Nokia exec Niklas Savander welcomes your questions on Twitter

Guys check out this link

http://conversations.nokia.com/2010/...ns-on-twitter/

This guy is Nokia's new head of sales and marketing I think he owes us some explanation and answers :D

I dont have Twitter but those of you who have please ask him

1. Why N900 is abandoned in ?

2. Will N900 receive Flash 10.1 , if not its because of marketing or something else

Feels free to add you own question and if we make enough pressure I'm sure he will respond..however these are the question that he might avoid and/or he simply wouldnt know the answer :)

Re: Nokia exec Niklas Savander welcomes your questions on Twitter

I will gladly ask him tomorrow about the N900, precisely: "Why did Nokia fail so much with the marketing of the N900 and its OviStore? Silence, minimum promotion & delays..."

Re: Nokia exec Niklas Savander welcomes your questions on Twitter

I have a followup question: What kind of drugs are Nokia directors on?

Good but since he is a new exec I dont think he's gonna answer for a failures of previous manager :)

It better to ask something like...will he support N900? Will we see full Ovi integration etc

If I can, I'll ask him more questions, as surely others will too :D
PR1.3., Flash 10.1, 720p video, OviStore games - where is the Rollercoaster lol?, etc. I don't want to be mean to the new guy, but he does work at Nokia lol...

Don't forget this one:
"No, seriously, when do we get Flash 10.1?"

and:
"Can we get some Flash 10.1, please?"

The drug one is good too.

Ovi maps is the biggest question on my mind.

USB OTG?
Pauseable video recording? (Cant do funny stop motion vids anymore :( )

The fact NOKIA have failed to deliver, in terms of the Sale of Goods Act 1979; Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982; Sale and Supply of Goods Act 1994; The Sale and Supply of Goods to Consumers Regulations 2002 in terms of flash support.
Basicly it DOES NOT do what it says on the tin.

False advertising with rollercoaster rush 3d being advertised as 'Avaliable from 27th May'.

How about 'Would he like to organise me to become the CEO of NOKIA' as I sure as hell could do a better job than the current monkey!

Exactly.
I hope people are going to be mature about this; he's new, he's not responsible for any of the issues some people have, but none-the-less people will go blaming and attacking him.

pantera1989 2010-08-04 16:33

Re: Nokia exec Niklas Savander welcomes your questions on Twitter

Ok so I have PR 1.3, Meego, Flash 10, Ovi Maps and Video Recording issues. That's all I can think of. Please also ask them about the drugs..they must be good with all these poor decisions.

Please don't accept maybe as an answer. I am sick of all these maybe. Yes or no. And dates if possible (although Nokia is not known for sticking with dates a lot...they must use the chinese calender or something).

I'd rather have no than a maybe. At least we'll know where we stand.

** Edit ** I won't blame the guy. I blame his employer. I love my N900 and I can live with no for all those answers. But I am sick of all these hopes. The N900 is great as it is. It could be a lot better with some effort from Nokia. I just don't want any more false hopes.

Was USB OTG an announced feature or even mentioned somewhere?
And we do have flash, so I don't see how they failed with that. Just because they don't release 10.1 doesn't mean we don't have Flash.

Don't forget to ask about obsolescence and open-source and whether Nokia is finally going to take seriously the commitment to MeeGo/Linux and use open-source friendly components and opened drivers so that the community can support themselves.

The list of issues could run for pages really. Sins against the device, the community and its developers. All of them won't be chosen.

We need someone to throw a shoe at him.

This is NOT always Nokias decision. Its up to the HW/SW manufactors to release they'r drivers and o/or software/drivers and full specifications. Alot of manufactors does not do that, so its not always that simple.

Should we blame Nokia for some of below examples. I dont think soo...

* DSP/3D drivers for TI GFX chip.
* MSN protocol not fully opened protocol
* Skype protocol
* Adobe Flash
* alot more...

But ofcourse there are some we can "blame" nokia for:

* Open up Modem/Phonestack on Maemo but there could be reason this is not open sourced. If they did HTC and others would copy everything. But asfar as I know this is already alot better in Meego (using ophono some already backported to Maemo )

* Battery power managment. Probadly big issues nowdays and patentpending stuff.

We can only dream, however that will happen as soon as you found an SoC core company that releases their drivers as open source, or you buy one and make them do it. There's not a single vendor in the market that is open source friendly, and there aren't any options beyond what exists.

This is like bashing Redhat or Ubuntu for Nvidia not open sourcing their drivers. Your only option is Intel and they're plainly crap.

And push their buttons too, I do. :)

Still, it doesn't seem as if Nokia is using any amount of real influence to push for it. In fact, considering how much MORE closed-source stuff that Nokia has been adding to the N900's since the N800's that absolutely does NOT need to be closed (Really? Calendar? WTF??), I get the sincere feeling they would rather push more for closed despite all their assurances they would like to promote open-source.

