N900 Fm-Transmitter doesn´t work.
I just bought a new Nokia N900 in Finland. It´s legal here to have a Fm-transmitter.
When i start the musicplayer and turn fm-trasmitter on, the music stops from the phones speakers and the fm-transmitter icon appears. The problem is that it doesn´t transmit anything. I have tried different radios, and different frequencys but nothing :( Is the fm-transmitter broken ? My firmware is 10.2010.19-1 I have installed the Simple Fm-Transmitter widget, Fmboost and even tried fmtx faker. |
Re: N900 Fm-Transmitter doesn´t work.
Someone had this problem earlier and I think he found a solution. Search for it

Re: N900 Fm-Transmitter doesn´t work.
I read a long time for all threads and didn´t find a solution. :(

Re: N900 Fm-Transmitter doesn´t work.
I found the transmission range surprisingly low on my N900 - I have to find the 'best' place by waving it around my car, and there appear to be lots of dead spots where nothing is received by my car radio at all.
So my suggestion is move it around a bit... |

Download FM Boost on the app man.
Works much better for me |

Re: N900 Fm-Transmitter doesn´t work.
With car radios, a lot of heavy sheilding in the cable connecting the external antenna to the headunit in the dashboard.
|
Re: N900 Fm-Transmitter doesn´t work.
Mine worked in the car once I unplugged the external aerial..
|
Re: N900 Fm-Transmitter doesn´t work.
Use the FMboost app - helps ALOT!
Had the same issue until I tried the boost, which sets the tx to 118 - still inaudible in some vehicles, but works really well in others. |
Re: N900 Fm-Transmitter doesn´t work.
i've got the same problem as well, and couldnt find a solution for it either (from a previous thread - cant seem to find that thread now though). so i'm stuck without it.. i imported the N900 from the US and i live in Australia, so no chance of me claiming warranty here :(
someone suggested pressing the left part of the keyboard (near the Ctrl or Function keys) and that has worked. maybe you can give that a shot? |
Re: N900 Fm-Transmitter doesn´t work.
Dunno if it helps, but the n900 powers down the transmitter when charging. You need to use FM-boost to boost it back up again once charging has started.

Re: N900 Fm-Transmitter doesn´t work.
download fm transmiter faker from repository
|
Re: N900 Fm-Transmitter doesn´t work.
as i wrote that i have tried fm-boost, different radios and different frequencys. still the fm-transmitter is dead :(

Re: N900 Fm-Transmitter doesn´t work.
Execute the following commands as root from command line and see if you get any error message
Code:
/usr/bin/fmtx_client -p 1 |
Re: N900 Fm-Transmitter doesn´t work.
cannot create : permission denied
|
Re: N900 Fm-Transmitter doesn´t work.
Did you run as root?
|
Re: N900 Fm-Transmitter doesn´t work.
i typed sudo gainroot again and now it got through without any errors. still its dead :(
|
Re: N900 Fm-Transmitter doesn´t work.
Hmm, okay. Gain root again. Install lfocus on extras devel (apt-get install lfocus)
Then type the above 2 commands. Then type Code:
/opt/lfocus/v4l2-ctl -d /dev/radio0 -f 88.1 P.S. Of course, start playing something in media player before you do any of this |
Re: N900 Fm-Transmitter doesn´t work.
Hi there
i was have this problem and what you have to do just find a empty frequency and keep the device near the speakers i found that by trying many places in the car +_+ and try another radio device and see the diffrent between them |
Re: N900 Fm-Transmitter doesn´t work.
Hey guys,
this might seem silly but the volume levels are much lower than your normal radio station and I always have to turn it up way more than I would previously have had on my normal radio station. With fm boost it should be working great. I never have an issue and have even freaked my friends out when I get out of the car with my n900 still in my pocket, and walk atleast 30-50 feet away into the gas station, walking all up and down isles, and there is still perfect sound. In my experience there are some areas where the signal gets bad, usually in areas with a lot of electrical lines and traffic. The worst culprit however is simply the shielding on the car radios themselves... sometimes even though I use the fm widget which automatically uses fm boost, I will still have to go and press my fmboost shortcut and a better signal is achieved somehow despite it already being at 118. ... For anyone having issues with the fm transmitter, my suggestion is to just check your normal troubleshooting: double check the channel/frequency and make sure that it is right on (mine is always 89.7), and make sure that it is not a popular channel that might have a stronger frequency than your n900, preferrably one that is normally just static or nothing, and preset it to one of your radio channels in your car, connect your n900 to that channel, then turn the car volume up higher than you normally would and everyone should be fine. Mine works fantastic and I use it every day. I hope this helps |
Re: N900 Fm-Transmitter doesn´t work.
i installed lfocus. then turned on the player. after that i typed in the first two commands and then the third command. There was no problem with the commands. I tried with three different radios again and inches away from the antennas. Still nothing, not even a buzz :/

Re: N900 Fm-Transmitter doesn´t work.
Does anyone know the relative battery suck of the FM transmitter? I wonder how it compares to having the camera LEDs on, or back-light on, or a bunch of daemons running, or the speakers 2/3 the way up etc. Maybe off topic, but when was that one battery monitoring program going to be back in the mainline maemo.

