[tvcatchup app] awesome !

TVC APP created on here a few days ago is fantastic - great so far using it.

Minor issues - entering passwords with Capitals and Numbers from the HW Keyboard do not work (short cuts for numbers ect dont work)

To get around this i used the Software keyboard which worked fine.

Icon for the application - Please ammend and add an Icon so its not displayed as a blue square

Also the application its self is it a quick one off to get us by ? it's great be good to see this well managed and updated - TV Channel Images in the app - can this be done so we can see the channels pictures like on tvcatchup.com.

Thanks,

M

http://www.tvcatchup.com/channels_medium.html only UK channels and they have a sophisticated IP checking algorithm to prevent viewing outside the UK

Re: [tvcatchup app] awesome !

For the audio sync you can use the + and - keys to get it back in sync. I also adjusted the cache in the mplayer options at top to 5000 which seemed to stop the stuttering.
Good little app although I have dbus-switchboard set up to launch vlc to handle the streams direct from the website which seems to handle it better.

I can only get it to play for a few seconds before it freezes. Is this a common problem with a solution?

Wont let me sign up for it, whatever username i try it says the username is already in use or it does not meet the admins requirements?

JonWW 2010-07-04 07:48

Re: [tvcatchup app] awesome !

Jezz as you are in the UK it should work.
Sign up here http://signup.tvcatchup.com/ if that doesn't work check that your IP address is being detected as been in the UK.
My IP address was once with a company called E7 and at one point it was reporting that I lived in Holland, when in fact it was Berks

I can still only get a few seconds of play before it freezes. I don't seem to be able to access mplayer at the top of the screen either, unless that is just an empty banner?

Ctrl + F

Full screen - same again to get out of it from what i've found - compared it next to an iphone and the colours of the football pitch / players looked better on the n900 - sometimes the n900 artifacts for a few seconds.

I get pretty smooth play back on 3G / 3.5G & WiFi

No issues with freezing for me... i've had it on E4 while driving in the holder with FM Transmitter on for sound so i can watch tele in the car when i park up on my travels

Where is the creator of this app ? be good to see the tele channel picture icons used in the list or something.

Ive no used the recording function btw..

I find this app works better quality wise & smoother than the VLC alternative.

when you record how can we play the file??

marcdxn 2010-07-05 15:20

Re: [tvcatchup app] awesome !

When you hit record you get the following pop up which allows you to specify the download location.

http://static.pixelpipe.com/6fcbe9f0...5b1eb426_m.jpg

So for example mine is now set to:

/home/user/MyDocs/.videos/rec.ts

(Recorded video is located in the My Videos section of the My Documents on the N900)

Using file manager i locate the video file (located above)

Hope this helps.

Have installed this and x-term opened and it is just showing rows like:
103: downloaded 2221 bytes
104: etc, etc

It's currently on row 119

Is this normal?

Blocky artifacts are within the video stream as far as I can tell, because the same video stream played on a PC with high speed broadband also displays the same artifacts. While their flash site for the PC has a high quality none blocky stream. If only the mobile stream was the same as the PC version because the N900 is more than capable of playing it.

Here is a high quality stream for BBC parliament channel it's used for IPTV so is TV quality and the N900 can play it fine on a none overclocked system using only 75% CPU

I don't think so - it's all I get though. I've also tried recording, and the resultant file won't play as mplayer can't find a video file. I still need to try copying the file over to my laptop to check it there though.

Incidentally, there's a bug in the /opt/tvcplayer/tvcatchup.sh script where it tries to copy the mplayeropts file from /opt/tvcatcher/mplayeropts, so you'll either need to add a symlink from /opt/tvcatcher to /opt/tvcplayer, or edit the script.

EDIT: The file will play on the laptop (though not with VLC), but mplayer on my other systems can't handle it. It's looks to be an MPEG file containing an H.264 video stream, but no audio.

Mine does run through this script of downloading / caching but it does start playing the stream after 5-6 seconds.

Try another channel to be sure the one your are trying is currently working and also reboot your device to be sure your doing this fresh after an install.

No, it is not normal. Each block should be around 500kb, and it should start playing after 5 or 6. Does it do that every time you try?

Strange. It sounds like it works for many others. Do you have the latest firmware?

Mine was doing the same yesterday, but is working fine today. I'd only tried one channel so there may have just been a fault with the stream at the time.

Hmm the player worked perfectly well yesterday but today just after it says Loading Playlist it closes saying Invalid Playlist File. I tried reinstalling but that didn't help. Any ideas?

They changed the way the website handled cookies, but I have now updated the application so that this should not happen any more. However, it seems that video doesn't work for some channels (for example BBC1) at the moment. I hope that can be fixed by changing the mplayer options, but I haven't found a way yet.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has tried to record via tvc?
when a station is selected eg bbc1 and you set it to record the file does not play back. The file type when i checked it was noted as being a message catalouge. Has anyone managed to record with tvc and get the recording to play?

Re: [tvcatchup app] awesome !

TV Catchup Player used to run really smoothly for me but since getting a replacement device and re-installing its really laggy, the audio and video go out of sync, sometimes the video pauses and the audio is always stuttering meaning you get the beginning and the end of a sentence only.

Its driving me insane, i love this app but even on my home wifi right next to the router im getting issues, anyone else experiencing this? have they increased the quality of the stream or something?

NB: Really sorry to perform such a massive necro but it doesnt seem theres a more current thread on this anywhere.

EDIT: getting between 1 and 6 Mbps

@mrexcess

I've been having same problems for past few weeks too

I've reverted to the tvcatchup mobile web page as i don't think this app is being maintained just now. No doubt it's a case of tweaking the settings but i don't know how.

mrexcess 2011-06-19 19:49

Re: [tvcatchup app] awesome !

yeah i found that and it seems to work better, albeit lower quality.

anyone know who released the tvcatchup player? was it arajantie, they made the origional tv catchup script). Hoping someone will take this on if its been dropped.
