N900: Cannot connect on Wifi at Home
5 Attachment(s)
Guys, need your assistance. I have new setup wifi at home :) and I tried to connect my N900 device on it, unfortunately it cannot make it through :(. I don’t know why, but my laptop is working properly :). If I’ll try to connect to another open wifi connection outside home, my device internet is working properly :).
I read some blogs that maybe it’s because of my setup wifi fault that’s why my device cannot connect on this network. Maybe you can guide me on how to setup properly my wifi configuration in order to connect my device and able to use it. I have some print screen images that maybe you can help. Please guide me accordingly because I don’t have idea on these things. It’s really urgent badly. NOTE: red box marked was been deleted for security purposes only. |

Re: N900: Cannot connect on Wifi at Home
Does your N900 see your network at all?
|
Re: N900: Cannot connect on Wifi at Home
I don't see WPA2-PSK supported on my nokia -- change router settings on wlan tab to WPA-PSK and try again. Also ckeck encryption. If doesn't work with AES, change to TKIP (IMO should work with AES).
I am pretty sure it's this. |

But if i am not mistaken, i just tried this already last night. all security setup and WPA encription methods, and still not working. as i said, i can connect to setup (network) but cannot browse or use internet. is there any option on this? NOTE: Someone setup this current connection by the network service provider officer at home without me. I hope someone who can come up a better solutions. I am not familiar in setting up wifi configuration in Saudi. In my home country, it's easy to setup, but here it's really not friendly. Please help, needed badly. |
Re: N900: Cannot connect on Wifi at Home
I'm running WPA2/AES on my wireless router and can connect fine with my N900. So WPA2 is not the problem.
If I understand you correctly, you can see and connect to your LAN (with your N900), but not access the internet? |

Re: N900: Cannot connect on Wifi at Home
WPA2 is supported by N900.
I'm a bit unsure; can your phone see and access your LAN? |

Two question:
When you connect do you get asked for a Pre-Shared Key or for a PIN? Quote:

Re: N900: Cannot connect on Wifi at Home
LAN (Local Area Network) ie. your local network or wifi connection.
Could you access the internet with your laptop via the wifi? Also, can you open terminal and run: Code:
ifconfig |

Re: N900: Cannot connect on Wifi at Home
Why don't you post the make and model of your router. Their might possibly be some firmware update that can resolve your problem.

Re: N900: Cannot connect on Wifi at Home
when your on wifi at home can you access the router from the n900 by typing in its ip adress. mine occasionally says its connected but wont access the router, restarting both helps.
|
Re: N900: Cannot connect on Wifi at Home
You need to be root to use ifconfig. Else use "sudo ifconfig".
|
Re: N900: Cannot connect on Wifi at Home
Ping your router...

Re: N900: Cannot connect on Wifi at Home
Just a few quick questions:
1. DHCP is set up on the router. I'm assuming it's enabled on the phone too. 2. Can you ping the routers IP? 3. Can you ping an outside IP like 74.125.77.99? 4. Can you ping an outside address like 'google.com'? Try all these from the N900 and report back. You'll need to be root to ping as well. |

Re: N900: Cannot connect on Wifi at Home
Seems like a DNS problem. If DHCP is enabled on the phone, you don't need to specify DNS there (AFAIK). Check DNS settings on your router, do they compare to your internet provider?

Re: N900: Cannot connect on Wifi at Home
There's a field for DNS server settings in your third screenshot. Get the DNS IP adresses from your provider and enter them there. I'd have to refer you to your router manual for more specific instructions.

Also, i observed that in Radio Type of every connection has 802.11g but mine is 802.11n, do you think is that the caused? If so, please can you advise how can i change that into "g"? |
Re: N900: Cannot connect on Wifi at Home
You don't need to specify DNS on N900 if you use DHCP ('obtain IP adress automatically', I believe it's called in the menu) under the 'Advanced' tab. You'll need to specify on your router though, refer to your manual as to where.
In the first screenshot you can see where you can change radiotype on the router. AFAIK its not necessary on the N900 its only 802.11 b/g compatible anyway. It would probably help if you could post make and model of your router. |

As unsane said it's a DNS problem on your N900. On the N900 go edit your connection. Click "Next" until you get to the last screen then click "Advanced". Under the "IP Addresses" tab select "Auto-retrieve IP address" and select "Auto-retrieve DNS", then "Save" and "Finish". |

In my home country, setting up your wifi configuration is really easy and user-friendly. I hope somebody can figure it out whats wrong on this setup. |
Re: N900: Cannot connect on Wifi at Home

I can't help suspecting that there's a misunderstanding somewhere though. Setting up wifi on the N900 with DHCP should be really simple. Wifi connections wouldn't be country specific anyway. If you're using the wireless router to connect to the internet with your laptops through wifi, and its working perfectly, we can discount any problems with the router and/or your connection to your ISP. Here's a question: When you set up the router for the first time, did you configure new wifi settings on N900 for that connection? Or did you reuse/edit a connection that was on your phone already? If that's the case, could you delete the connection on N900 and try making a new one? Please reboot between deleting one and making a new. If you can connect to your router with wifi, open your browser on N900 and write the following address: 74.125.77.99 This should open google.com What firmware is running on your phone? Anything installed from the testing or devel repositories? In xterminal on N900 run (type exactly as here): Code:
nslookup google.com Code:
cat /etc/resolv.conf |

Re: N900: Cannot connect on Wifi at Home
The N900 uses dnsmasq, do the following and report:
Code:
cat /var/run/resolv.conf.wlan0 |
