Why I absolutely love my Nokia N900

I see so many angry treads on Nokia/Maemo/N900. My opinion is so different. Or am i defferent?

I LOVE MY N900, loved it from the start, I love it now and in the future when I will inevitably change to another phone I will remember it for the great moments It gave me.

Nokia released this mobile for the community and the community did and are doing a lovely job in releasing all the cool apps and enhancing programs that are and will be available for it!

When I bought it, I bought it for the following:

Phoning: It's good. Can phone normal or skype no need for more)
Messaging / emails: Can't be more happy! it's amazing! Nothing like having a phyisical qwerty Keyboard)
browsing: It's good fast and smooth, sure we need flash 10 now but it's ok)
Music: Absolutely stunning. you can even use it with your car FM radio!!!)
Photos: Happy, main cam is good. The future is bright with Fcam!)
Films: I just can't be more happy then I am on this. SIB is the best IMO)
emulators: Geez, we are full! SNES, NES, GBA, PSX, N64..etc..)
Games: Few, but what we have are some of the best)
TV OUT: That's one of the coolest parts! It's my personal DVD player!)
Overclocking: Get your phone to speed with it's competitors!)
OS: Maemo is good and has all you need. If you do not like, meego? ANDROID?! :)

IMO, the only thing that we really NEED now is Flash 10. :)

i agree...but added to that are the REAL-time multitasking, several desktops that enable the use of many useful shortcuts and widgets, and a really "sexy" look...:D

Re: Why I absolutely love my Nokia N900

i think you got the wrong idea of all this bitterness.
Nobody said that they hate their N900 and they consider throwing it off their window first chance they get.
Everyone said that they hate NOKIA for giving us all this crap, like leaving us in the dark about their future support for the device, or how will meego for n900 will look, not to mention all those bugfixes that nokia should have given us long ago.

I am happy with my device but i also cant understand how can Nokia, without any second thought, start pushing this UNCOOKED device to India and some other markets. this is pure robbery, this is not a mass market product.

N900 is a great phone, after using it I can't even think of myself with android as my smartphone OS. Yet, If nokia truly released the phone for the community they should have released all the drivers and other proprietary components for the community to modify so that we can put Ubuntu on the phone and have a working modem and such, and so that we could port meego and have it fully operational...

Nokia will never do it, it released the phone for community and quickly forgot about it and community. It threw you a bone with scraps of meat on it :)

I love N900, I hate the attitude towards Nokia customers.

I've been here since 2007 because of Maemo. I'm still here because of Maemo. The fact that a Nokia device is running it has been irrelevant from the start. The N800 was my first Nokia device and it's still going strong today. I have not had any of the hardware issues some people have had so I'm very happy with my N900. Nokia have delivered most of what I expected from the N900 and I'm happy that there's more clarity with regard to the Qt future that will give our devices years more life.

Love and hate go together. Everybody loves the device for customisability - and hates for brickability. Loves for fast processor, multi-tasking - hates for short battery life. Loves for fitting your pocket - hates for small screen. Loves for durability of the device - hates for fading support from Nokia.

The end-line: many users of N900 will not throw it out of the window even if you offer them iPhone/iPad/Android phone. They might switch to another phone, but they will hardly throw the beloved N900 away. Somebody might throw it out of the window when it makes him really frustrated - and I suppose he will miss it later.

Why I absolutely love my Nokia N900:
It's my first Linux, and my first chance to get Minix (though Minix isn't ported to ARM yet; but my PC-server cannot risk installing Minix, especially when Firefox isn't ported to Minix yet).
It's my camera, GPS, toy, book reader, book scanner, flash-light, experimenting platform. Universal device. If there was Wi-Fi, N900 would become even more so.

I love my N900 although it pisses me all the time.
The freaking email client after PR1.2 doesn't fetch email automatically every hour. I reflashed including emmc my phone 3 times just for that. The only way is to hit send and receive 5x.

I hope you get banned, you can blind yourself and say ow its fine its ok its ok........I am not a negative person but rather a realist let's face a fact

Adobe implemented flash 10 to n900 months from now and gave it to nokia.Nokia needs to update this with its flash and still there is about zero hassle doing this

I dont know if nokia messaging is available for your location... but it is a massive improvement over the default e-mail client. The e-mail is instantaneous.

Yes, being positive is a crime at TMO. Everybody knows that... Definitely a good reason to ban people...

That's not exactly how it works in the _real_ world... Companies don't just *give* other companies their work for free. It was a *beta*. Who knows what kind of problems there might have been with it?

Re: Why I absolutely love my Nokia N900

N900 is a greatest phone(smartphone/tablet) I ever had. In my opinion if nokia had good software support for n900, it would outsell iphones. I know that they try to make money by making new phones, but why can't they just polish already existing products ? Wouldn't it bring more customers ? They are killing the product that sells very well.(even thought it's missing some key features) What is the logic in this ?

In our family tomb there is already a small niche for the N900, including polycarbonate lead coated radiation and leakage proof coffin. (sorry on a budget)

A little bit selfish to be buried with a -hopefully by that time- rare N900, I know, but on the other hand archaeologists may have fun digging into by what alien like miracle technology and sheer coincidence of technological alignment during a peak society era such a wonderful crafted tool may have been conceived... and conclude it was an early external brain or something. :p

Merry white Xmas

This is a great idea. Just have to remove the clock battery on board, and put up schematics on how to build a replacement BL-5J and the system schematics carved in stone, in case people want to rebuild it for fun.

Oh, and don't forget the Maemo source code in stone tablets.

We'll cut that down to one stone tablet and hoping they are still smart enough to figure out the rest:

I have both and wouldn't wanna miss either of the two. S3 (for me) is the perfect mobile entertainer and media consumption device. N900 is the ultimate communicator, network tool and nerd powertoy. Both have their purpose they excel at.
