Anyone up for a Helsinki meetup? (and/or Tampere - Akademy 2010)
 

Maybe this isn't the best time of the year considering vacations, but is anyone interested in having a Helsinki meetup sometime soon? Depending on the number of people, we could just go hang out at some quiet bar or have a picnic.

Personally, I have no major scheduling issues for the next four weeks.

Yes i agree totally and it gets a little bit much when the guy keeps following me on every thread i leave a comment almost so am not suprised i have a go back as the moderators seem to fail in this area.

Back to the subject-- what about a meetup during Akademy 2010? A lot of us will be there... well, Tampere anyway.

Thank you for that! I had forgotten about the location of Akademy. Just signed up for Fri-Sun now. I need to be at work during the week :(

I'd still like to meet people in Helsinki too, though. Tampere will be more international, and it would be nice to make local contacts as well.

I'll be at akademy for the seminars during the weekend. can't attend the workshops though. I think friday before or after the registrations would be good time to meet. how about if we go eat somewhere? there's a few good places to eat near the registration place (Demola). not big places though. so if there's many of us the eating might not be an option.

Goddammit. Now I'm wishing I was going to Akademy. But I'm already doing waaaaaaaaay too much travel this month, so I won't be able to.

I'm arriving at Helsinki Vantaa airport at 2:50 PM July 2. Still looking at my options to get to Tampere (bus, train, etc). A friend there sent me schedules and info so I just need to pick what works best.

I've now reserved a seat on the train I mentioned, but I realized that anyone arriving on it would still have to go and check in to their hotel. Even so, if you're going to be on the same train or meeting us in Tampere, post here. It'll be easiest to meet early anyway imho.

I'm leaving Finland tomorrow so I can't make it....

There are one or two Maemo/MeeGo developers from Nokia in Helsinki and Tampere. Once you have decided the time and place you could send emails to maemo-developers and meego-community, perhaps even meego-dev. MeeGo forum at your own discretion, maybe there are more Finns there?

To the guy of the rotten tomatoes: you should meet us somewhere at some point. We are not corporate clones.

About the time. At least I want Texrat to be able to join so pre-reg is out so we'll have to do this a bit later. I propose 7PM since the registration closes then.

For the place I propose Plevna (http://www.plevna.fi/index_e.php) which is about 100 meters from Demola. There should be something for everyone (food, beer, etc.). I'm assuming everyone is at least 18?

If you're not familiar with Tampere and/or need a guide from the railway station I can come to the station to meet you.

And another thing. If there's people not willing to publicly announce that they're planning to join the meeting please PM or email me (You can pick up my email address from the related post to maemo-developer, -community and meego-dev). I'm planning to make a reservation for a table or two (or more) just be sure that there's seats for us.

I'm currenly on the other side of Finland and going back to Tampere in the beginning of next week so if there's no objections to the place I'll reserve table(s) for us on tuesday or wednesday.

The more people who can join the better, but a lot of people will still be arriving earlier. I suggest anyone who's interested meet me when the registration starts, at 16:00, and we'll come up with something else to do while we wait for the later meeting.

This sounds good to me. I was planning to show up pretty early anyway. We can do something during the registration and wait for the people arriving from longer distances.

If people get bored waiting for the 7pm meet, there's for example a spy museum next to the registration place. It's open until 6pm. I haven't actually been there but it's been on my todo list a long time.

Sure, I'm not sure yet which train I'll catch, but I'll leave from the central railway station(you've buses for 4€ from the airport to Rautatientori).

What is the exact date for this meeting? From what I understood, it is going to be exactly one day after I head off on holiday... along with all my N900-owning work mates... :(

I'm back in Tampere and I'll make the reservation today. I'm Counting 6 people from this thread so I'll try to reserve a table from Plevna @ 7pm that is big enough for ten people in case someone else shows up.

So here I am, finally signed up at Maemo talk. Yes I'll be meeting Texrat at the Tampere station. Randy, you might save some time (and money) by taking a bus to the Tikkurila station (bus 61 from platform 22, fare 2.50€) instead of all the way to Helsinki main station. The train leaving 16:06 from Helsinki will stop at Tikkurila at 16:22. I suggest the restaurant car will be a good meeting place on the train :)

Not sure if i'd go earlier for the Akademy pre-reg at Demola (depending on work). Look forward to meeting some of you at Demola/Plevna.
