Unlock Phone when face is seen
This could deffintly work,
Basically using face detection on the front camera the phone unlocks rather than swiping. Please do this |
Re: Unlock Phone when face is seen
isn't face detection technology really hard to just make out of none?
there's no way... that that technology is open sourced... |
Re: Unlock Phone when face is seen
Yes it is possible but would use a lot of battery.

Re: Unlock Phone when face is seen
now that sounds a lot like my alienware laptop, and it explains why I'm using milkyway wallpaper for my n900 everything rythmes now. Yup but this function consumes a lot of battery power for sure.

Re: Unlock Phone when face is seen
they have a game called burgerface that demonstares face detedtion.and how about this the face detector only executes when you press the power button once when locked

Re: Unlock Phone when face is seen
Will this work in dark? Will the phone go on a reboot loop as I do not have a handsome face? :-(

good idea! |
Re: Unlock Phone when face is seen
To work in the dark, how about lighting up the status LED white and putting the whole screen white and at maximum brightness while the power button is held?
|
Re: Unlock Phone when face is seen
yes besides when it is in lock screen it will be complete white with the face detection app!!!

It could also be possible to check whether shutter of back camera is open and use its flash light (not correct direction, but still it could make situation better). I would prefer to have one 8MP camera with flash instead of 3MP+5MP with flash, rotatable to either front or back of N900. It would give better experience in many situations. |

Re: Unlock Phone when face is seen
Have you seen n900's front camera? Even regular artificial light is not enough for it, not to mention dim white screen..

2. One more reason to have one rotatable camera instead of two fixed. Or, just ask the user to look onto the back camera until the device says (with sounds of speakers, vibration, or blinking of the two LED): "Face recognised!" Even it would be a substantial progress. |

Re: Unlock Phone when face is seen
the front camera is good enough to detect your face at mild light, it does not need to be super crisp
|
Re: Unlock Phone when face is seen
The camera has to be good enough to tell apart two twins in case one of them "steals" Nokia from another.
Though it's theoretically impossible. |
Re: Unlock Phone when face is seen
OK, then make it scan the fingerprints as well, need to put your finger up close to the camera :D
|
Re: Unlock Phone when face is seen
how about iris scan?
|
Re: Unlock Phone when face is seen
Chipping in with an idea here. You use the back camera instead, that way you'll have access to leds if you need them. Once it sees your face, the program would flash the camera leds in a rapid succession to let you know it worked. A tad harder, but the front camera plainly sux.
