BYE BYE N900 - Sad day Nokia!
Well...I've always been a proud owner of Nokia phones since my first one in 1996 and have loved most of them...but over the last couple years Nokia have gone down in my estimation!
In fact, I was quite fed up with Nokia before the introduction N900 but I thought I would give Nokia another go...so I did after the late late late introduction of N900. Was very well made (although a bit too thick!) but it was a nice experience....and I was looking forward to great software to come....but I must say I was disappointed! Fist of all, they dropped Maemo...(my £500 N900 became obsolete only after a few months of introduction!!!!!), although they did issue a rather poor update in PR1.2, with missing voice guided OVI Maps Nokia promised...just to name one of the many promises they broke!!! Then, to add insult to injury...they announced that there would not be an official Meego build for N900....that was a really clever decision Nokia!!! The only thing that's keeping the N900 going is the Maemo.org community as Nokia have sadly abandoned its loyal fans....so well done and thank you Maemo community...and sadly bye bye Nokia as I've opted for an Android phone...it's a much more exciting and fun OS albeit not as powerful as Maemo! Good bye for now...Ash |

With 17 Thanks? We will miss you. ;)
Could a Mod please merge this thread with one of the several others? |
Re: BYE BYE N900 - Sad day Nokia!
These threads are two to a penny now, and sadly I am starting to agree with some of them. I have not used nokia in years but bought the N900 as it was a proper linux phone (I know its not really a phone). Usual spiel, well built, miss the maps and all that but got over it due to the ability to do what I wanted with the OS. In hindsight I should have done more research as lack of USB host support, the annoying location of the usb port, lack of well layed out physical switches drives me mad at time. I am not blaming Nokia for failing with the phone, it was my purchase decision and it's my own tough **** when things like the physical aspects of the phone bug me.
Some people on here have to learn that a lot of people feel really hard done by from a software point of view and on the flip side a lot of the people with these complains need to realise that this is not a nokia site and most of us who are trying to get on with using the device and sick to death of the crying and moaning about this, that and the other. Both groups are runing the community the maemo.org site has given to so many people over the years, so please cut it out. |
Re: BYE BYE N900 - Sad day Nokia!
My problem is I really like my n900 - from a technical aspect Nokia have done a great job and it also has a stable OS.
It's not perfect but I use it all the time. It's Nokia's current management team that are causing all the problems - ignoring the n900, ignoring maemo, switching to MeeGo and the utter fail of the OVI Store. |
Re: BYE BYE N900 - Sad day Nokia!
Could a moderator open a sticky thread "Old members say farewell!", please? :(

Re: BYE BYE N900 - Sad day Nokia!

|
Re: BYE BYE N900 - Sad day Nokia!
You would think Nokia would notice threads like these and maybe start "asking questions".
|
Re: BYE BYE N900 - Sad day Nokia!

Ever taken the time to think that all of these farewell threads are indicative of a true problem guys?
I mean... besides the freedom of speech, it seems like a few people are jumping ship. And instead of attacking, look at the deeper problem(s). |
Re: BYE BYE N900 - Sad day Nokia!
This is a community operated site. No one from Nokia is giving sh* what is going on here.
Ergo - crying loud into friend's shoulder won't change the world... because world doesn't give a sh*. |

Welcome to the community of nobody cares... that's pretty damn sad. I liked this place better when it was still ITT. People actually were friendly. Now? Not so much. |
Re: BYE BYE N900 - Sad day Nokia!
I don't think this is a big deal people saying goodbye for being pi**ed of by nokia, but i think someone should create a thread in off topic zone - Good by nokia here !
It's just demotivating listening over and over the same story every day, come on guys there are still people developing for this and loving this device, there will be surely updates for some time, and i think there will be even a flash player 10 ( http://forums.adobe.com/message/2829804#2829804 , even it's old one ) ... so please show some dignity ? |

