Netstory
Netstory is a home network data counter. I have installed this and then rebooted on numerous occassions, but it never seems to record any data, even though I know data is being sent and received. Has anyone who has tried this had any luck with it?

Re: Netstory
Yes, it's working perfectly. Probably your data counter in phone settings is setup wrong?
|
Re: Netstory
Thanks for the reply but I don't see how it can be "setup" wrong. The only options are to clear the counter and notify every 1000mb or whatever. I think that the app records cellular data, where as I was actually after an app that recorded data that my phone uses on my home wifi network.

Re: Netstory
Does anyone know if this is meant to record Lan data or gprs?
|
Re: Netstory
I guess it's meant for GPRS connection only. But as I'm currently not using any WLAN connection I can't tell wether this would be counted too.
|
Re: Netstory
I confirm that NetStory records and shows only GPRS traffic. And by "Home network data counter", I mean Settings -> Phone -> Home network data counter, which is actually homeland GPRS network data counter.

Re: Netstory
Okay. Thanks for replying and clearing that up for me. Appreciated.

Re: Netstory
After updating to PR1.3, NetStory isn't working anymore. When I try to run it from console(~ $ /opt/netstory/netstory.py) I get only "Segmentation fault". Any guesses, why?

Re: Netstory
Should work now, try it from Extras-testing: http://maemo.org/packages/package_in...story/0.1.4-1/
If it works, please give thumb up in order to have working version for Extras. |
Re: Netstory
I have updated to the extras-devel version. Works now.

Re: Netstory
Right, updated version 0.1.4 works with PR1.3, thanks for update.

Re: Netstory
Feature request:
Divide the network acitivity by network type wlan or gprs. (And also have sum data for all network). For gprs I have fMMS installed and also seperate data connection. So it would also be good to distinguish between the seperate connections. Also wlan is not always at home, but sometime in a hotspot or friends house. Basically the best would be to be able to filter the data by a connection list consisting of network connections and APN's. |

Also, I think that logging WLAN traffic would be quite different compared to current solution for GPRS. |
Re: Netstory
I would really find this feature useful. Hopefully someone could add it. This would make this app highly useful for me. Here's hoping. I am surprised that there isn't anything like this already. Adding this to netstory would make this a complete solution for me. Unfortunately, I do not have the skills to do it. Would anyone like to help out?I would pay/donate for this.

Re: Netstory
Just installed, to take care of a new 3G connection that will fine me over 300 Mb of monthly transfer ... and, I couldn't say that it works :(
First is first, it counts data, and only 3G data (not wifi data). BUT, just one web page of data transfer, and 26 Mb downloaded, 746 kB uploaded?? I just though it might be some hidden app downloading or updating, but I repeated the operation and it is not the case. I have even cleared the data counter (through settings), connected again to 3G, just one (another) web page, and the same, web pages of >20 Mb. So, I am totally sure that this data is irreal. Any one more like me? (PR1.3) Cheers EDIT: I'm using overclocked kernel. EDIT2: home data counter confirms this, 0,17 Mb sent, 1,14 Mb received |

Re: Netstory
Great program.
Would love a wlan option. |
Re: Netstory
Nicely designed.
A couple of questions: What exactly does "Refresh tables" do? It seems to add an arbitrary number to all the fields, which doesn't make sense. What does "max rows" mean? And how do you get it to stick? It always comes up as 100. I too have been surprised at the size of "uploads"; for website viewing, they're about 1/10 the size of the downloads, can that be right? |
