Unable to boot into Maemo, "u" isn't initiating.... :'(
I come here with a very sad face...
i am unable to enter "u" mode on my n900, power button wont even respond, only to turn it on is by plug in in the usb cable.. It all started with my trying to run MeeGo, which BTW that works... got latest image, wrote it to the SD card.. all fien till here. what i then did was attempt to add an entry to multiboot, added the usual files.. kernel, and the .item... that didn't work until i decided to copy over the lib from the 2.6.(cant remember the default for maemo) and made renamed it 2.6.35 for the meego kernel... both were there the maemo untouched and just a copy of that.. well it worked... multiboot came up and voila it did boot into meego... well when i came back (reboot), multiboot wasn't there and all that came up was the Nokia logo, and a Linux icon top left, and thats it.... only boot into MeeGo... Tried flashing kernel of the pr1.2, said it was successfully and now but same thing came up, still no multiboot or normal boot for that matter... i then decided to flash the kernel of MeeGo to then go back to the maemo one... well that flashed and now device wont turn on using the power button.. cant access "u" mode to flash the whole pr... only way the device does on is to plug in usb cable... well im a sad bunny... i know this is long but if u can help please :) |

Right, i'll speak english that you can all understand.
The guy is trying to go into flash mode, but appears to be doing it incorrectly. Do it like this: Turn the device OFF. Open Keyboard Hold U Key Insert USB Cable while keeping U key held. Keep U key held until you see a USB icon in the top right hand corner of the screen (it is unlit so may be difficult to see). Now it is in flash mode and you can reflash your maemo vanilla and emmc images. |

haha i love how you assume im doing it wrong... sorry to disappoint tho.. i have been into recovery mode b4 successfully so i do know how its done :P doing that, will only turn on the Yellow Light, screen is blank and will not turn on... only way to get it on is by removing battery and reinserting with the usb cable plugged in.. Well ill be taking it back to Vodafone (still has warranty) some time later today... If you guys got any other method to get recovery mode or what not... please do share :) PS: im not having a go at you :) |
Re: Unable to boot into Maemo, "u" isn't initiating.... :'(
I never use 'U' key for flashing...
1. turn off the phone completely 2. run flasher on CLI and wait for it to search for devices 3. connect the phone using USB cable 4. flasher detects the phone and starts flashing |

Re: Unable to boot into Maemo, "u" isn't initiating.... :'(
Interesting, that's exactly what happened to me when I went this route to try MeeGo.
It turned out that when I tried to flash the official pr1.3 kernel, I got this message: Quote:
Now that doesn't explain why i couldn't load the pr1.3 kernel using the flasher... I would really like to understand why this is happening. Maybe other parts of the boot sequence gets clobbered during meego boot/run... I can't tell really. I just notice that when I flash my phone using the PR1.3 image (that worked ok) there seems to be a lot of "things" in the image aside the rootfs and kernel... Any clue? I sure hope we can find a answer to this before too many adventurous users gets into trouble trying the multiboot approach... |
Re: Unable to boot into Maemo, "u" isn't initiating.... :'(
I am not an expert here but I've read somewhere that in order to boot back to maemo you have to remove the MicroSD (that has the MeeGo installed on).. It sounds silly but try that and see if it works... :)

I've did that: I tried without an sd card and with the sd card that contains the NITDroid image, without luck.
I've seen other being able to reflash their original kernel without issues (it seems), I guess there was something special about my setup... Oh well I may try again later... once I get a better understanding of the bootloader process of the N900... |