I agree it IS demotivating but by the same token, watching people like qwerty12's departure lends weight to the whole argument about the lack of respect and welcoming that sadly these forums seem to be short on. Too many people are quick to judge and jump on the bandwagon, begin stoning people and actively seeking for a public lynching of anyone who dares to criticise the N900, Nokia or any of their subsidiaries. I agree with the OP - to a lesser extent - there are many things I would *like* my phone to do better, but at the end of the day I'm tied into a contract for the next year or so so I'm stuck with it, and just making the best of it. Enjoy it while you can, **** man, you may even learn something new! I for one would like to say to the OP, thanks for coming along for the ride, sorry it didn't work out for you the way you hoped, and I hope you find what you desire in Andriod. Drop by and watch some flamings from time to time, I'll have the kettle on and a packet of chocolate digestives..... And if Johnel's coming, I'll bring cake. |
Re: BYE BYE N900 - Sad day Nokia!
Wait. Qwerty12 left!?
|
Re: BYE BYE N900 - Sad day Nokia!
Mh-hm.... I believe so....
|
Re: BYE BYE N900 - Sad day Nokia!
Holy ****. I just found it - here.
Wow. I mean, qwerty12 was a hero, a developer, got stuff done, answered questions. And people want to deny that something isn't wrong!? Wow. I'm... actually speechless a bit. |

Re: BYE BYE N900 - Sad day Nokia!
N900 is an old biitch now, new biitch is just around the block lol. It's old but I still love it. Got to agreed that Nokia losing me as one of their future customer as well if they continuing their terrible way of cashing from customer without proper responsibility in providing better products.
Hold an Iphone 4 in my hands today. Got to agreed that Iphone got so much better things inside (despite the signal problem and pain in the arse trying to activate it for my friend with the iTunes). Camera of the Iphone is fast and video is smooth, screen is superb and very very very responsive and smooth. Oh well but I'm not jumping Apple ship yet. Apple still need to be more open to get me as a customer. |
Re: BYE BYE N900 - Sad day Nokia!
Sorry Gerbick, I thought you must have known about it - being such an active member on these forums. Yes, indeed, the demise of qwerty12, due in no small part to the antagonistic actions of certain other individuals who frequent this place.....
I was speechless too. If you read the rant you will understand fully the reasons why. I'm with him on his thoughts on the matter - and the previous posts from fanboys in this very thread are simply justification for his actions. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, it's not a question of "when I ask for your opinion I'll tell you what it is", that's why it's termed "YOUR" opinion..... The OP has lost faith, moved from Nokia to Andriod. Fair play. I got no argument and neither should anyone else. |

Do you think all these "farewell, PS you suck" posts are giving something to the community? We have too much noise here already. But... if you want to stay with someone just turned his back to the rest, not with the rest - it's your choice. Be "friendly"... |

Re: BYE BYE N900 - Sad day Nokia!
I can see if people get annoyed at these kind of posts because they clutter up the forum and they may need to be organized in some better ways.
But the fact is that people object the content and they come in and post to retaliate against the writer, while ignoring\being oblivious to the bigger problem that these sort of post indicate. So yeah, imho: 1. If you're complaning for better forum organization, I'm all for that. 2. Wake up and face the music.. get in touch with reality. |
Re: BYE BYE N900 - Sad day Nokia!
Enough is enough guys! Please just let people leave in peace and be nice to one another. If we all are nice and helpful to one another then there will be no one fighting and angry, leaving, or ranting over something so simple. Attacking one another like a bunch of immature kids won't make this community united as a whole. We need to learn to understand one another and stop the bad comments please.
I beg of you people!! |
Re: BYE BYE N900 - Sad day Nokia!
In respect to why qwerty12 left, is the N900 particularly more "closed source" than the previous Maemo devices?

And people, as of late, are only nice to those that agree with them. Worship the N900... ****. You'll have friends for life. I get how these threads are... annoying to some. But let's dig deeper for once. The threads would not happen at this site, or anywhere if people were universally more happy about the product and communication. That is what is being overlooked. Whine, complain, troll, argue, flame, hate, love, or blissfully remain blind to whatever you may choose in the life; that's a truth that's being wholly overlooked. Not that everybody would have been happy with the N900. I used one for months, still avoided purchasing it. Not because I saw a sinking ship ahead (like I do now) but because I had needs that have yet to still be met in the device. Can't please them all. But you can't flame them all either. Sooner or later, these kind of threads will stop. I can remember a time when there were none. It'll get back there soon enough... just wonder what will it take to get there. Nokia solving the problems, Nokia communicating better or Nokia releasing something new. At this rate, it'll invariably be the last option, unfortunately. The friendly bit, it was a reading of the entire forum, not just you. |
