Who's considering the N8
I am one of the ones that didnt realize how important my N900 was until the charger port broke mid travel. So I am typing phoneless until I get a standalone charger, mine repaired or a new phone. Made me ponder as well as look up the newest release date....
How many of you are going to jump on that N8? |
Re: Who's considering the N8
Its an interesting phone for me, I can give no good reason to have another nokia but I can't stop buying them.
the N8 looks interesting so maybe ill have a look when its in shops but I cant replace the n900 with such a ordinary phone (anyway the n9 is the one to look out for) When I'm done with this phone (which will probably be around xmas) I just hope nokia release another phone as good as this. |
Re: Who's considering the N8
not me..............
|
Re: Who's considering the N8
Im going to get it the phones i use now is the N900 and N86 so im going to sell or trade in my n86.
|
Re: Who's considering the N8
if the n8 got a qwerty keyboard i'll get one
|
Re: Who's considering the N8
i am probably gonna get one, just to play with at least. the beauty of unlocked devices, swapping sim cards.
i also wanna get a nokia 3720 for on the boat. right now i just take my n900 in a ziploc bag :) i dont forsee any manufactyrer coming out with 12mp linux based waterproof phone ths year, so until then i will probably have to sw sims |
Re: Who's considering the N8
the only thing i am worried about with n8, as many here, is virtual keyboard. and even videos i have seen show only a t9 dialpad in portrait.
|
Re: Who's considering the N8
Rather wait for th n9, I must say the n8 has grown on me the more I see it.

n8 is based on symbian, I am going to wait for the n9. I will not go back to symbian. Ever. |
Re: Who's considering the N8

Re: Who's considering the N8
No more nokia phone for me. Those guys should learn to listen to their customers.
|
Re: Who's considering the N8
if the device is selling at 100bucks NZD then I would get it. Just for the capacitive and the 12MP. I wish! But to be honest! NO more NOkia for me until there are atleast 100000 apps in their app store. Right now there are hardly anything solid.
No!! Nokia.... You're a bad baby!! Grow up and be like your cousin Apple and droid! |
Re: Who's considering the N8
im not really sure lol.
|
Re: Who's considering the N8
I see no reason to pick Symbian.

The story of me and the N8.
Opening Youtube...... New Videos..... Introducing The Nokia N8 *chime in nokia music* - Hmmm. Interesting.... No Keyboard - Understandable HDMI-out - Nice. 12MP - Cool! USB Host - Respect! 680MHz ARM11 - Say what now?! Symbian^3 - WTF??!! Click Close. |
Re: Who's considering the N8
Symbian is a mature OS and N8 has decent hardware, but once I use Maemo I cannot go back to anything inferior. It's too late to save me. Let me go.

I like Maemo since its so different to any phone OS I've used before, even with its litte quirks. |
Re: Who's considering the N8
after reading a lot and taking into consideration that nokia will not develop anything for n900, ill just stick to mine until it breaks or stops working, then ill just go android.... or even iphone....
|
Re: Who's considering the N8
I have used N900 and E75 together and E75 is owned by my employer. I'm taking N8 to replace E75 and I have already tested it and it was very good even there was beta firmware and prototype hardware.
|
Re: Who's considering the N8
N900 will always remain with me irrespective of Nokia's support.
No N8 for me and I am not planning on the N9 either. Has nothing to do with MeeGo but Nokia has disappointed me over and over again starting with N97. I am just so suprised that a company can axe their own foot so hard when everyone else is trying to be competivite. Android is the future (for now). iphone is for pussies. |
Re: Who's considering the N8
i have a canon eos 550d for shooting 18mp photos and 1080p HD videos, so dont need a 12pm camera on a phone,
and ill never go back to symbian, dont like the look of meego either, or android, so it looks like im stuck with my trusty n900 for a couple of years |

Re: Who's considering the N8
the n8 seems like a nice device....but no...still prefer the n900 over that...
will wait for MeeGo... also a physical keyboard is a must. |
Re: Who's considering the N8
i admit, when i got a maemo device, it gives me way a lot other than some mobile phone OS. but i started my smartphone moments with symbian, so i cant say that i will stop there. i just newly bought my n86. :D happy!!!,
|
Re: Who's considering the N8
Thanks for all the posts, and I have to be honest I thought from early images that the N8 was going to have the qwerty keypad. I am now reading that it is unclear if it was pulled from the N8 or is a possible N98.
Nice pic here |
Re: Who's considering the N8
I just saw this link that they are calling the N9 possibly, but either way nice vid. Other than the OS, I am interested.
|
Re: Who's considering the N8
^ That's probably the N8 keyboard variant or E7 not N9.
|
Re: Who's considering the N8
I'll consider if/when there's a keyboard variant, but not until.

Re: Who's considering the N8
I moved to the N900 because of maemo and the software. The N8 doesn't do anything to impress me enough to get one. Sure there's some nice features: 12MP camera, HDMI, multi-touch/capacitive screen and ofcourse it looks good (IMO :p). But the rest of the hardware, the OS (seriously, Symbian?) and the software just doesn't scream "buy me!" like the N900 did. I'll be staying with the N900 :)
Plus the N900 only got released in Australia in April, we won't see the N8 for looong time probably >_> |
Re: Who's considering the N8
I am considering the N8. I have a dual holster that carries my N900 and N82 and the N8 will be a perfect replacement got my aging xenon+GPU equipped N82. Heres hoping that TMobile usa picks it up so I can get it for cheap and save my cash for the Meego phone.
Come on Tmobile, you know you want me to renew that 5th line.... :) |
Re: Who's considering the N8
No more Nokia....moved to Samsung Galaxy S....enjoying it
|
Re: Who's considering the N8
Symbian is just silly. Nokia holds on to the platform because it is a recent buy (2008) and to kill it = to admit that it was money wasted, thus we keep seeing these shitty devices running symbian in all its incarnations till this day.... probably will still see it in the future too. As to the original question: I will not buy any more nokia devices until the company redeems itself.
Sometimes I think that the best message to nokia that will most likely draw attention to itself would be to do what Iran did : Boycott its products :) (well i'll just keep dreaming) |
Re: Who's considering the N8
Well I was thinking of getting one but since Nokia is going to announce Symbian ^4 in a year or so as much as N8 has good OS and hardware it technically carries dead OS and unlike N900 you cant install NitDroid or even Maemo 5 so I'll pass :)
|
Re: Who's considering the N8
someone in the know told me yesterday that the ui of the n900 replacement will be awesome! i gotta see the app suport though.. need apps to make a platform work..
