how to check if my N900 is original?

hi,
I bought N900 and I want to check if its new and original device

how can I see the time that the phone is worked for?

what can I understand from the IMEI code?

the device is made in korea as its written on the picture under the battery.
does all the item like headphones etc. made in korea also?

does nokia has any list of IMEI codes of original devices?

and anything else to check if its new and original device

pls give me any info how to check it
its very important.
tnx!

Go here: http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/nokia_N900.php

Enter your IMEI number. If it gets you in, the IMEI is legit.

I really don't think that *fake* N900 exists... :)

If it runs Maemo 5 it's probably an N900... ;)

i think the guy also wants to know if its second hand, not sure if there is a way to check total up time?

Re: how to check if my N900 is original?

Isn't there a build date where the IMEI is written? (under the battery)

That could give *some* indication.

I don't think this is possible.
(It was on S60 phones, though.)

as far as i know, the n900's are made in korea, there should be a label saying "Designed in Finland" on the back of the screen.

accessories ar made in China (nowadays) maybe coz there is quite manpower and less labor expense on that country, but i am not certain.

EDIT: my charger is made in Japan and the audio/video out is in Thailand.

unfortunatly if you flash te firmware, it also resets the uptime and the date.

This means it is impossible to know if it's secondhand

They certainly do exist. ebay warning on fake n900s. There's 2 styles as well.

One fake that I've seen has Nokia Nseries printed in white on the back cover and the camera lens cover has the info embossed. Apart from that, one good way to detect a fake is to try and find x-term in the menu.

I would say: If you have to ask. It's fake!

That's why I wrote "If it runs Maemo 5 it's probably an N900"... ;)

I don't see how they would make Maemo run on a device which doesn't have the exact same hardware as the N900 (a big part of Maemo is closed source).

Re: how to check if my N900 is original?

I've seen many fakes, usually they got TV tunning functionality and accept two SIMs at once, but the guts are actually running Symbian or some knock off of it

geneven 2010-08-21 23:00

Re: how to check if my N900 is original?

The funny thing about the ebay warning is that many of the features listed as giveaways that it's a phony are features that N900 users would really like to have.

TiagoTiago 2010-08-21 23:08

Re: how to check if my N900 is original?

Indeed, but those features aren't worth giving up all the stuff only the real N900 offers

DrWilken 2010-08-21 23:23

Re: how to check if my N900 is original?

You guys don't actually think that these fake devices do what they claim to do, do You? :)

(that's a lot of do's in one line).

What if my N900 misses the "Designed in Finland" label? (Otherwise the Nokia site accepts my IMEI as valid.)

Re: how to check if my N900 is original?

So wait... there's no real way to find out the life of a N900? I seriously thought that was added in Maemo 5.

Learn something new each day.

are you saying they don't have TV tunner, don't accept a second sim etc?

I'm guessing You're responding to my post?

I'm just saying that even IF the hardware is there the software still needs to support it... It's kind of like a great looking hi-tech car with a big engine but without an Engine Management chip... ;)

Think video chat on Maemo 5 when the N900 was launched etc...

Re: how to check if my N900 is original?

Thanks alot fo this information!
Its helped.

the IMEI code is listed and its doesn't have any second sim slot or so.

I have anyther question:
its has 32GB of memory but when I checked the availble space and total space its sayed that it has only 27 GB of total space
why?

how much total space you have on your n900?

TiagoTiago 2010-08-22 08:25

Re: how to check if my N900 is original?

check the size of /home :)

stickymick 2010-08-22 08:26

Re: how to check if my N900 is original?

Mine says "Total size: 27.22 GB" too, so wouldn't worry about it.

I think what you're looking at is the known phenomenon of "storage space v physical memory" Physical memory, ie chips are listed as 1024 MB = 1 GB. Whereas storage space is listed as 1000 MB = 1 GB.

Which is why Windows etc will always report a hard drive as having less memory than the manufacturer states. Manufacturers sell hard drives in 1000 MB chunks. Windows and other O/Ss report the capacity in 1024 MB chunks.

Re: how to check if my N900 is original?

To know if it is fake then you have to use the real N900 before you buying an N900. I think this is the most important. If you don't see it in your hands and the seller doesn't guaranteed to refund if anything goes wrong then don't buy it.

Because the risk may be bigger than benefit from buying ungeniune device from eBay.

If your friend got one then your friend can test it out for you :)
Once you're used to an N900 then you can never go back on any other phone.

N900 only got one SIM CARD slot, so if there are 2 then it an indication of FAKE alert.

Re: how to check if my N900 is original?

As long as it is dual sim, it is a fake...trust me almost got ripped off on more than one occasion while searching for the n900. Sellers wont admit it's fake but the moment you ask em if its dual sim and they say yes, then it's a guaranteed fake.

Re: how to check if my N900 is original?

thanks for the info!
My phone seems to be original, it has 800x480 res, one sim slot
IMEI number appears on nokia site, and its made in Korea.

Does the battery made in China?

my front camera displays green pictures
I used the Mirror application and HealthCheck and they both show pictures that has too much green color
does your phone shows this too or its just my phone?

Can I add a 32GB microSD and will it work well with the mobile?

how to add the 'More' icon on the menu screen to hide the additional apps and see only the preinstalled apps?

Re: how to check if my N900 is original?

pull the cable out of the usb port after charging. if the port stays intact, it's a fake. if it breaks, it's a genuine nokia.

Whoa, Whoa buddy, slow down. Now that you have your n900 verified as original, maybe you should devote some time to searching the threads for the answers to all those new questions....

those programs show green pics for me too, but video thru skype has normal colors, my guess is those programs are using an outdated way to read from the camera.

If you want to create folders you could use this prog called appmefo (Applications Menu Folders), or if you want to have the progs be automaticly put in folders based on their categories (like on the HAM) use Catorise

I dunno about the card thing though

hehe,, healthcheck just captures one image from gstreamer tools. not the greatest way, but just quick and dirty.

it takes about 50 frames for the green to vanish normally, so skype etc use it properly!!
