To all Lebanese N900 users (about internet services from MTC and Alfa)

Did anyone try the mtc or alfa WAP on the N900? I've read somewhere that it doesn't work.

Re: To all Lebanese N900 users

yeah i've been calling Alfa for 3 months now and still now they did not finish the configuration for it, and always the same reponse .... N900 only uses GPRS ... so still i'm waiting ..

ahmadamaj 2010-07-26 06:02

Re: To all Lebanese N900 users

what's the problem? do they say why it doesn't work?

rjneid 2010-07-26 07:10

Re: To all Lebanese N900 users

their exact words were: "the team is working on it, beacuse the N900 does not support WAP, it supports only GPRS, so they are looking for a way to do it." and the only other option i have is to go from prepaid subsciption to a regular line ..

Re: To all Lebanese N900 users

so if i have '5at sebet'i can get internet? is it only for alfa? do you know about mtc?

ChadiM 2010-07-27 20:35

Re: To all Lebanese N900 users

Same problem.

Alfa people, can you try enabling the proxy and see if it works? => Settings > Internet connections > choose alfa > Edit > Proxy > Check use proxy.

mtctouch didn't work, I haven't called them yet.

By the way, mtctouch WAP uses GPRS (I read that on their website somewhere), I don't see why it doesn't work...

Re: To all Lebanese N900 users

i called mtc today and the guy said (he had to ask someone) that their internet is working fine on n900

Re: To all Lebanese N900 users

yes, I hope alfa can finally find a solution for the prepaid users to use GPRS instead of WAP.

anyways guys i've created a topic for wap support, check it out:

Re: To all Lebanese N900 users

i'm still not sure that the mtc connection works, cz on their site they say WAP settings. And GPRS connection is a totally different thing for them

ahmadamaj 2010-08-05 12:30

Re: To all Lebanese N900 users

So i called mtc and i think i got a good answer this time:
-If you have a prepaid line you can get the WAP (5$ for 25mb) but it will only work for browsing, the application can't be able to use the internet.
-If you have a postpaid line you have two options. You can get the WAP service for 5$ a month but with unlimited browsing only. Or you can get the GPRS service that works with all the apps on the N900.
The guy told me that when you activate the connection by sending the msg you have to call them and tell them that you have an n900 and you've activated internet service so they will send your settings by mail.

that's great news ahmadamaj, I hope alfa will have the same service in the near future concerning prepaid WAP.

Re: To all Lebanese N900 users (about internet services from MTC and Alfa)

ok.... first of all i am surprised, i never knew anyone in lebanon that has the n900 besides me, what a great device, it should be more popular, anyway i'm 16 and i live in zgarta.
lets get tot he point, the n900 supports wap, well it supports edge connection and... in the uk, australia, ...... and edge is something close to wap.
so yes u can get wap, but it would be awesome to get gprs or unlimited data wap for 5att manno sebbit .
i mean its only 20 or 25 mb, over my house wifi, i need more than 100 mb everyday usage from my n900, yesterday i was downloading some apps, and i ended up with 500 mb !!!!!!!!!! and i use youtube a lot .
and this is not an old crappy nokia, this is a full browsing phone, so watching one youtube video in the browser or looking up the facebook page twice a day, can take 10 mb everyday, unless you can use the opera mobile with opera turbo and mobile view and... but as you guys said it won't supports apps :( .
i heard that vodaphone is on its way to our contry (a couple of my friends already have a vodaphone number working in lebanon with gprs internet) so maybe if vodaphone comes we can have 3g connections on our phones (or at least 2.5 g), with 500mb to 2gb every month, thats sounds good .
and i almost forgot screw alfa and mtc for the crappy internet services, my uncle in australia pays 10 $ every months for unlimited 3g connection (its super fast ).
and by the way i have my device overclocked at 850 mhz any of you guys managed to do that ?????

symbiosis 2010-08-07 12:33

Re: To all Lebanese N900 users (about internet services from MTC and Alfa)

yes elie-7, i overlocked my device at 900 mhz using the fiasco image update.

ahmadamaj 2010-08-07 14:44

Re: To all Lebanese N900 users (about internet services from MTC and Alfa)

N900 is a "very popular" phone in Lebanon by the way.
The internet services from MTC and Alfa are intended to be used for IM, email and maybe some browsing. even with opera mobile anyone can spend more than 25mb a month.
What about vodaphone?! more info if you have.