Re: N900 Fm-Transmitter doesn´t work.
Hmm, okay...as root, type alsamixer -c0
Third item there is FMTX Fun. Turn that ON and then try the above steps again. Does that work? If not, go back into alsamixer -c0 and see that FMTX Fun is ON and the next item after FMTX Fun, called Line DAC, is not muted. Try to increase the level of Line DAC to 100 and see if that helps Again, make sure you are playing some music while doing this all the time. |
Re: N900 Fm-Transmitter doesn´t work.
first i wrote
sudo gainroot then i started the player. i typed in terminal alsamixer -c0 and turned on FMTX Fuction and pushed esc. Then i typed /usr/bin/fmtx_client -p 1 with no errors and then /bin/echo 118 > /sys/class/i2c-adapter/i2c-2/2-0063/power_level with no errors after that i typed /opt/lfocus/v4l2-ctl -d /dev/radio0 -f 88.1 This gave me a big list of commands :/ The fm-transmitter icon were visible and the music was playing all the time. Still i didnt get anything out in two radios that i tried. I moved the phone everywhere near the radio. After that i went back to alsamixer -c0 and there i raised the Line dac to 100. Still nothing :( I think my fm transmitter is broken :( |

Re: N900 Fm-Transmitter doesn´t work.
For volume levels, just go to alsamixer -c0 when FM transmitter is on and make sure you turn the Line DAC (4th item) all the way up to 100.

Re: N900 Fm-Transmitter doesn´t work.
Ari
What output did /opt/lfocus/v4l2-ctl -d /dev/radio0 -f 88.1 give? |
Re: N900 Fm-Transmitter doesn´t work.
it didn´t give anything. just went back to the command line

Re: N900 Fm-Transmitter doesn´t work.
My FM-transmitter have always worked perfect. But it seems to be broken now. I am sure it's on the right channel. I have used fm-boost and fmtx-faker but it still doesn't work. I even reflashed my device, but it still doesn't work.
Is there anything I can do, before I can be sure it's definitely broken? |
Re: N900 Fm-Transmitter doesn´t work.
*Bump*
When I hold my N900 next to the radio-antenna I hear very quiet sound. This means that the FM-transmitter isn't really broken, but sends really low power. I haven't flashed my eMMC. Could it be helpful to do it? |
Re: N900 Fm-Transmitter doesn´t work.
my problem was the same i tried all frequenzies at different radios and my failure was that the volume was 0 XDDD
|
Re: N900 Fm-Transmitter doesn´t work.
I just discovered that my transmitter also does not work any more. I have used it before and it worked great but now nothing not even a hiss. Could it be because I installed cssu lately for the portrait mode. Maybe it patched something in the settings??

Re: N900 Fm-Transmitter doesn´t work.
I've noticed that people have been having problems with their Nokia N900 not having radio after the PR 1.3 update.
I've managed to get my radio turned back on. Here's how. Please follow the instructions on the following MyNokiaBlog website except flash the necessary .bin files and Z-Image files at the following associated sites: http://mynokiablog.com/2010/06/02/ho...-v10-2010-19-1 Cut and paste into your browser the addresses from where to get the files that will re-enable your N900's built-in radio. RX-51_2009SE_21.2011.38-1.002_PR_COMBINED_002_ARM.bin from http://www.mrcrab.net/Nokia-Product-...ctCode=0580952 RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.13-2.VANILLA_PR_EMMC_MR0_ARM.bin from http://skeiron.org/tablets-dev/nokia...MC_MR0_ARM.bin Download an image to make your N900 faster at 900 mHz -it defaults at 600 mHz. The operative command line is: flasher-3.5.exe -k zImage-900mhz -f -R zImage-900mhz from https://dl.boxcloud.com/bc/2/85c6e52...22cf97928fd9f/ Install the fmradio.install app from Maemo's Repository after you have flashed the N900 with everything else. fmradio.install from http://repository.maemo.org/extras-d...mradio.install |
