bluetooth connection

has anyone tried to bond a MPX220 smartphone to the 770? everytime i try, the 770 says: "The selected phone does not support file transfer. It can only be used for dial-up networking." this is fine, but the MPX220 at this point states: "...the connection failed or the passkey is incorrect." has anyone elserun into this problem?
thanks!

The bluetooth pairing is only for a short time. Once you send the passkey from the 770, enter it immediately on your smartphone.

As for file transfer, the 770 only supports only a few that you can use file manager to browse its contents with. I guess the MPX220 is not supported.

Different BT question -- USB BT adapter?

There's no wireless at my office.

If I use a USB Bluetooth adapter with my WinXP laptop connected (by cable) to the company network, will I be able to access the internet from the 770?

I called the manufacturer tech-support (pre-purchase) and the best info I could get was that the software to do this would have to come from Nokia.

Anyone able to say whether this works or not?

Thanks,

Roger

Roger I had the same idea today because wireless in our office was down and I couldn't connect to any of the *many* other networks that show up. I have a Mac Mini with a Bluetooth adaptor for an Apple Bluetooth Keyboard that I use in my office, so I thought I'd try that. The devices saw each other; when I entered the pairing code, I got a message from the 770 that the Mini wasn't compatible - sorry I didn't write down the error message exactly. I haven't given up, but I don't really know much about Bluetooth.

Hmm-m-m.

Theoretically, it shouldn't be any different than a PDA surfing the net using your desktop's internet connection.

But putting Apple or Linux into the mix sure does make predicting whether it will work (or figuring out exactly which part didn't work in your case) complicated.

Tsk Tsk. A moderator hijacking a thread? ;)

I stumbled across this earlier in my discoveries, so I can't remember the source.

IIRC (oh, not that again) - The 770 is performing service discovery for something that is standard on a phone, but not implemented on computer BT connections. I would look for a dev to fix this in the near future, or load up linux and follow these directions:

Edited to add:
Maybe not: https://maemo.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=207
What an unfortunate response.

that what i thought at 1st, but no matter how fast i do it, it gives the same error. even tried to go through control panel, but the same thing happens.

Looks more like the answer is at RealNitro's blog (mentioned in the thread you referenced):

http://blog.eikke.com/index.php/real...a_770_over_blu

Bit complicated, it looks to me. Plus you've got to be root.

I'll be taking this slowly, one step at a time, for sure.

I have the exact same problem with my audiovox smt5600

Maybe there is a problem pairing with windows mobile 2003se phones. I have a nokia 3650 cell and it paired up immediatly with the 770. but no luck with the smt5600

Nokia 3650 and files

can you see any folders in the nokia 3650 cell after it paired up with the 770. I cannot?

airbillion 2005-12-10 18:39

I can't view files on 3650 either.

I don't think the 3650 has the bluetooth service that allows other bluetooth devices to see the files on it. There might be a way through a 3rd party application, but I'm not 100% sure.
Disappointingly I can't even pair my audiovox smt5600 with the 770, I think it is because the smt5600 OS is MS mobile 2003se. Anyone elese have any ideas?

psj 2005-12-10 19:47

the link shows that this 3650 behaviour is known.

frustrating!!!

I have a mac (more than one, actually). Doing what you want would require the mac the behave as a bluetooth modem. While this is theorically possible, I don't think the software exists (but could be written).

Another possibility is to use wifi. Create an "ad-hock" network between the 770 and the mac and tell the mac to route packets. That should be much easier.

Smartphone bonding...

After gaining root and bonding from there my MPX220 finally bonded. then to get fiie transfer, i had to go to the file mnager, hit menu, send & recieve, recieve bluetooth file and transfer is functional while recieve is active. (will ask you after x amount of time if you would like to deactivate) the only thing i cant do iis use my smartphone to go online with the 770. (on a side note, i tried 2 moto vxxx phones and it says service discovery is not available. anyone able to bond to standard moto phones?)

airbillion 2005-12-11 15:43

I'll give that a try.

Thanks for the info. I'll try gaining root and pairing from there. Is there a tutorial you know of on how to do that?

Yes, there is. Any info you need can be found at www.maemo.org

here is the direct link to gain root:

While reloading my 770, I ran into a problem with paring that perhaps is somehow related. Late in the paring process, the phone says they are paired but I got the message "Service discovery failed". I simply kept pressing the "Ok" button, maybe a dozen times? Seems crazy, but worked for me.

Not fixed in 5.2006.13-7

The 5.2006.13-7 software update apparently does not have the MPX220 aka Windows Smartphone fix that was discussed on maemo.org.
