I just watched this awesome movie called Cube 2: Hypercube. It's about strangers being stuck in a room with exits but eventually every exit lead back to the same room. One guy in the movie hangs himself, for some reason I do to.

Easy answer I know someone has, and that someone is NOKIA. Ask Nokia and see if we can get the proper MeeGo that fully worked on N900 then i'll give it a try.

As much as it is publisised the new pre release of Meego is NOT available from the http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/nokia_N900.php site so where does the OP get this information from? and where is the actual download?.

Yes, it is missing closed components. We have to wait tomorrow for them.

No that's wrong. That's the old CLI/Terminal only image. Note the date: 20100331 < March 31st.

You want meego-handset-armv7l-n900-nokia-closed-1.0.80.8.20100630.ks (June 30th 2010).

It isn't a flashable image.. you have to build it yourself using the mic-image-creator tools.

Nope, it is just the day one release, look at the date on the filename carefully.

As fatalsaint asked, here's the chickens I sacrificed to m-i-c to get it working:


/usr/bin/mic-image-creator --run-mode=0 --cache=cache --format=ubi --arch=armv7l --config=meego-handset-armv7l-n900-nokia-closed-1.0.80.8.20100630.ks

Seems to be going OK so far, better than my other attempts.. we'll see if it's actually usable or not though.. :P

Ha! I haven't paid much attention to this line before. I changed armv5tel to armv7l like you and it downloads something now :)

Ok, slight problem: I'm (reliably) informed that MeeGo won't boot ubifs due to size constraints, so --format=ubi is wrong.

Try --format=raw, and look into micro SD boots.

Status update:

It works! fatalsaint had the honor of being first to boot it, since I don't have a microsd card with me (I'm away from home...)

...but it is very raw. Screen brightness is very low, no way to turn it up, wifi isn't functional, no way to access a terminal, no way to shut the device off, and a lot of unfinished bits of software.

Basically, it's what you'd expect from a developer release. ;)

so w00t, this will create a flashable image like the firmware file or will u be able to get all the rootfs flile and try to boot from mmc? the installaion for ava is more like nitdroid's. will this be something similar?

Flashing is going to be an interesting challenge, not sure how possible that is - yet.

Currently the approach we've taken is to dd to an SD card and boot from that.

I don't want to take pics from a camera... I suppose I could do video from a camera..

On first boot you can't read anything. The screen is so dark you can't read the text.

So I booted back into Maemo, mounted the SD card, and added

Code:
echo 255 > /sys/class/backlight/acx565akm/brightness
to /media/mmc1/etc/rc.local. That fixed that problem. I can now use it.. but you can tell none of the MeeGo dev's have even looked at the N900. This does not function at all like the "first look" video.. when you minimize apps and restore the screen refresh goes fuzzy.. Fennec is all kinds of buggy with constant lines through the screen (even crashed X, which restarted itself, nicely I might add..)

No rotate works, so landscape only. The onscreen keyboard won't close when you take out the physical keyboard.. Power button doesn't work.. Lock does not work... Wifi isn't working..

So yeah... nothing but a fancy blue and yellow guy on my screen :D

These images contain closed software which prohibits redistribution unfortunately.

I'm sure that it will get easier to make them though and hopefully Nokia will put their own images up on tablets-dev soon enough.

I'd like to add, with it being this hard to get working, I'm honestly not surprised. :D
