The Best
I have a theory; the things I carry with me on a daily basis must be the BEST for me.
For example; Watch (Breitling/Rolex), wallet (Louis Vuitton), sun glasses (Oliver Peoples), cigarette lighter (Porsche/Colibri), keychain (Tiffanys), and most importantly cell phone (N900). Now you might think it is silly to carry a $200 keychain with you; however this keychain from Tiffanys is perfect when you are wearing sweatpants with no pockets and it has a little opening where you can just slide it right onto the elastic of the sweatpants. If I have to deal with something every waking hour - I would like it to be the best possible product for me. Here is a list of every cell phone I have owned in the past 10+ years: Motorola V66 - Crap. Sony Ericsson T616 - Good at the time. Samsung SGH-c207 - Worst phone ever. Nokia 3120 - Loved this phone, and the simplicity of it. Motorola V3 RAZR - Decent, slow. (I heavily modified it, I was the first to create a custom font for it) Nokia 8801 - Loved the form factor (the sliding is really what did it for me) and quality along with the simplicity. Apple iPhone (first Gen) - Returned after 4 days. Apple wanted a $50 restocking fee. Nokia 8801 - Loved the form factor (the sliding is really what did it for me) and quality along with the simplicity. Nokia 8600 Luna - Nokia gave me this for free when the battery went out on my 8801, liked it a lot - not as much as the 8801 but the camera was better along with the display - but the sliding locking mechanism wasn't nearly as good as the 8801. I have used many phones for a week or so at a time, such as Apple iPhone 3GS, Blackberry, Nokia E71, etc. but I have not relied upon them as my main communications device. After technology started moving ahead into [actually functional] smart phones I knew I didn't want a Windows Mobile phone, I am with AT&T so I couldn't get a Android based phone (even if I wanted to, which I didn't), and I really dislike so many things about the iPhones (I have had A LOT of experience with every iPhone besides the newest one and I despise them all, and Apple in general). But a time came when I was backed into a corner. It was either the Nokia N97 or bite the bullet and get an iPhone 3GS. I needed to be in touch and mobile phone software was catching up to my Samsung Q1U UMPC. Then the Nokia N900 was released, I had a meeting in NYC a week after it was released, I changed my flight to fly into JFK and my first stop was the Nokia Flagship Store the day after the N900 was released to test it out. I fooled around with it for a bit and now I have to say it is the best mobile device I have ever laid my hands on. I am so incredibly pleased with my N900, even though it does have it's faults - there's nothing that comes even close to it. However, technology is advancing processors are getting better and more efficient, display resolution is getting better, camera quality is increasing, etc. Truthfully, I have no clue what I will do when the N900 is too outdated for me. Nokia has been the only company that I have been completely pleased with every product I have purchased from them. My dream is a Nokia N910, better camera, 1.2GHz+ processor that is more efficient in terms of battery life, better display resolution, xenon flash, 850MHz, same form factor, and of course better software that is just as open (the list can go on). But I have a bad feeling I will be using the N900 when the iPhone 5 rolls around the corner. I truthfully don't know what I will do then. I really hope Nokia picks up the ball! I don't know that much about MeeGo, but I like Maemo 5... a lot. I know all of you are pretty passionate about your mobile devices - nothing on the market right now seems appealing AT ALL compared to the N900, what do you think you will do? P.S. I am on AT&T when I am in the states - that means my N900 is on EDGE. Still in love. |

Re: The Best
Haha ysss, I think its pretty cool actually. It's sort of an aesthetic and attention to detail thing.
Even if I couldn't afford some of the things (and I mean afford to lose:D) I still have a clear idea of what I want. Also agree with paying a premium for discernible benefit in things you spend the most time with i.e my computer seat, sofa, my mobile, my UMPC, my monitor, my bed |
Re: The Best
Haha, have you seen American Psycho? Brilliant movie.. I just didn't expect anyone to be a conscious real life embodiment of Patrick Bateman :D
I think Patrick would carry a Vertu... or a 'bone' iPhone 4. |
Re: The Best
Yeah, but I read the book first. I know his character was a satire but it was so compelling to read!
Although I think Bateman was more exclusivity over substance so definitely a Vertu, hehehe |

I m really OCD about these things that I have to deal with every second - I also look just like Christan Bale (or so I am told) so my buddies pick on me.