elie-7 2010-08-13 11:02

Re: To all Lebanese N900 users (about internet services from MTC and Alfa)

my n900 is overclocked using x-terminal it takes only a couple of minutes . and most of the time its running at 850 mhz, when i want to tweak arround and have some fun i go 1 ghz in less than 30 sec .
vpdaphone is trying to get to lebanon since 2008 or something like that, its just that the ****ing politics won't let it come, its still trying to come, if it did, and the vodaphone services they will be using here are the same as they use it in other contries, than lucky us, fast unlimited internet (or if limited it should be more than 512 mb ), and the prices should be not bad, but thats wh they don't want it to come because than alfa and mtc will loose a lots of money .
and by the way if im is used (like my case) for msn, facebook, skype, and ovi chat, than it will take a lot out of the 20/25 mb, and for emailling one video attachement can take 10 mb .
maybe if using opera than it should be good, but that is no fun at all, browsing full web pages in microB is just damm better .
and i don't know a lots of people with a nokia n900 in lebanon....
and if u need the internet that bad out of the house, try connecting to a free wifi, if not get aircrack from the devels and than u can hack wep/wpa1/wpa2 from the n900 its not easy at all, and it takes time.
i say maybe be alfa/mtc should make apecial offers for us : 200 mb of gprs internet every months for 15 $ or less .

To every lebanese n900 holder

ALFA SIM USERS
----------------------

Prepaid (active) Alfa users must know that the wap service is not available on N900, no matter what you mess with the settings, the furthest you will get to is an access denied webpage.

As for GPRS, you need to have a postpaid (classic) alfa line to access this service, and it will work fine
(If you something went wrong maybe because you have previously messed with the settings for that type of connection you might wanna restore your N900 to factory settings so it can automatically detect the new ones for GPRS and it will work fine)

MTC SIM USERS
---------------------

Prepaid (magic) MTC users have nothing to worry about concerning the wap service by MTC, itworks fine on N900, No configuration needed, automatic detection and right away functionability.

As for GPRS by MTC, i haven't tried it, therefore i have nothing to state about it.

have you tried email and IM and applications? do they work fine?

Re: To all Lebanese N900 users (about internet services from MTC and Alfa)

Hi Ahmad,
They work just fine, not just that, they are one of N900 strongest points, Skype IM account is integrated (with the new firmware you have access to the video calling via skype skype option), msn plugin can be installed (check AMSN), pidgin can help too, as for the mail application it works fine as well, but you may wanna read more about it, for synchronization is still bit of a problem, everything you read or delete from N900 will still be intact in your hotmail or other mail service provider)

ahmadamaj 2010-08-18 19:15

Re: To all Lebanese N900 users (about internet services from MTC and Alfa)

i have an N900 and i have everything working fine on my home connection. but i called the mtc guys they said that application will not work with their WAP.

Ali.H 2010-08-18 19:22

Re: To all Lebanese N900 users (about internet services from MTC and Alfa)

Ahmad which application are you talking about ?
Neverthless, i had a MTC on my N900 and everything was working pretty well, don't worry.

I just have to mention that WAP connection might be a bit slow to sync email client for example or sometimes to do some other tasks as launching skype, but it's good for e-buddy web version, surfing and other stuff...

For any further help, please do not hestitate to ask.

hey lebanese N900 users Nice to c u all :)

hey guys
Nice to c u all..i'm from lebanon and i live in beirut
firstly, I think that the best solution for internet connection in lebanon for on our N900 is a wifi connection, due to data consumption on N900.....25 Mb from MTC and alfa??????????? r they kidding???????????????i will use it in about an hour on my N900.
Secondly i wanted to ask u; does anyone of you know if there's any shop in lebanon that sell N900 original accessories (not just nokia accessories, but i mean other brands and not bad stuff imported from china) ??
cz i saw a lot of great accessories on the internet but i don't know if any shop in lebanon brings stuff like this.

elie-7 2010-08-19 10:48

Re: To all Lebanese N900 users (about internet services from MTC and Alfa)

@freestyle i will take that 25 mb in 20 minutes ;)
and thats true, wifi is the only solution for internet browsing on the n900.
and by the way why don't you order online some accessories here take a look at this http://nokia-n900.com/store/ .

Just edit the gprs connection from settings and change the access point name to : wap.mtctouch.com.lb
Check the proxy and in HTTP proxy write the following number :
192.168.4.11
In Ports write :8080
Next Next etc ...

And that's it .
