Great so my phone won't charge anymore
the USB slot in the phone is a little crooked. The USB still fits in it, but doesn't charge it. What the heck can I do now :/

Re: Great so my phone won't charge anymore
I had a similar thing happen. What worked for me is, when you got the cord in the phone, bend it up slightly at the port. That got my phone charging again.

I am having similar problems but mine will only charge via the USB port of a computer and not from the wall charger which is odd. Either way, call up Nokia Care and start the process. |

Well where can I get there number that can help me locally?

Re: Great so my phone won't charge anymore
The usb port fell out because the charger /usb connection fits too tightly into the phone. Because it was so tight, the constant pushing and pulling into the usb port made it fell out over time due to friction.
To avoid this problem users have to shave the usb chargers to be a bit smaller so that it wont fit so tightly into the usb port. Shaving down the usb charger would allow it to fit into the usb port more smoothly, thereby preventing the usb port from completely falling out. I would have warned you sooner, but from the minute you said it stopped charging, I knew it was too late. Hope all goes well with your replacement / repair. It's not impossible to fix, just needs someone to solder the port back into place. As others here have said, try nokia care, and if that fails, get a real techy to solder it back into place. |
Re: Great so my phone won't charge anymore
Oh man what a load of dumm advice on this thread.

Re: Great so my phone won't charge anymore
Another big problem. It looks like the USB slot fell out and I lost it. Will Nokia still accept to repair or give me a new damn phone since it's their fault the stupid **** broke off in the first place?
|
Re: Great so my phone won't charge anymore
I don't think losing it makes any difference.

Re: Great so my phone won't charge anymore
You can get the phone number from the nokiausa.com website. This happened to me as well. I got a brand new phone (but no new battery or accessories) and it took about a week to turn it around. It was all very simple and they paid for shipping both ways but it was not possible to initiate the return via the website. I had to call and speak to a rep.

Re: Great so my phone won't charge anymore
If you really need your phone right now and don't want to visit repair Limbo, just buy an external battery charger. They are cheap and I think it's better to charge that way. That doesn't solve the problem that you need a working USB port, and it might take awhile till the external charger comes. Buy some spare batteries while you're at it.

Re: Great so my phone won't charge anymore
I had a different problem (my phone would not charge or sync - not a broken connector).
Checked http://www.nokiausa.com/get-support-...epair-warranty and found out the unit was under warranty. I then went to http://www.nokiausa.com/get-support-...repair-locator, plugged in the serial number and the ZIP code, hit "enter" and filled out the repair form (bottom of next page). I mailed the unit to the Nokia repair center. I received a note from Nokia stating my phone was beyond repair, and they sent me a brand new one. Only problem: You MUST have a USA address (NOT A PO BOX). In my case, US Address in Niagara Falls NY ( www.usaddressinc.com) helped out. They charged me USD 5.00, but I had to drive over there to pick it up. Oh well, a cheap(er) tank full of gas at the Indian reservation (Smokin' Joe's) and a good meal at Apple Granny's in Lewiston made it all worth-while. HTH! |
Re: Great so my phone won't charge anymore
So mine is starting to get loose, got to give it a few jiggles and hold it completely still, and I can get it to charge, already have an external adapter and have a spare battery, but Id like to have my usb in tact, would shaving it down resolve the issue?

Re: Great so my phone won't charge anymore
Anyone reading this thread here is some good advice.
DONT ever attempt to bend or apply pressure on the usb port because it is so badly soldered to the main board it only takes a little bit of pressure to break completely off the board !!!!. If your device is for whatever reason either out of warranty or you dont want to send back to Nokia then the only thing to do preferably BEFORE it breaks off the board is to open up the device take out the board and if you look carefully at the fixing for the usb port you will see it is only attatched to 4 tiny pads that holds it in place on the MB. There you will see the very reason NOT to wiggle or force or apply any pressure whatsoever to the usb port untill you scrape away the paint on the MB and literally solder the 4 fixing points properly giving the port a far better hold on the board. For those who have broken the port clean off the board then you will have to trace back all the 5 data tracks and solder links to the nearest point on the board from the 5 data pins on the rear of the port or socket itself. this is no easy task i can tell you unless you are used to working with fine link wire or very thin wire. After you have soldered the 4 tabs ( 2 either side ) then you will find the problem will never return as long as you scrape away enough paint to get a real proper fix on those 4 tiny "posts". I give you this advice after repairing and doing many preventative repairs on this ballsup by Nokia and it works every time if you take your time and be careful, remember to use a fine pointed soldering tip (i use a weller soldering station) and flux. If in any doubt then either give to an engineer to repair or send back to Nokia with or without the port attatched as they will indeed replace your unit's M/B. DONT NEVER BEND OR APPLY PRESSURE TO THIS PORT AS IT WILL BREAK 100% SURE OF THAT SO BE WARNED !!!!!. NB. Please be aware that even if your device is out of it's one year warranty that the faulty design on the usb port is in fact NEVER out of warranty and will be repaired/replaced by Nokia at any point in time, just be persistant and never accept it is your fault in any way and that this IS A DESIGN FAULT recognised now by the maker Nokia. |
Re: Great so my phone won't charge anymore
No doubt the hundreds of issues many users, including myself, are having with the phone resetting, not being able to charge up, or giving out constant "not charging" messages, could well be heavily related...
I know if I move the miniUSB cable (gently-near the phones end) whilst connected to the mains, the orange charge light will flicker quickly (even when the screen is on)- surely indicating a weak usb connection (or lead), but from the outside at least there doesnt seem to be any damage, and I havent been using the phone for that long either (or dropped it accidentally).... could a damaged miniUSB connection that is only visible from the inside be causing the phone to also reset and not be able to gauge exactly how charged up it is? its sounding more likely, with the more complaints I read of on here.. but one that may be difficult to solve unless your a bit of a techie/electrician ;) !! :( |

Even if you get a dry joint anywhere on the usb port connector it will give random weird results also a non or open cirkit charge will make your device turn off and attempt to restart when the battery drops in voltage as the proc goes dumb through lack of supply voltage. I reccomend to anyone who does not for any reason want to send the device back for repair to open it up and solder down all the connections on the usb port making sure you scrape away the paint on the pcb around the 4 earthed posts to get a lot more solder on the 4 posts holding the usb port to the board. Do this BEFORE it goes wrong and you will not have problems like the rest of the world are having with there's. |
Re: Great so my phone won't charge anymore
If you open up the phone and attempt a repair, or look at it and think *Actually I'll leave it alone* when you send it back to Nokia, does opening the phone automatically invalidate the warranty and therefore they wont repair or replace it?
If they do decide to send you a brand new phone, what would be the best way of obtaining a final backup before its sent off? This very problem happened to me on sunday, and I've been in touch with a local Nokia Authorised repair centre, who said to bring the phone in for a quote on the repair, but I dont like the idea of loosing personal text messages and telephone numbers if they decide to replace it. Can anyone recommend any advice? Thanks |

@james174 - wouldn't a standard backup through pc suite save your contacts and messages? |
Re: Great so my phone won't charge anymore
if your usb still feels quite solid but are still getting not charging messages, get a sharp scalpel, needle, magnifying glass and good light source.
GENTLY try removing all the fluff and stuff from the connector, i got loads out of mine, it had all got compacted in from being in pockets, and then pushing in with the usb plug. i found a bit was sticking up over one of the connectors, gently flicking it out, and giving it a quick blow fixed that for me. maybe your problem? |