Re: The Best
@imperial: lol, I felt like a lame @ss citing the movie instead of the book. I thought the movie was done very well though (less the ambiguity in the end). Brilliant visuals.

Re: The Best
I have fake, not cheap (but virtually identical) Tag, Rolex and Breitling replicas. Not for their chronographic functions or their fine construction. But because they look so good!

Sorry but the best keychain is this:

http://www.hypebeast.com/image/2009/...y-keychain.jpg I use that - one of the balls at the end is threaded and comes off to add or remove keys. Since I do not remove any keys and I don't want the ball coming off EVER. I use Locktite (the same product I use for many of my firearms that have screws) to secure it in place to make sure none of my keys will be lost. The horse shoe design makes it easy to tuck my big BMW key into my sweatpants and then put the open end of the horse shoe over the elastic thus giving it a pretty secure and tight fit. Perfect for the gym when the pocket of my sweat pants are on the seam and everything falls out when you sit down. I had a lot of cars before (4+) and 2 homes, it was not logical for me to have that key chain - thus I had one like yours. But I found it bulky even when I removed many things. Point being if I have to deal with it every waking moment - it is worth it. If you think in the manner of, "Every second I am not aggravated with this product I will pay a penny for it" then you will realize that many products that you carry are worth the money, such as a LV wallet - going on 7 years of owning it now and looks brand new. |

The house key is probably the most valuable possession so I always keep it guarded e.g

The iPhone 4 is the best for MANY people, but most definitely not for me. I would take the N900 over the N9 as I see the specs currently. http://www.louisvuittonemall.com/lou...vesTitanic.htm |

Re: The Best
Wow, you guys go way off topic. Did anyone even answer his question yet? I suppose it is more interesting to talk about all the other gadgets in this thread than try to predict the future. Who knows what Nokia will do. But it seems meego will have at least one phone released, lets just pray they give it an amoled screen, slim it down a bit, and don't screw up anything we are taking for granted. I really like android for its google apps integration, and iphone for its large number of apps, but I would never buy an apple product, they make me sick. Android is okay, but anything that I have to root pisses me off because you never know what might happen. You're relying on the manufacturer screwing up and leaving a way to do that, and not fix it in future updates either. Not to mention someone has to discover this vulnerability and package it in a way that doesn't cause too much headache to install...
So, yeah, keep an eye on meego and pray that it catches on. If not, well, all this stuff like skype, wimax and google voice is going for the balls of the cell phone companies so there will definitely be some alternatives to their lame networks in the next few years. Chances are we can get another style of device for communicating if the stupid government doesn't give them a monopoly on everything. Now, back to off topic ranting! I have a few Colibri lighters and they definitely look the best, and work great, for a while anyways. I really like this one called "trident" that has all 3 types of flames, but I seem to break the top off it after a few months. Those things are a bad example, but they make like 50 different types, I probably shouldn't buy that exact one if it keeps breaking on me. LOL. I tried calling them to complain but their Canadian customer service was a French answering machine. Heh. My point is supposed to be that I actually agree with you in general. I don't even smoke cigarettes, just knowing that a Colibri lighter is refillable and looks like 100x better than a cheap plastic one makes it worth it. I think that smart people do their research and often are correct when they say you have to spend the extra money to get the best value or satisfaction or quality or whatever. There's always a cheap knockoff of everything out there, and unless you're malnourished or something it's probably worth spending the extra cash. |

Offtopic: For me the N9 would have to have 1.2Ghz processor (with overclocking ability of course), 1Gb RAM (not virtual memory), larger screen (at least 3.8, no bigger than 4.2 :P), at least 8MP camera (10MP would be ideal), hardware keyboard, HDMI out, and camera lens cover (I love the one on the N900) for me to consider it. Things I would take into consideration are capacitative screen (N900's resistive works just fine) and slimmer design (the N9 is still an internet tablet, what do you expect?) As for Meego it had better be just as open as Maemo and not dumbed down, otherwise I would stick with the N900 for quite some time |
Re: The Best
@Creamy Goodness: no amoled screen. yes, they give brighter screen, but not good under direct sunlight and in general, they degrade overtime(self-destruct if you will) -- may be there are better tech now to prevent the self-destruct feature...but I won't want amoled on anything I buy if I can help it.
