the device, but still nothing. Any idea what could be going on or how to fix it? Thanks *EDIT* Of course regular calls from the N900 work without problem. |
Re: Help! Bluetooth will no longer transmit call audio.
Anyone have any input at all?

Re: Help! Bluetooth will no longer transmit call audio.
Don't know much about bluetooth at all, but reading through some thread, I have a feeling the N900 is now only transmitting over A2DP, and therefore it is not transmitting the voice calls.
When I initiate a call, I notice it is transmitting something, I hear the "background noise" changing when the call initiates over my cars speakers, and I hear a slight click, but the call's audio does not go through. Any idea how to force/change the BT protocol from A2DP to voice protocol? |
Re: Help! Bluetooth will no longer transmit call audio.
hi, any progress on this?
when you pair it, you can see details and it shows which protocols are in use. check that. |
Re: Help! Bluetooth will no longer transmit call audio.
no progress,
thanks for the reply. when I pair my headset I am not sure where it shows details about the protocols. Under "devices" it always shows the same protocols whether connected or not: for my headset it shows HFP,HSP "device type" audio/video for my car blutooth it shows A2DP, HFP, OPP "device type" headset not sure how accurate that is... my last resort will be to re flash, but I'd rather figure out what's going on. |
Re: Help! Bluetooth will no longer transmit call audio.
Hi, my car stereo supports A2DP, HFP, HSP, SPP and I remember a few times loosing audio, but the other side was able to hear me saying "hello?" i fixed rebooting or repairing.

Re: Help! Bluetooth will no longer transmit call audio.
i would remove/ disassociate all bluetooth devices, restart the phone, repair the headset first and see if that helps at all.

My stereo is from Volkswagen.

Re: Help! Bluetooth will no longer transmit call audio.
I think the poster means re-pair the headset.
I have done all that - no change to my outcome. |
Re: Help! Bluetooth will no longer transmit call audio.
Hi all,
I have exactly the same problem as Dantonic, was working perfectly one day, the next it pairs, allows the call to go through the hands free device, but no actual sound. Very strange. The hands free device is ok as i have tested it with anothwer phone. Something has happened to the Hands free bluetooth connection. Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks |
Re: Help! Bluetooth will no longer transmit call audio.
OK, so I filed a bug for this (link in my signature)
One of the nokia reps... suggested to check a few things including the call volume while making a call while paired. Apparently somehow the systems had automatically set my volume to 0. I guess there is a separate volume when paired to BT. So try connecting, initiating a call, and raising the volume on your N900. |
Re: Help! Bluetooth will no longer transmit call audio.
Thanks for the tip. I was trying to figure out what happened to my headset. Turning up the volume worked.

Re: Help! Bluetooth will no longer transmit call audio.
Hi all, i found that if i had the media player in pause, it wouldn't work. I have to make sure the playlist is clear, then it works fine. cheers Simon
