Alternative housing for my n900?

NOT looking for a case or face plate. Looking for a full housing alternative. Different colors or materials. If any one could point me in the right direction.

Don't know about a full housing, but apparently there are chrome-look bezels on ebay.

I thought N900 would look good in white - maybe Nokia will release one for the far eastern markets before they discontinue it. A white shell would be easier to paint.

Depending on what kind of spray paint he used, it is almost guaranteed to rub off ad look awful or loose the color within a yrs time :/

I have to admit that I'm a bit skeptical after seeing those cases. Reminds me of the Sega Dreamcast replacement shells that were somewhat sub-par. Anybody has any experience with them?

I did buy one black one as it was easier and cheaper than dealing with *cough* Nokias *cough* excellent customer warranty service. All I need is the replacement battery cover, but I bought a whole housing.

I know its sittting at my office, if no one else responds I'll tell you how it fits next time I go there.

Re: Alternative housing for my n900?

Just looked at the housing I bought at:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=260605406532

Definitely not the same quality as Nokia's own, but not too far from it. Perfectly acceptable when it's hard to get your hands on OEM Nokia housing. Nokia should make it easier to get OEM replacement parts.

As my problem is with the battery cover then I can say that the lens cover on the chinese knockoff is more stiff to slide, but feels not weaker than the OEM.

Of course the only real test will be how it will hold up in the end.

But not a bad housing for $14.

I could knit you a little phone sock in maemo.org colours? Don't think that's quite what you were thinking of, though...

Well. The quality of the plastics are really good, no sign of spray painted :p. The inside housing also is strong, the keypad came with the letters a "bit" larger  than the original. For the rest I'm really in love again with my N900 now in White Version. :)

I Forgot to tell that these 2 parts shown in the picture I replaced them with the original ones, which have the metal contacts for the Antenna and GPS respectively. The one that came with the housing were only plastics and when assembled I didn't have Signal!

Re: Alternative housing for my n900?

I ordered a N900 housing from ebay and I have a few issues with it.

Power/Volume buttons.
The power and volume buttons do work, but the power button is not mounted properly and sticks out quite far on one side. This makes it quite easy to power off the phone when it is in in my pocket. Not a huge problem but a good enough reason for me to not use it.

LCD/Screen bezel mount.
This part does not include a magnet. I tried to use the original magnet but there is not enough room for the the LCD module during reassembly. Without this magnet you loose keyboard back lighting. I would recommend to not bother messing around with this part and assemble the phone with the original one.

Keyboard.
My keyboard had very poor tactile feedback. Often one keystroke would produce one or two extra keystrokes. The right side of they keyboard was worse than the left. After disassembling and reassembling the phone three times, I realised it was not an alignment issue but the keyboard itself. The delete key on mine did not work at all.

Antenna Mounts.
The included antenna mounts did not include electrical contacts for the antennas. This has been mentioned before. Throw them away they are useless.

Battery cover.
The battery cover is missing all three magnets. This was the biggest let down for me. Without the magnets the camera will not launch when the lens cover open. The phone also will always think the battery cover is off, disabling the micro SD card slot. To top it off the lens cover spring broke after less than a dozen uses.

I was smart enough to throw the antenna and speaker mounts in the garbage. The LCD/screen bezel mount, Keyboard, and battery cover was a bit disappointing. Hopefully my experience will help others.

I am going to return the keyboard, LCD mount, antenna mounts, and battery cover. The ebay seller has told me they are defective and will replace the parts. I am sure the replacement parts will not be any better.

Re: Alternative housing for my n900?

Hello. I plan to buy a new housing for N900, but when I have opened the housing, I noticed that my N900 original case have a lot of metal contacts inside, which the new one does not. I know about battery cover, but it seems not so important to me, and probably could be fixed.

First of all, I have noticed, hat the non-original case does not have a metal contact where the reset switch is. Reset will not work?
And then, it has a lot of metal contacts around the perimeter, which seems to be antennas etc.

Is it possible to make it ALL work with new housing? Thank you.
