Very Impressed!

The phone is great for media, movies, internet browsing is amazing! and overall i love itt. i had a choice of this or the iphone 4 and i know i made the right decision as i type on this now. looking forward to getting to know the community!

Re: Very Impressed!
i was very impressed too by how ultra fast and open the phone is.
i never had an so open phone and now i know that its the best in the n900 cause you can make what you want and customize everything- just AWESOME |
Re: Very Impressed!
I have an Ipod touch and N900, the hardware of N900 is good, its just bad OVI store and an overall lack of polish on some parts (like media player) that makes the phone miss its potential IMO, it could be sooo much better, is good already, but simple things being learnt form competitors (android and apple) could make the user experience soooooooooo much better...
Question is how to change this, i know it isnt easy, but somehow allowing all apps etc available for iphone/android to run on N900 would IMO put N900 ahead of both competitors. For instance, we cant watch BBC iplayer or sky via web, neither can iphone, but difference is iphone get apps to allow this, we do not, as there isnt a big enough user base for N900 to justify the devs/companies bothering.. |
Re: Very Impressed!
Congratulations on your satisfactory purchase! I am so impressed with my N900 that it has taken the place of my laptop. I only use my computer when I have to use PC specific programs. Most of my gaming, movies, music and web browsing is done on the N900. I had so much fun playing Killer Instinct on my HDTV from the N900! It felt like it was 1995 all over again.
The N900 has endless possibilities and is the best Mobile Computer available! First thing I would do as a new user is upgrade to the latest N900 firmware: PR1.2. That will give compatibility for the newer software that rely on that firmware. There are a lot of knowledgeable people in this community and many are more than willing to help. I found most of my answers by searching through the forums and if I couldnt find it here, using google search would give me an answer...that would link me right back to maemo.org. :) I hope that you continue to enjoy your N900, learn what it can do, add the extra repositories and maybe even learn xterm commands. One thing to remember is that the N900 is a Mobile Computer and that means that there is so much more potential for development and use than from a mobile phone. This community is great and there are many developers that make software for the N900 and don't charge a dime for it. Welcome, and enjoy! |
Re: Very Impressed!
N900 was never meant to be mainstream therefore there are no apps for sites and 40k books as applications :D. This has been discussed countless times in the forum.
The end of most discussions is that there is no perfect phone. Its all about personal preferences. |

Re: Very Impressed!
i think n900 is a horrible phone, had for about 6months and had 3 replacements and yet still having problems with it...i wish there was more apps you can have on phone like msn, yahoo. as soon as i can upgrade i will be..i really dislike this phone and the worst one i had

Re: Very Impressed!
I never had any problems with the phone itself, this phone been a great help to me ever since I used it for the past 6 months, note my job scope requires attention on linux operating systems so it's more of a godsend compared to most of the phone I have ever came across.

Re: Very Impressed!
As a phone, the N900 is basic. As a Mobile Computer (its design purpose) the N900 is amazing. I would not recommend the N900 to someone looking for a phone. I recommend it to people looking for a mobile computer. There are many phones that are better at being phones but there isn't one phone that is better at being a mobile computer than the N900.
For all that the N900 doesn't do well, it does much more right and even more than what any other phone can do. |
Re: Very Impressed!

Must agree with the OP, i love this phone aswell with the good and minor good things... Okay and the few bad aswell ;) There're so many good and usefull apps in the repos, easy debian, mypaint, mc, themes, games, music/vid players just to mention a few and all the modding and dualbooting and... Well i keep my life in the present and appriciate what i've got and not that the grass might be greener on the other side or might get greener if i just had that or that :D |
Re: Very Impressed!
I've had my N900 since february and I still constantly think about how great it is. Simply the best phone I've ever used. The screen is lovely, the keyboard has a great feel to it even though i have quite big thumbs, the camera is great for a cellphone, 32Gb internal storage, tv-out, fm-transmitter, and build quality, all make this a great piece of hardware. Even the internal speakers are quite good.
Maemo has it's own flaws but then again so does every mobile OS out there so I don't see the point in complaining too much, and the fact that you can customize _everything_ makes it stand out against it's competitors. I love this phone and everything you can do with it and at the moment wouldn't change it out for anything. Props to OP for starting this thread. |

I believe the N900 is now one of the most versatile and capable PHONES available (and is one amazing pocket computer to boot). Anyone who uses their N900 as a phone should try out these apps. In what way do you find N900 'basic' as a phone? |
Re: Very Impressed!
I had a great moment with my N900...
I was driving to a friend's place, with my N900 mounted on the dash, playing streaming BBC World Service to my car while it was also displaying a GPS map (cloudGPS). My sister called me, so the phone paused the BBC stream, swapped windows to the phone and I answered it. Talked to her for a bit, I swapped the GPS back to the front, and when she ended the call, the BBC stream was back in action. Beautiful. |
Re: Very Impressed!
I'm one of the early adopters that got the N900 around December as soon as stores had it on their shelves and I must say that my love affair with the N900 continues.
The internet browsing experience has totally spoiled me, and such browsers as the one with Android devices seems like child's play to me. I can never go back from this experience. Sure its a bit bulky and funny in some places like the media player, but all in all I'm very satisfied. :) |

As the tags below say - bring on the Trolls. Quick - everyone look unhappy and start muttering dark things about Nokia...

