winmapper - updated

I did a quick conversion from the file based storage, and the application works now with SQLite3 from the last version of maemo-mapper.
Let me know guys if you have any problems with the application.

Download it from here:

Thanks,

If not, there's a not-entirely-convenient workaround: install the maemo SDK and run maemo-mapper in scratchbox.

the application will works 100% under wine. I can't compile under linux, I don't know where my Kylix CDs are and I don't have any Linux boxes right now.

hello ioan,

I just found your app -- thanks a bunch, you saved me from endless clicking around my city to get the maps loaded into the n770. One request, your city finder -- could you also search for Canadian cities? That would be great!

Any chance of getting Canadian maps on here? I can't seem to find the repo addresses for Google Canada maps :(

I'm going to assume you want this for Maemo Mapper. If you upgrade to version 2.x then this area download function is built into the MM app. And Canadian maps are available from the Google repository that is (optionally) loaded as part of that app.

Hi!
Is there an easy way to convert the downloaded tiles to a db?
Thanks!

As far as my experience goes, sqlite seems to use hardware-native formats, so that a x86-generated sqlite db would not work on an ARM target. That is, such an utility could be easily built to run on the tablet (where it would of course lose half the sex appeal of such a db builder, as you'd still have to transfer the full pack of files), but a PC-side db builder would be a big programming effort (effectively a cross-architecture backend rewrite).

So I guess my question is: is there a way of downloading maps in winmapper and transfering them to maemo mapper 2.2? Somehow, if I try to download the maps for my city directly from MM it tells me the size will be something like 2.2Gb, but if I do the same from winmapper I get 100Mb of files. Am I doing something wrong?

That is not the design of sqlite (and I've not had that experience either). My old music database was populated on an x86 and read under ARM (Zaurus and PocketPC).

That being said, the older version(s) had some problems with forward (rather than backwards) compatibility so having library version mismatches could really mess things up.

See http://www.sqlite.org/onefile.html for more information on using the same file on different platforms.

Now berkleydb's... man those are a pain cross platform :-(

Nice app.

Is it possible to get it to work with Google Terrain?

The area download in Maemo Mapper does not work for me. It goes for a little while and then crashes out with no error messages...

Thanks in advance.

Hey, I tried using this to download maps for my state, but it keeps giving me the error "TprogressBar property out of range". Any ideas?
