N900 charger for the car

Which one do you suggest? dc6 or dc10? Which is yours?

I got a dc6 as the dc10 is some kind of huge and I don't trust the engineering (and it is cheaper). I thought of buying a pin one cause my bt-headset would need that, and use the pin-usb adapter but well don't care about the headset anyway!

Don't get a cheap brand. My cheap charger fried my n900.

Car voltages are notoriously unstable and randomly fry electronics - well worth spending a bit extra and get a decent car charger.

I didn't know about this voltage instability. If I buy the Nokia DC6 can I trust it and be completely sure that the device will not be fried?

I hope yes, if it fries it was the charger nokia said will work. So no out of warranty statement there.

I got the DC10 because it's more powerful than the DC6. The downside is that DC10 is bigger and glows blue.

My vote goes to DC10 as well.

It takes longer to charge. Or, if you use gps navigation at full screen brightness while streaming music from internet over 3.5g, it'll barely keep up :)

When I was looking around, one of the things that I checked was the power output of the charger. Some only output 500mA. The standard Nokia wall charger outputs 1.2A (from memory). The best I could find was in Halfords [uk]. They do a multi-with-lots-of-adapters type charger that outputs 1A :-)

It's also got a retractable cable for easy stowing.

I've been using it for a few months now with no problems at all. It can cope with Music playing over FM and Sygic GPS running at the same time, and still have a small about of juice left to charge the battery.

I would recommend it.

I think it is called the Halfords Ultimate Charger. http://tinyurl.com/38r5wut

Re: N900 charger for the car

I got one from ebay for some 2 to 3 $... it is not for n900 but for black berry... make sure it is 1A as 500mA will not give sufficient charge or worse still it will not be recognised as charger by the n900.
