[modest] Email is acting up, please Help
Ok I have two email accounts on my N900
a Mobile Me and Verizon from my DSL. I have used both these accounts on my various T-mobile sidekicks over the years with NO ISSUES ever. My N900 is not happy with them? When I open email on my N900 both accounts say last updated 1005 and 1009pm, they always say this time, this is the time of night I set up both accounts. So it always says this time, then it pauses, then it says NO ACCOUNTS, then it updates to the current time when the accounts were last updated???? Then When I try to use the accounts, they are slow, clunkly, constantly refreshing & pretty much unusable most of the time? What am I doing wrong? I deleted both accounts & set them up again.. still the same issue? Thanks for the help :-D |
Re: N900 Email is acting up, please Help
Try setting up only one account, and then do a manual send & receive.

Re: N900 Email is acting up, please Help
No, its no good
I deleted both, restarted, set up one, did it manual, set up the other. Seemed fine.. now its back to acting like it was when 1st set up, then it flashes now accounts, then brings the accounts up, reading my emails is aggrivatingly slow.. always stuck updating? Anyone have anything? I love the phone, but I miss the speed of my T-mobile sidekick checking email. This thing is painfully slow & buggy. I am very tech savy, not some kid. I have gone through everything I can think of. I do not want to sell my phone because i cannot check email on it? Has to be something basic? |
Re: N900 Email is acting up, please Help
its never worked for me for 10 months!
tried every solution, angle, fix going |
Re: N900 Email is acting up, please Help
I guess a re-flash of the N900 is too extreme? So basically the N900 email app is garbage? Should I start looking for another phone?

Re: N900 Email is acting up, please Help
I think you should try this patch, it fixed all my problems with Modest (before it I had problems with updating too).

Little confused, do I unzip the file 1st? I downloaded the path and left it alone (did not unzip it) I put it in root (just drug it to the N900 folder right?) when I typed the code in the terminal it said (no such file?) A little help please & thank you so much! |

Yeah, I tried the patch, no luck, now it wont even send email, everything fails. I might be going back to my sidekick & thats pretty sad... this powerful nokia device cannot even out think my trusty T-mobile sidekick ^ do the most basic task of reading & sending emails? I am really at a loss?

Re: N900 Email is acting up, please Help
I too miss the days of the push email on the sidekick and the IM on there was flawless if you ask me. Just hated the 6mb email inbox limit. But my email has not been sending since yesterday afternoon. My data was acting up til this morning now its seems to be working but my email is a no go. :(

Do we think their will sooner than later be a fix, or are we stuck with what we have? Should I start shopping Android? Although nothing Android and T-mobile has a decent keyboard (sigh) |

Still having email problems right now. Getting emails but when I reply and send it just sits in the outbox and never send.

Re: N900 Email is acting up, please Help
My email is working fine (i.e. fully functional), but for the past several days it has been very slow clicking through the levels of menu. Several seconds delay when I click on "Mail for Exchange" and then several seconds more when I click on "Inbox." Using the crooked arrow button on the upper right to navigate back up the chain happens instantly. I tried slimming down my folder contents and it made no difference. Any thoughts?
I don't think it is T-Mobile network speed...I just tethered my laptop through the phone and got smoking fast speeds (2-4 times what I get through my AT&T 3G aircard). I am connected to an exchange server, and have seen no new delays when connected via outlook or an IMAP client. |

I've rebooted, deleted the account and added it again and still get emails just can't reply won't send. For the life of me I can't figure out whats wrong or could be wrong. I deleted the three apps I installed before the problem started still a no go.

Does this happen only via wifi? or is it a problem you have on any connection? |

Re: N900 Email is acting up, please Help
my only suggestion would be helpful if it was only on wifi you were having problems with ( manually input d.n.s's and ip addresses for your network from isp's access point)... sorry I can't be more help. I will look for a solution. Good luck

Re: N900 Email is acting up, please Help
Yeah, I am still having some issues... I did a re-flash (was stupid easy) ran the updates and backup & now the email is working a little better... but its still very delayed & I get messages sometimes hour or so after they are sent... sometimes longer. Oh well... Ill keep hoping its fixed.. but I am already looking at other phones. Email is just too basic a function for a smart phone.. makes no sense this one cannot pull it off?
Lets see what happens |

Re: N900 Email is acting up, please Help
I have the same problem and feel sick and tire with it, I find the problem may not in the email client but the phone's internet connection. I set up auto retrieval every 5min. and it worked fine until I upgrade to current firmware, now it won't check mail as set, I can't predict when it will check. I see that some time it tried to check mail but the 3G link is not up, I must manually send and receive to do it, so I missed many mail. I've the same problem with older N phone as well, the internet connection did not go up as needed.

Re: N900 Email is acting up, please Help
I have also same problems as eg. lotech.
Mail client wonīt update accounts as scheduled even when connected to network (3G) or it updates accounts and gives new mail announcement something like ones in a month  Manual update is also very slow process usually and when it is done mail client tells theres no new mails wich isnīt true because right after this when I go to check mails on webmail or PCīs client these show several mails that are arrived hours before. Only solution that I have found is disconnet from network and reconnect and voila now N900 mail client will find all those mail. |
Re: [modest] Email is acting up, please Help
And once again my email is not working. Won't send via wifi or 3G. I deleted any new apps I installed before the problem and still a no go. I really think its on nokia messaging end. I can get emails but it wont send. Just say unable to send after about 5 mins. I will give it a few more days to see if it works it self out.