They have no real influence, when it comes down to it. It's all about the SoC manufacturer, and they're selling to way more than just Nokia. Having open source drivers isn't a huge selling point from core designer to SoC designer, so they revert to their default "unprofitable trade secret" stance.

Hell you'd think Intel could pull some strings, but I suspect that the people who negotiated for it didn't see it as a valuable point either (that or Imagination fiercely protects their driver source, which is likely.)

Core bits of Maemo being closed is never excusable since Nokia has always had control over it. I suspect it's the Marketers and Legal people behind the scenes screwing things up. You know, "brand protection" ****.

This is also why I'm only interested in the community release of MeeGo and not whatever things Nokia is whipping up, since that will eventually have the same issues as Maemo is having now.

I'd love to have a 100% open source stack, but the industry still sees platforms like this as something special and different from the standard PC, so we get crap like Flash requiring the hardware vendor to purchase a license (I suspect it's the same for Skype.)

So, who prepares the question list? and should we ask him by our own account or create one for tmo?
i have following questions:
1. How much he laugh when he heard about "N900 won't get MeeGo"?
2. What does he think about Chuck Norris?
3. When will get free porn on Ovi?

I'd still like to see the questions I'd pointed out... asked. :) It would be good to have some words from Nokia to back up their intent or their helplessness either way.

Re: Nokia exec Niklas Savander welcomes your questions on Twitter

hey guys.

Remember that we have to use twitter to ask questions. As you might know Twitter has a character limit of 140 characters. So be careful to keep questions/queriessimple and effective.

Best thing to do is use NotePad or something to bullet-point the questions and ensure it is within the limit. This way you can basically Copy and Paste the questions... We should ask the same questions over and over again, because that will make it more effective and the chances of these questions being picked to be answered will be greater.

The guy owes us serious explanations :D

Re: Nokia exec Niklas Savander welcomes your questions on Twitter

Car kit support all nokia high end phone fails miserably at this

PBAP IrMc SyncML and all other bits to connect to any car kit available, they are promoting stuff like Terminal mode on VW cars and i cant have stupid phone book in my damn audi vw or seat which my nokia 6265 a low mid end phone did amazingly

Also they need to support this in Symbian as my N82 and N95 failed as my N900 (all my high end must have phones from nokia are crap with BT)

OVI STORE, real integration with the phone not a stupid web site

OVI MAPS, for gods sake how a 550$ phone doesnt have decent voice navigation specially when NOKIA is the owner of NAVTEQ

And meego when are we going to know who are meego partners

I have some questions:

1. Will the N900 get support to make coffee?
2. Will the next update to Ovi Maps bring support to instant teleportation?
3. Will the N900 be able to turn water into wine?
4. Will the next update bring a cure for cancer?
5. Will the camera be able to take xrays?
6. Will PR1.3 include support for emulation of PS3 and Xbox 360 games?
7. Will the N900 enable me to fly?
8. Will the N900 be waterproof?
9. Will the N900 be upgraded to a quad core?
10. Will the N900 battery be able to replace my car battery?
11. Will the N900 be able to transform in a car/plane?
12. Will the N900 be able to shoot missiles?

Re: Nokia exec Niklas Savander welcomes your questions on Twitter

OMG at all the people expecting answers to these questions. Have you never seen one of these online "interviews" before?

Here's a few hints:
- The guy is new and hardly knows everything about every product there is.
- The N900 was but a tiny part of what marketing do, probably just a sidekick for them.
- His job is Marketing which would include PR. What he's gotta be good at is defusing difficult questions with vague promises of big stuff later.
- If he's good at his job, you'll all be signing up to buy N9's and N10*'s at the end of the discussion. Without giving a single promise.

* Not the likely next model number

If he gets a lot of questions about the N900 asking about long-term support like Android and iPhone get (more like a PC as a major investment than a throwaway phone), it may suggest there's an active community of cash-rich, technically excitable early adopters who it's worth keeping on side.

If he gets lot of smart-sounding questions about open source and its implications for making better devices, better system software and a great app market, he might take note that a not insiginificant set of intelligent developer-users around here. If he's smart he may realise Android is pretty good and advancing all the time, and Nokia can't catch up without getting - and keeping - enthusiastic good quality developers interested.

However if he gets a majority of questions asking for Flash 10.1, I despair :-)

More specifically, why don't they just recognize it's a hardware problem and do what Microsoft does. Replace it, no questions asked. Heck they even use to send you a box free of charge for you to put the device in and even pay for shipping.

I know that Nokia is a bit different but their executives all look the same in their pictures. Kind of like Finnish estate agent pictures. They need a better photographer and a wardrobe stylist for their promo pics. These little touches add a lot.

On the questions, I think you guys have it covered so far.
