(latest version is 0.3-6)

Update: 02/07:

0.3-6: Fixed Dependencies + App Manager Icon + Version in TitleBar

Update: 30/06:

0.3-5: Re-added a "start" and a "stop" button in order to enable Multiple Vuvuzela sounds + bigger Vuvuzelas images
0.3-1: One button instead of 2 now + possibility to change colour of Vuvuzela

Update: 29/06:

0.2-7: Fixed what I broke in 0.2-5
0.2-5: First attempt at trying to loop the sound
0.2-3: The app is now in extras-devel, it installs and works fine.

Here's what on my todo list:

-And a menubar with an about button....
-Definitely look into a portrait solution
-Possibility to go full screen

Here's what has been implemented:

-Give possibility to change the image of the Vuvuzela (DONE since 0.3-1 )
-Find a way to loop the audio file (DONE since 0.2-7)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hey,

I've been toying with the idea of publishing an application to Maemo extras-devel (and maybe extras!) for quite a while so I decided to create a "simple" application just to get an idea of the process:

I give you Vuvuzela! :)

The application is pretty straight forward, you can start and stop the playing of the Vuvuzela sound, and even play multiple ones at the same time.
For those of you who aren't familiar with it, just try watching a World Cup game and you soon will understand.

Here's a preview of the application:

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4142/...2fa77e03d4.jpg

There's also the possibility of changing the background colours & the colours of the actual Vuvuzela.
I haven't implemented accelerometers because I'm not a big fan, but if there's hight demand, I can try to give it a go!

Thats all for now but I do intend on adding features along very quickly!

Also, I take no credit for the picture or the sound, both were found on this thread.

I'll bump the thread as soon as my Maemo Extras request gets granted, in the meanwhile, let me know if there's anything you want me to add/change!

Also, it's my 1st app so be nice :D // All written in Python & Pyqt.

How you can help:
- install the app and give me feedback!
- tell me how to get the icons in py2deb working for the App Manager
-help me with this problem (DONE)

Can you remove the squares around the button?

How about having an option of different colored vuvuzelas? or maybe even different types that sound different? Just a suggestion.

Good one.

Why would I need to? "Vuvuzela" is just the name of the South African instrument. Check Wikipedia

But if you come up with a better name, I would be more than happy to change it!

The buttons I used are the standard PyQt ones but you're right they do look quite ugly, Iwill try to look into it!

The sound you provided is cleaner but also much shorter :(

You're not the only one asking me about being able to change the colour of the Vuvuzela. I think it's a great idea!

But I'm not very good with Photoshop/Gimp so I would gladly accept your offer to make them :)

I made nine colours if you want. Orange, Blue, Yellow, Purple, Black, Green, White, Red and Pink.

They are in .png format, so the backgrounds are transparent, and you can choose whatever you like. Please release this app soon, since the world cup is over soon :)

good job El Amir, working great.

But to annoy more people i'd love to hear the sound coming more than one vuvuzela, like youtube one.

Re: [Annouce] (Now in Extras-devel) Vuvuzela - for all you WorldCup/sporting needs!

I like it so far. Could you make an option of adding more than one Vuvuzela? Then you can make the sound overlap each other so that it would be chaos..which I think is the point of the vuvuzela. It would be a mixture of vuvuzelas all playing at the same time.

It is possible to make it for me? :D

Thanks in advance!

This is already kinda built-in, just press the "Start" more than once to cause some serious sound nuisance! :D

It's already in the extras-devel repository, you can check how to add that rep here.

I can always try but what do u mean when you say"black-red-gold", do you mean all these 2 colours at the same time?

He looks like a Germany fan so he is asking for Germany flag as background.

Oh, I'll see what I can come up with but I can guarantee you from now on that I don't have enough space on the screen for a button for each country! :)

Maybe I could include the last 8 still in game?

Let me know what you all think!

Thought I had that enabled, but it was missing a forward slash from the end. Worked beautifully!

El Amir can you make the sound looping in an infinite loop until the user stops it? You can use Audacity to edit the sound. It's very easy to use and it's free:

I'm sad to hear that. What version do you have? The first few I added to the repo had a typo which prevented the app from launching.

I'd suggest you uninstall, refresh the App Manager and install the latest version, which is 0.2-3

Also, if you still want to to run it from the command line,do this:

-> root (be careful what you do now! :) )
-->cd /opt/vuvuzela
--> python vuvuzela.py

Let me know how it goes!

PYQT4 was missing :-)

Just to let you know, I uploaded 0.2-5 a few minutes ago so try updating whenever you can, give it an hour or so.

I've tried to loop the sound so now you can play the Vuvuzela for longer without having to press the button! :)

I know the sound is not perfect but if anyone thinks they can do a better job, please do and post it here so I can update the app

The original file is here

Re: [Annouce] (Now in Extras-devel) Vuvuzela - for all you WorldCup/sporting needs!

An idea you could think about:
Make the app listen for a heavy sound using the mic, so that if you make a sound (goal is to blow in the end), then it starts playing the horn.
Of course you can't make the app listen _only_ for the sound of blowing, but it can be done more or less.

EDIT: You should probably create it as an option, to turn on.

Re: [Annouce] (Now in Extras-devel) Vuvuzela - for all you WorldCup/sporting needs!

There is one on the iphone, it has different flags around the outside (quite small) then a large vuvu in the middle which is coloured depending on the flag you click on.

You could try that.