Re: Very Impressed!
I'm just saying, if you dont like it, go get something else. Trade or sell it away. It's the same as a car, If you don't like the one you have, sell it or trade it in. I wasn't saying you were trolling. I was saying that if your purpose was simply to state your displeasure in the phone, you can sell it and recoup some of your losses. If you're here to incite and inflame( trolling) please shut your pie hole.

Most people join this forum to find constructive solutions for problems and shortfalls on their Nokia Internet Tablets (not just N900). These are very much 'enthusiast devices' aimed at early adopters for new thechnology and new, transitional operating systems. When people come on here and just slag off a device without stating why they found it lacking a battle of words usually ensues and this can quickly degenerate into vitriolic attacks on other people's knowledge or lack thereof. The word 'Troll' is used a lot! There's a lot of ego round here, I'm afraid, but there are also alot of very genuine people who work very hard to help develop and improve these interesting devices. Perhaps you might like to share your experiences in the relevant thread, or seek advice and experience via the excellent search function? |

I would suggest that you speak to whoever is sending you the 4th handset and tell them you believe it is "not fit for the purpose sold" - that's wrong, I think the problem lies elsewhere but they might just agree and provide you with something a little less complex. |
Re: Very Impressed!
back on topic..... i remember when the n900 was introduced, my feelings were mixed and more on the negative side. i didn't like many of the design decisions they made for the maemo 5 UI (which i had only read about or seen in screenshots at that time). i didn't like small screen (compared to n8x0), the thickness of the device, its less than basic phone features (missing mms, syncing, voice dialing, text2speech,...) etc etc etc.
one of my blog posts then cought the attention of peter schneider; he commented and, among other things, said the n900 was "addictive". - well, what else could he have said... that's what i thought. now, 9 months later, i know how right he was. it's probably the most addictive gadget i've ever owned. whatever i worried about before - i was proven wrong. the UI works exceptionally well; most of the functionality i missed is now provided by 3rd party applications... plus i got used to carry something big in my pants. so he was right: it's addictive. it may not be perfect, but i'd never trade it for any other touch device. i'm impressed, just like the OP is. so impressed, in fact, that i bought a second one. ;) |
Re: Very Impressed!
It is nice but really nokia could just silence all (or much of) he criticism with a few strokes...
1) promise another firmware update 2) promise new flash 3) promise voice navigation I have no idea as a non developer how hard these 3 items would be, but I think the n900 has done more to hurt nokia's reputation then help it in general. personally I could not do without a hardware keyboard and a true linux (no not maemo but easy debian). It is great because I can learn linux on it in chroot and not be afraid of killing the phone. But I really feel with just those 3 things nokia could silence their n900 critics. problem is nokia doesn't really seem to care.... |
Re: Very Impressed!
I bought my N900 just yesterday and have been playing with it eversince! This thing is AMAZING out of the box, and still getting better with all the comunity apps!!
And for lovelymommybecks: trolling continuously is posting offtopic. Definition can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troll_%28Internet%29 Good luck with your 4th one  @extendedping PS, why would you buy a second one? you can play with only one at the time, isnt it?:) |
Re: Very Impressed!
aha, thank you for such a positive respone to my post! i too only got this phone yesterday, and i just know i'm not going to get bored with it. As soon as the phone arrived, i connected to the internet and loaded up some of my favourite sites such as engadget. Coming from an ipod touch with something like a 320x480 resolution, this was absolutely amazing. this is truly my replacement for a laptop, perfect internet imo, its a phone, snes gaming never gets old for me as well, already cracking out some chrono trigger and earthbound! And last but not least, even though nokia has pretty much dumped this phone, i am confident meego will come to this phone. I bought this phone knowing nokia would only give imor updates, but i don't care. I am now a proud n900 owner for the next two years and in the future (two years) I shall certainly buy a qwerty meego device! regarding all this talk of mobile phone resolutions though, it is starting to get ridiculous. you can almost see full webpages on this device, with a small amount of scrolling to left and right. Resolutions like 1280x768 that will eventually appear on phones is juust unneccessary. I cannot stress enough how good browsing is on this phone, just amazing!
