Re: strange n900 behaviour
Nobody had this or got a solution??
Is it possible to do a hard reset or will i need to re-flash??? |
Re: strange n900 behaviour
try both, or try to restore to the theme you were originally using
|
Re: strange n900 behaviour
How do you do a hard reset???
|
Re: strange n900 behaviour
what apps have you installed?
|
Re: strange n900 behaviour
i havent installed any from devel, have got a few on like.
it happened when i removed my menu, now i cant get into app manager to re-install |
Re: strange n900 behaviour
There is no "hard reset". You will need to reflash if you've broken something in x-terminal.
|
Re: strange n900 behaviour
If you have root shell installed you can do
Code:
root |
Re: strange n900 behaviour
No good, cant access xterminal either!!!!

Re: strange n900 behaviour
[disclaimer] this might be fatal to your device!!![/disclaimer]
Code:
sudo gainroot |
Re: strange n900 behaviour
has anybody else tried that bit of code??

so reflash is the only option now afaik |
Re: strange n900 behaviour
You should be able to start the backup tool from xterminal
its called osso-backup so type Code:
osso-backup I suggest just flash the root img (do not flash your eMMC! just the bare root image!) afterwards, the only things getting lost are installed programs as stuff like address-book and stuff are stored in the eMMC get not flashed (means you are more or less safe to flash without a backup). http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_firmware |
Re: strange n900 behaviour
Even if you haven't installed rootsh, the gainroot command works if the N900 is running in R&D mode. The same flasher program that is used to reflash the firmware can also set this mode so you might want to try it before reflashing. I believe that this feature is only available in the Linux version of the flasher program, but you could run it from a Linux live CD if you don't have a Linux machine handy. The commands are:
Code:
sudo ./flasher-3.5 --enable-rd-mode -R Code:
sudo ./flasher-3.5 --disable-rd-mode -R http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_tablet_firmware I don't recall where R&D mode is documented, but a search of the wiki and forum would find more information. I hope this helps you. |
Re: strange n900 behaviour
tried osso-backup
opens backup utility but when i select restore nothing happens?? |
Re: strange n900 behaviour
Sod it, will just re-flash tonight!!

Re: strange n900 behaviour
I suppose it's a long shot, but if you by any chance happen to have ssh installed you could get root through that. Do "ssh root@your.ip.address" from a remot linux computer (there are ways to use ssh in windows as well, but I'm not familiar with them). It will prompt for the rootpassword, which was set during install. You could then try to install my menu as mentioned above.

Re: strange n900 behaviour
