Transmission v2.03 for Nokia N900
There is an older version of Transmission software. However, that seems to have lots of bugs & issues on the N900.
Recently Transmission has released v2.03. I have a request if the developers of the older Transmission can work on this new version 2.03 and give N900 users a stable & good software for downloading torrents with pause & resume facility.. The website for Transmission software is: http://www.transmissionbt.com/ The download page has all the source code & relevant download files: http://www.transmissionbt.com/download.php Kindly update with the possibilities of a Good Torrent downloader for the N900 !! |
Re: Transmission v2.03 for Nokia N900
All the experts & developers on Maemo.org, is this possible ??
|
Re: Transmission v2.03 for Nokia N900
it is the work of one dev
http://talk.maemo.org/member.php?u=9523 when i asked him for an update in january (i was looking to add 'make torrent' as a feature), he said he wouldnt be revisiting it 'for awhile' |
Re: Transmission v2.03 for Nokia N900
So isnt there anyone else who can work on this, especially considering this community has a large pool of very good developers & experts..
I am definitely sure this will be a very very useful application for many N900 users.. |
Re: Transmission v2.03 for Nokia N900
for as much as i use it, the old version works fine. sometimes it goes crazy on CPU tho

Re: Transmission v2.03 for Nokia N900
Great Optx - not a heavy user of transmission but would love a newer version which fixes some of the issues.

how soon will the app be ready ??
|
Re: Transmission v2.03 for Nokia N900
I have to wonder if just bumping it to 2.03 will really "magically" fix all the troubles the previous version had on the N900 (I have my own doubts). Remember that same version worked very well on the N8x0....

Re: Transmission v2.03 for Nokia N900
Little bit offtopic, but today I did firmware upgrade to my Argosy media player. The new firmware now have BitTorrent client that I'm testing right now... It has a web server interface that I do access from my computer with a web browser. The firmware is GPL, so it is possible to port the BitTorrent part to N900? If nothing else, just for the sake of having fun... :) In addition there may be some cool bitsfor media decoding too. (It plays pretty much all media formats...)
The firmware source code can be loaded here: http://www.argosy.tw/mana_php/prod/file/HV335T_GPL.zip |
Re: Transmission v2.03 for Nokia N900
its all upto Optx & other dev to see if it helps..

Re: Transmission v2.03 for Nokia N900

Re: Transmission v2.03 for Nokia N900
THX for the Info's :)
I know now where to start (THX to javispedro :)) Looks like this is something that takes time for a noob like me :o but i allready started to read about how this is done. Will have a look @ this gui also, but i think it would be better to run just Transmission imho. Edit : I used the webui from Transmission itself :) Looks like this : http://i.imagehost.org/0968/screenshot23.png http://i.imagehost.org/0600/screenshot25.png http://i.imagehost.org/0413/screenshot30.png http://a.imagehost.org/0305/screenshot28.png http://i.imagehost.org/0815/screenshot33.png Works real nice, and it is easy going :) Slowdowns are still here, just a short time till it gets back up, but still here. Dont know how this was b4. I set this whole thing up that it looks @ a specific folder for .torrents, So just need to download the file, rest is done by transmission. Since it will take a while to get into this hildonize stuff, i could make a howto for this one if somebody wanna test it :) |
Re: Transmission v2.03 for Nokia N900
There is one more link I found which could help (maybe you already referred to this)

Is it possible to download torrents directly from a web browser like we do on the pc?? And how soon are you gonna upload it on Maemo for testing?? |
Re: Transmission v2.03 for Nokia N900
personally transmissions worked like a charm for me since i switched downloads to the sd card and tweaked a couple of settings, are there any major improvements in the new version other than hoping it'll fix (for those who find it broken at least) some issues?

you want to download, and save it to a folder. Transmission looks in that folder for files and add them automatic. So it is just downloading, rest is done by transmission. As i told, it will take some time to make it work the way like qwerty12 did it. Im new to this "hildonisation" stuff and have to read and try some stuff. When this is done, i will talk to qwerty12 and we will see what we do :) For now i can make a package with all files and a howto, so it can be done easy without donwloading it from maemo, if you like. @ festivalnut, here you can see, what was done since 1.75 : Changes Can you please share your tweaks ? |
Re: Transmission v2.03 for Nokia N900
im totally waiting for this new release :)

Re: Transmission v2.03 for Nokia N900
I suggest starting from qwerty12's build, since I really doubt his changes are the cause of the I/O weirdness. (Unless 1.0 -> 2.0 Gtk+ UI changed too much).

Re: Transmission v2.03 for Nokia N900
Pack is ready to hit the road.
Remember: This is still early beta but looks like working ok so far. One thing i dont get is that the N900 wants to update this version (2.03-1) version with the older (1:1.76-1maemo0) I made also a little install script. Howto (rootsh is needed) : 1. Get the AIO-Pack from here : AIO-Pack 2. Unzip it, and put the files (install.sh & transmission.tar.gz) in the same folder on your N900 via usb. I've used the download folder in MyDocs. You can create even a new folder if you like to. 3. Open Terminal and type root !!! root can harm your N900, even brick it, if you do something wrong !!! 4. Change to the directory where you put the two files. cd /path/to/files/... (cd /home/user/Mydocs/download, in my case) 5. Type sh install.sh and wait for the script to be done. 6. Close Terminal You should now have 2 new transmission icons (red+green) to start/stop the deamon in the background. Once it is started, wait a short time, then open the browser and type http://127.0.0.1:9091. Now you should be able to use transmission from the GUI. If you want to download a torrent, just save the .torrent file inside /home/user/MyDocs/torrent. The deamon itself watches this folder, and adds it automaticly. Some settings can be changed in the lower left corner. Thats it. I hope this is explained well enough :) edit : changed AIO file, was not working... sorry !! |
Re: Transmission v2.03 for Nokia N900
Thx OptX !! It has been wonderful work by you so far.. Will test the files soon..

Re: Transmission v2.03 for Nokia N900
Hey optx.. what is the progress as far as a complete version is concerned.. so far this seems to work fine, except it requires some fine tuning..
