SD card just died
 
Guys my 16Gb SD card just died. I was trying to do a backup so I wanted to remove old one but it didn't allow me saying that card is in read only mode, then i tried to connect it via USB phone said that there are errors and suggested to fix them on PC ( I tried Wind 7 64bit)

It found errors and said that successfully recovered however I was not able to browse card and then it completely disappeared from my computer , N900 also doesn't see, printer says error in memory card...so can you tell me is it really dead? no option to recover? do you know any good software?

sounds pretty bad. maybe some data restoration company could manage to pull something out from the card but there is probably nothing to do @home to it

I got it for $40 so it was a good deal but looks like i went cheap and payed the price , ever heard of Lexar? maybe i should contact them? what do you think? will they replace it?

you can try to do an exact clone of the sd. On your n900 do
sudo su then dd if=/dev/mmcblk1 of=/home/user/MyDocs/sd_backup.img bs=100M

I am not very sure about the "bs=100M" I usually just run it without it. However, some ppl say it's faster when you have a value there.

16GB gonna take some time to finish so be patient

Lol just for the fun I contacted live chat and here is what the so called specialist told me :D

Two questions :)

What exactly will that function do? Will it save my card?

I had some important/confidential stuff if I'm not able to restore it how can I make sure noone does...maybe its a little paranoid but I dont wanna return item with my data on it:rolleyes:
