Facebook has now gone Flash 10.1 (Video does not work. Flash update required.)
 

Just thought i would be the bearer of bad new's all my videos that i have sent to facebook via the phone or uploaded via the PC i cannot watch anymore on my N900s MicroB or FireFox as it requires me to update flash. :(

Maybe its just my phone or somthing but everyone better check it out and see if im correct.

Did u read what i wrote mate? Tell me son how does one click on a youtube link if i have directly uploaded videos to Facebook? Does it magically appear on Youtube does it?

I think they're requiring Flash 10.0.0.0 and not 10.1.0.0 (or higher) - that's what Vimeo and a lot of other sites are doing right now.

? I have always uploaded to youtube and linked to fb, what A waste of time that was.. I don't really use it that much as you can tell X)

First off **** 'em.

Secondly, I have a workaround.

But it's not elegant and doesn't work for videos in albums (at present anyway)

Requirements:
* firefox ("minefield" NOT fennec)
* Facebook Video firefox extension (alternatively you may be able to use the port of Greasemonkey and the original greasemonkey script in conjunction with MicroB but I haven't tested it)
* mplayer (or any other video player that can FLV; osso-mediaplayer does not)

1.) Open firefox (the port floating around someone made for Diablo is labeled as "GrandParadiso"; aka one of the developer build codenames)
2.) Edit>Preferences>Set default download folder to /home/user/MyDocs/.videos
3.) Install this: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/9614/ (you will first have to click "allow"), then restart firefox and by this they mean close firefox and re-open it.
4.) Visit a page such as: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Fire-F...r/145513041952

5.) Click "Download Video" link
6.) Choose Save

7.) Open mplayer and select the video (if you use gmplayer it should find the video for you)

Okay yeah you can just use the greasemonkey script + MicroB

1.) apt-get install greasemonkey-webaddon (or install from HAM or I suppose fapman or whatever)
2.) Open microb and restart it a couple times
3.) Open greasemonkey
4.) Visit http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/9789 and click the Install button ( http://userscripts.org/scripts/source/9789.user.js )
5.) Answer yes to install the script
6.) Visit http://www.facebook.com/pages/Fire-F...r/145513041952 (or wherever)
7.) Choose Save (not Open because it will open in default media player which cannot open MP4)
8.) Open with [g]mplayer and enjoy.

I know I'll get flamed for this... but what's Nokia's official word about this? Maemo 5 is still supported, right? These workarounds are a ton more complicated than they need to be.

I do, however, blame the sites that are going to Flash 10.x for no real reason - there's no extra functionality in moving to FP 10.1 as they're using it so far (read: no 3D, no added features really)

There is no reason to be flamed. You are making a fair and just statement. I support that too. Other platforms are actively supporting (or working to) flash 10.x and I think it's only fair that Nokia supports this on Maemo. As far as I am concerned N900 is on the shelves out there sold right now.

Either way, i'm not really interested in papa Jobs business module, but would hope Nokia is clever enough and upgrades the n900 firmware ASAP to the very latest flash version, who knows maybe some of the Nokia share holders would like to use facebook, and it might be in Nokia's best business interest to do this very soon.

I doubt Nokia shareholdes own an N900. (My own view is that shareholders for Nokia are gibbering monkeys who still use the 6210, because any sane shareholder would have kicked their CEO into touch years ago for being an idiot)

I think if you want flash 10, it would be mozilla that does it or some other community concern. Nokia have long set the standard for support on the N900 that it would be "community based support". Lets be honest, all we ask is a working ovi maps, ovi suite and a myriad of little fixes or support. Nearly all we ask for is ignored until community enthusiasts come up with something. Which is usually not up to scratch for the first six months. Which seems to then take the heat off Nokia.

HOWEVER, that being said. Nokia don't sell it as a phone, because it obviously would fail in that. So they sell it as an internet tablet. If most websites use Flash 10.1, and this brick can't do flash. Then they can't even sell it as an internet tablet, and finally you can do them under the trades description act.

HOWEVER what I then fear is they will remove from market the N900 and we are once again on our own. Lets be honest people, the phone panned, isn't a big seller and they have removed Maemo from their forward thinking.

So anyone still think Flash 10.1 will come from Nokia, or Mozilla will be the one that does it for us.

when i go onto the official facebook website my videos do not load, it says i need to upgrade the flash player....my youtube works well though
can someone help me please, i want to know the latest version of adobe, and how to upgrade it, should i follow the link given by facebook? but even if i follow it, still i dont know which version to choose in the list given

I used to be able to watch friends videos on facebook, now I get the link to get Flash Player?

I am guessing facebook updated its video & you now need the latest flash player? Is this the beginning of the end for our older version of flash?

I am not optimistic that we are going to get an update to 10.1

It's possible to fool sites into thinking you have Flash 10.1. Facebook videos (among other sites) works if you do this.

It's called Tweak Flash Plugin (I think)

For those who offered help... thanks! I really appreciate it. I am fairly new to the N900 & trying to give the phone an honest shot. I used the search, but it was very random.
