Lol :D Saw it when i was younger, maybe 10 or 12 i think. Thought it was pretty cool back then, but must admit i don't think i would give it much attention now. Could be cool with a Doctor who theme... Just for the fun of it ;)

Yes, but she's actually of legal age (she gets married in the series' finale)

Agree with everyone here that Doctor Who is top TV. I'm glad to see that the last series has been on top form, especially after the 4 specials last year which to me at least were fairly weak.

BTW. If you have not seen it, Torchwood - Children of Earth is some of the best sci-fi to come out of the BBC for years. It's a DW spinoff, so not too off-topic.

agreed. Amy is hot. Best since Rose Tyler.

My fave assistant of all time though is Sarah Jane Smith though, and she's still fit!

Dr Who is about the only show I will sit down to watch anymore.*

For those of us on the other side of the pond, and therefore a season or two behind, Netflix has all but the most recent season on streaming. Used to be I would miss the weekly airing on PBS, now I pull up Netflix and catch all the ones I missed.

The spin off Torchwood is pretty good too.

Favorite episode (lives on my N800): Blink

*TopGear (BBC version of course)

Re: Doctor Who is AWESOME

I actually love the doctor who shows, despite them being fairly terrible sci-fi most of the time.
Blink was truely awesome, but the episode in the last season that revived the angels was terrible (broke every rule we learned about the angels in 'blink')
and the doctor tends to solve problems with a hint of deus ex machina pretty much every episode.

But despite this, I still love watching it, because it is compelling and upbeat and fun.

My favorite doctor, and I have two inordinately long scarves in his honor.

I must admit to not terribly liking Jelly Babies though. I must also admit to not liking the new Doctor Who, but that's just me. Carry on.

Tom Baker was the first doctor that I ever saw, so for me he'll always be the "real" one ;)

Re: Doctor Who is AWESOME

While my first Doctor was 5, I always really liked McCoy's Doctor; not a popular point of view. All three since the Time War have been good; I wish Eccelstone had done another season or so and that Tennant wasn't lumbered with so many soap operatic scripts and (as mentioned above) annoying Deus ex mechinas.

This season has been ace; Smith is awesome as, in other ways, is Gillen... And in the last 2 episodes the character of Rory has really come into his own.

Re: Doctor Who is AWESOME

I preferred the previous Davies seasons to the current one. They were excellent. The current season managed to procure an EXCELLENT cast, though, but the story writing and the theme song for this season sounds seems very sloppy and cheap--it sounds like a step back into the awful 90's version of the theme song with its muffled synth crap sound. The episodes this season DID pick up a little bit of steam as they went along, so there's hope, but on the whole this season wasn't particularly great and certainly not as good as Russel's stuff. (which, in their time, I had found myself able to enjoy immediately in the first season).

Favorite doctor? I find myself still finding that my favorite all-around episodes were the original William Hartnell episodes, although the Doctor I most liked as a personality is probably David Tennant's.

Hey, I remember John Pertwee back in the day.

Thought I was safe from the Daleks 'cause I had an upstairs bedroom and they couldn't climb stairs.

Since they've made them fly I haven't slept a wink...

Re: Doctor Who is AWESOME

You're so right about the theme for this series; which idiot thought it needed some cheap sounding intro?

However, as for the writing, I disagree; RTD's stuff seemed clunky to me in the way Moff's never has. I'll grant you the Silurian episodes weren't great and the Dalek one had such massive plot and pacing problems, but at least it wasn't the Daleks Take Mahattan and did have "WOULD YOU LIKE SOME TEA?"; the WW2 Daleks were an awesome design, a fact highlighted by the gopping iDaleks that replaced them, though these were improved imeasurably by petrification. But, these weren't actually written by Moff, and most of the best episodes of the RTD era (The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances, The GIrl in the Fireplace, Blink, Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead) were.

11th Hour: 9.5/10
Beast Below: 6/10
Victory of the Daleks: 5/10 (gusting 8/10 for Daleks in the Cabinet War Rooms and "Alright, it's a Jammie Dodger; I was promised tea!"...)
Time of Angels/Flesh and Stone: 9/10
Vampires of Venice: 7/10
Amy's Choice: 8/10
Hungry Earth/Cold Blood: 5/10
Vincent and the Doctor: 7/10
The Lodger: 8/10
Pandorica Opens/Big Bang: 9.5/10

Anyway, I wear a fez now. Fezzes are cool...

Actually, you're right. I'm looking at it as a whole--but you're correct about the credit for specific stories. I absolutely HATED Beast Below because of the stupid 'giveaway' at the start with the water glasses. It was stupid. I did LOVE the WW2 Daleks a lot--but their crappy iDalek replacements were hut-wrenchingly awful. I will not accept that crappy design as a Dalek.. even the idea that a race that considers themselves to be so perfect would change in such dramatic style and assign themselves names and departments completely ruins continuity. This isn't like the Cult of Skaro, here. It appears as if these are going to be the norm for the Daleks from here on out. Disappointingly bad decisions.

Heheh... I looooved those scenes. Also... Riversong has been an EXCELLENT character from her first appearance. Her actress seems pretty good for the role, too.

Only vid i've transferred to my N900 is a DW episode. :)

That said, i'm not all that familiar with the series as a whole, but i have been watching long enough to find that last comic funny.

Re: Doctor Who is AWESOME

'Three' was my first Doctor (not sure why I didn't watch the first two - suspect Mummy thought I was too young) but 'four' was the Doctor who made an impression. Just the thought of that white frilly shirt and the trousers tucked into his boots makes me feel all unnecessary.

Of the new series, I thought Eccleston was gorgeous (christophereccleston.net is hosted on my server space) while Tennant took a while to grow on me. I was ambivalent about whether a youngster like Smith could carry off the role, but overall I think he did a good job. Karen Gillan acts well, but I find her terribly annoying in 'confidential' for some reason.

The latest series was good in that I enjoyed the arc - though it got a bit thin when that crack just grinned at the end of every ep. For me 'The Beast Below' was the most difficuly plot-wise, as there seemed to be stonking great plot-holes. By comparison, I could overlook the gaps in Churchill Meets the Daleks for sheer love of "WOULD YOU LIKE SOME TEA".

I found the ending vaguely unsatisfying, and yet amusing. People saying what a relief not to have the kitchen sink in the finale... only every enemy the Doctor has ever faced. And how much better not to have a silly, impossible emotional resolution - as if 'remembering people back' is any better than everyone thinking 'Doctor' all at once revitalising him. I do like having Amy and Rory along though - nice change in dynamic after all that soppy stuff.

... but I thought the "Something old, something new, something borrowed, something BLUE" was inspired.

Now looking forward to the new Torchwood - I don't get out much...
