[Announcement] Othello game for Maemo 5
 
Hi!
I have written qthello - othello (reversi) for maemo 5. You can find it in extras-devel repository or on garage project: http://garage.maemo.org/projects/qthello

First impressions:

Looks great and even with a small size download!
Medium play is still a bit easy....
No sound is a bad thing...

Works fast and great on my end...
This can get only better

Issues were not due to the app....
Something messed up due the overclock on 1 Ghz.
The app crashed on download..

Could the layout be bigger?
I would like to see the board bigger, and maybe add color backgrounds?

hmmmm......can we try the old school Gameboy Othelo Game sounds?

hay, just thought id say, i downloaded this yesterday, have been playing peqersi, but found it to easy i could predict the AI'S next move, played qthello loads last night and am loving it, a lot better feel to peqersi (please dont think im bashing peqersi as it is a good game)
the AI is good, like the extra levels the difficulty levels are just right imho, not to fussed about sounds as normally play games liek this in silent mode, thanks for the game, good work :D

1. Do you want bigger layout? But it occupied all available space. Or you mean that game field should scrolling?
2. May be themes support for background and chips will nice feature.

In currently developed version I have added animation for flipping chips. I think sound effects for this animation will be nice.

Hi Guys,

Quick question.

On the last update did the Impossible level get broken ?

It just seems that Extremely Hard is more of challenge than the Impossible ( which was a worthy opponent ).

Hmm... Very strange. In all levels, except Impossible, AI may make mistake - don't select best move. In next version I'll make small changes in this logic.

Yesterday I released new version of qthello. Here is changelog:
* Added network mode support (peer-2-peer)
* Added animation of flipping chips
* Added localization support. Added Ukrainian and Russian localization
* Optifying

The new version does seem to take quite a while to start up, not timed it but seems to be about a minute or more.

It has also crashed, but I'll keep an eye on it and report what happens.

hay, the latest update of the game it takes an age to load!! and also iv have not been able to complete a game as kit crash's after about a minute!

if you explain how i can make some sort of log file for you if possible?

AH before you do, I have worked out how I made it crash.

I was waiting for the Expert to take its turn, but I was thinking about where it was going to go and where I was going after that.

But I accidentally touched where it was going to go and it then placed its piece their, so I took my turn and straight away clicked a valid move for the Expert and it put its piece, I went again and left the Expert to take its move and after about a minute the app crashed and disappeared.

I hope this information helps.

I am a big fan of othello/reversi and have just discovered and installed qtHello. Definitely worth it!! thanks for a great game!
1 request: is it possible to add a counter showing stats such as games won, lost, drawn?
1 observation: the text on the right side of the screen encroaches on the far right column of squares and as a result, you need to 'tap, tap, tap, tap' a square a few times for it to register that you want to place a token there.
Other than that...it is a great application! thanks for the effort!

Hi!!
I have released new version of Qthello. In this version:
1. start new game after changing game mode (for example: human vs human => human vs comp)
2. Options for animation speed
3. Options for saving mode on exit

hi
i have just updated to the latest version with an undo botton added in it (makes easy to win the game now)!!

there is some problem in new version i think.i was playing qthello today human vs computer with medium difficulty(mine was black) and when the game was about to finish , it was my turn.but there was no place for me go ahead(in older version there was a massege pop saying "black can not move white's turn" in the situation) but in newer one there was no massege and the game is stoped here!! has anyone found same thing???

Thanks for this great program! I had it installed for a long time and it worked well, though I eventually uninstalled it since I could easily beat it no matter the AI level.
I'm not too familiar with the way algorithms are obtained (can you find them somewhere or do you write them by yourself), so unless it's really difficult, I'd be interested in seeing a more challenging version of this :)

I proud to announce version 1.1 of Othello!!
I have added Undo command for playing against computer (and fix stupid bug) :)
